A wonderful example of self-serving hypocrisy, How can a representative of a supposedly democratic economic and political bloc formally "congratulate" someone who came to power through a rigged election and constitution?

It will be interesting to see how Prayut handles issues like this when has to negotiate with greedy fellow politicians and can't order or bully them into submission.

"So what they needed to do is to have elections and manipulate the results."
If the writers of this article are in Thailand, they should consider leaving quickly before they have to face a trumped up sedition charge.

How much is 30% of the submarine or fast trains budget?

C'mon! - we're talking bribes here! - what fool is going the leave a track-record of evidence?
I don't think you would make a smart crook if you think there is going to be proof lying around.
Have you ever heard of recordings? Although very dangerous for those making and distributing it, a single recording would give a lot more credibility to the claim. I am sure that the average Thai recognizes that some bribery would have taken place, but some of the numbers here are rather hard to believe.

An interesting photograph. Many smiles (thinking of he rewards) and a few stern faces (acknowledging that the party has sold them out for 30 pieces of silver).

These are interesting claims and, if there is such a thing as a group of Thai politicians who put loyalty to their party/electorate before money, there is hope for the country yet. On the other hand, if there have been so many such offers, why is no proof offered?

I think that the word "respect" is in Mr P's vocabulary, but he believes that it applies only to how people should treat him.

Disgusting that anyone in need of emergency medical treatment here, whatever their circumstances, can't access the hospital system.

In Thai politics, isn't saying "no" interpreted as "give me more"?

JUNTA CHIEF General Prayut Chan-o-cha has warned that the current horse-trading among politicians could hurt the next government’s credibility.
I hope this is not the case, but this comment sounds like a great excuse for a further coup to ensure yet another 'credible' government.

Interesting that this article is coming to Thai Visa now. What achievements? Hastily approved infrastructure projects that allow some of his cronies to salt millions of baht overseas? Digital economy improvements that include Chinese-style monitoring and censorship/prosecution potential? Without Section 44 this guy is a lame duck!

I fully support the sentiment of this story, but surely Thai Visa should be above click-bait headlines!

Let's not be too negative because of the wildly optimistic target. Every person on the street who knows how to do CPR and use an AED is an asset to the country. Even if the final number is in the tens or hundreds of thousands, it is a worthy project... but one that, as with all such things, will probably make some in the Public Health Ministry very rich.

"Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krau-ngam said negotiations could lead to a lower compensation amount, as the court’s verdict against the Transport Ministry and the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is regarded as final."
Can't see what there is to negotiate... unless the government doesn't have enough spare cash to pay up on time!

Getting back to the article... As with tourism and road death statistics, these are the "official figures" released for public consumption. I can't help but worry that the real situation is a lot worse!

Typical "save face" attempt by the government after another ill-informed interference in agriculture markets. I seem to recall that some years ago, when there was a glut of rubber in the market, farmers were encouraged to cut down rubber trees and plant palm oil. Many poorly educated farmers would have done this without researching the market, not realizing that the majority of palm oil production comes from large scale commercial farms that have the benefit of economies of scale. What are the chances of some sort of palm oil subsidy (a-la rice, rubber, etc.) coming soon?
