  1. There's a place in Soi Rambutree in Banglampoo called DEEP. It's not been open for long but it really pumps on a Friday and Saturday night. If you are staying in the Khao San area, you will be able to find it easy enough.

Full of young Thai's. Good music. You will see very few westerners in there despite the fact that it is only a stones throw from Khao San Rd.

  2. Have you considered the option of moving your family to somewhere safer?

Remove yourself from the danger you find yourself in. Sure, may be a big thing to do but it will certainly give you peace of mind in knowing tht your family is safe and under no threat.

  3. Those little pills you get from the bus stations seem to work a treat. They are in clear plastic with brown writing and are called dimenhydrinate.

Take two of those babies and she'll be rocking like a baby.

  4. I work in tourism and have just had one of my clients go to Bumrungrad. She had pain in her chest when exhaling and swallowing. I suspected that she had a cracked rib, but no.

She is taking doxycycline and manages to take them without much water. One of the tablets has lodged in her throat near her aesophagus (sorry for the spelling) and has created an ulcer in the throat.

If and when you DO take any medication, make sure you take it with plenty of water.

And I've had malaria. 4 times now. Not nice. Take the medication or avoid getting bitten like the plague.

  5. Hi Nat

Not too sure if this will help, but just hear Siriraj Hospital there are a lot of shops selling vitamin supplements. Can I suggest you go down there and have a look?

Some of the local brands are much cheaper than imported, but I don't know if the quality is different.

Go take a look. There are heaps of shops there.

  6. I've stayed at Wong Deuan Resort which was only just OK. The beach is great, there are plenty of places to eat, but it was only OK.

The last time I went there I stayed at Sai Kaew Resort. Lovely. Beautiful rooms, great breakfast, excellent service. Couldn't ask for more.

They are the sister resort to Ao Prao.

  7. People who stop at the top (or bottom) of the escalator.

Taxi drivers who want to charge 200Baht for a 60Baht fare.

The sales staff in the electrical department in Central Pinklau. Why do they just follow you round and round in circles?

The fact that Rambutree Road was just tarred about 3 months ago (and a nice white line down the middle of the 1 way street) and lo and behold, they dug it all up again and now it resembles a 4WD track.

And because of the above, all the street vendors have been spilling their leftovers into the dirt road and it now smells like a septic tank. Yuk.

Valentines Day (or am I just jealous?)

But, having said that, I choose to live here and love it. The above things drive me crazy at times, but at other times they are a never ending source of amusement. It is things like these that actually keep me here.

'Home' is full of order and grumpy people. I'd rather be here in Thailand with the chaos and happy people.

    Amazing Thailand? I think so.

  8. Thewet market has cheap plants. Open all week.

    Chatuchak market has cheap furniture.

If you have a weekend to spare, go up to 3 Pagodas Pass in Sangkhla Buri. Beautiful stuff up there. Sure, you need a pickup truck to bring it back, but it is worth the trip just for the sceney, even if you don't buy anything.

As an example, you can pick up solid teak outdoor settings (they look like tree trunks sort of) for about 10,000Baht (I think). Sounds expensive, but they are really lovely. Weigh a ton, but look great.

  9. Male.

    Honesty.

    Equality in most things.

    A good friend.

    Good sense of humour.

Smart (but but doesn't have to be a super brain - just enough to hold a conversation).

    Respectful.

Location has to be right, too. By saying that, my ex lived in Surat Thani and I live in Bangkok. A bit difficult to maintain that kind of long distance relationship.

    Open minded.

Think that's enough to get the ball rolling at least.

  10. It cost me about 1500Baht. At home (Australia) it is about AUD$300 or so. Good deal I reckon!

It hurt a lot, BUT the girl that did mine now uses a mild anaesthetic cream so that should help anyone who goes there in the future.

I have recommended lots of my group members have it done and they are all really happy with the results. You have irritated eyes for about 3 days or so afterwards. They gave me an antibiotic gooey ointment and that stopped me from getting any infection.

A friend of mine got her lips done, too. You get the whole lip filled in a natural shade (not just the lip liner) and it looks great. Admittedly, you DO go around looking like Melanie Griffith for a few days, but my friend is rapt in her lips now. Her daughter is a beautician back home and can't believe you can get it done here so cheap.

    Highly recommended.

  11. OK. This sounds like it is becoming a regular event. As I am too lazy to go back through all the posts, can someone tell me if any TV member is welcome, where, and what day you all meet?

I've got a few friends that may be interested in a girly night, too.

It will have to wait as I'm going to Melbourne for a few weeks to stock up on twisties and Samboy chips, but after that I reckon it would be great to meet all you girlies.

  12. Yeah, you can get it done in a number of places around town.

With regards to the permanent tattooing, I've had my eyeliner tattooed on over here and love it.

I never used to wear any make up at all at home, but after being hassled by my local beauty shop girlies, I took the plunge. Hurt like anything, but it looks great now. It was 3 days of eye irritation (but not too bad) and after that everything as fine.

  13. I was having a conversation with a friend today about why people get married. Is love the only reason? Apparently not. There are hundreds of reasons why people are together:

    Love :D

    Company :D

    Money :D

    Sex :o

are just a few of them.

So why are you with your partner? Do you know why, or are you just there? Is there a base reason that we all have in common, or do we all have completely different reasons?

    Just a thought...

  14. I wear Luang Phor Somdet on a gold chain around my neck. It was given to me by a numerologist Monk a while ago.

Several weird things have happened to me since.

Once, I was on a trip with a group of people. I had forgotten my Buddha, as I had showered prior to leaving, and had left it at home. Anyway, I was on a boat, and around 5 minutes before we were due to arrive at our destination, BOOM. We had hit a submerged tree. The boat sank. Nobody hurt.

January this year. I was on the way to the Dr in a taxi, and same thing. I had left it at home after showering. BOOM. The taxi was hit by a bus. Nobody hurt.

April this year. I was in the Sth again with a Muslim friend who was driving the boat. I told him half way to our destination that I hoped nothing bad happened that day because I had forgotten my Buddha. I was told that I was just being superstitious and of course we would be OK. He was walking over to the boat and as he arrived, there was smoke billowing out of the back of the boat. BOOM. (Well not BOOM exactly - more of a pfffft). There had been an electrical short in the boat and we could not use it for the rest of the day.

But the funniest thing is this. The Monk told me that after my birthday this year, I would have such good luck. I was going to be so happy, well etc.

I got Malaria on my birthday.

BUT. The Thai's say that I am lucky. "How can you call that lucky? I got ###### malaria on my birthday and it sucked"

    "You didn't die"

    Amazing Thailand. :o

  15. You Go, Girl!

Actually, Monkeygirl, I thought your first post was interesting, and the replies to it have been even more so.

I didn't read it as you saying that all Thai women were prostitutes, and don't know why your post was interpreted in such a way.

We are all entitled to our own opinions. And I think you have a point, too. Yes, you are lucky you are happily married. Whether this is to a Thai or farang is irrespective. And, yes, being a single farang woman in this country can be lonely. That's what Monkeygirl is getting at.

Her initial point was to say that if she was not happily married, she may find it incredibly lonely here and this is due to the fact that it APPEARS that most men come here and only have eyes for Thai girls.

But as a Farang female living here:

Do we find Farang men attractive? ###### yes.

Do we find Thai men attractive? ###### yes.

We are all attractive in our own way. It just takes time for some people to see it.
