  1. "Missions" (producing a book of all things!) and "campaigns" by stores will have little effect in the short to medium term, given that people here have little sense of community. There is a strong sense of family, and most people keep their yards clean... even going to the extent of sweeping the bare soil after their chickens have had a go. However, if there happens to be an empty block of land near by then a lot of local rubbish ends up there. As in other counties, strong laws that ban plastic usage (and are actually enforced!) are the only short term answer.

  2. His statement attributed the issues raised over party administration to the party’s novelty and that it was composed of different political factions.

The PPRP is certainly a "novelty" but the cause has nothing to do with the existence of factions... all parties have them. The problem is that the "leader" lacks leadership and management skills in all but the military sense and is too arrogant to face the truth that the coalition is likely to fail because of this.

  3. One reason the government is unlikely to scrap the lottery is that (according to the great wizard of Wiki) at least 28% of revenues (over 4bn baht) is distributed to supposed "charities, community projects and scholarships". Although I am sure that most of these will stand up to scrutiny (eg Thai Red Cross), allocation is actually discretionary and senior MPs have a say in how money is spent in their electorates or otherwise. A nice little slush fund!

  4. "...successful negotiation of fairer loan contracts..."

It looks as if the original loans still stand. If so the side-show in handing back the deeds has achieved little more than reducing the usurious interest component of the debts. If the owners couldn't pay back the loans before, what makes the government think they can service them now, Seems to me that if the loans remain unpaid the lenders can still take action in court to force sale of assets, including the land.
