  1. I'm staying at the Sofitel, around the corner.  Booked on Agoda for 2650/night.

They have a rooftop bar on the 32nd floor, great views of the city

I ordered the cheapest thing on the menu, a glass of Spanish red

Breakfast is included, and ala carte, but you can order as much as you want.  Besides this, I had smoked salmon Eggs Benedict.

  2. I’ve stayed at the Emerald Cove 20 times since it opened in 2004, last time was last month.  I’ve always had an enjoyable stay there.  Mostly Thais were there for the weekend, it emptied out on Sunday and the resort gave me a premium sea view upgrade at no cost.  Otherwise, the rooms are the same so I always book the cheapest.  They have a Happy hour at the pool bar and I really like their seafood pizza.  Huge pool and you’ll want to swim in the sea on the south side of the property to avoid the rocks. The Dewa two doors down is also very good and their pool is even larger (slightly). I stayed at the Sea View once and never went back, who wants to climb a hill to use the pool?

  3. This was a free event with great music and there were several thousand in attendance.  I spent 14 hours at this festival, the third consecutive year I have attended.  I stayed at the adjacent Centara Grand Beach Resort so I could use their beach chairs to enjoy the event.  I believe the resort is a sponsor of the festival. It would be a shame not to serve beer on the beach next year but I got mine on the resort’s private property.

Based on the TripAdvisor warning they'll now have to jack up their prices to maybe 5,000 or 10,000 THB per night.  Which will be ok because all the local supporters of censorship and using defamation laws to throw ice-water on reviewers will no doubt flock to the Seaview in support of this poor, maligned business.  Perhaps they should start a Go Fund Me campaign to make up lose revenue.

I booked the Emerald Cove resort for 1700, including their great breakfast buffet.  It’s a 5-star resort and I’ve stayed there 20 times since it opened in 2004.  Stayed at the Sea View 12 years ago and never went back.
