  1. My dual entry 60 day tourist Visa expires on April 28th due to a bit of a counting glitch on my part when left and re-entered the country on my initial visit, my flight leaves the 29th at 10am, will they give me any grief at the airport?

2 years ago I had a 2am flight that was delayed a few hours, so I overstayed a few hours then as well, they didn't fine me or anything, they just mentioned the overstay and I told them about the flight delay and lingering before heading to immigration.

    thx

  2. Thanks for the replies.

Yes I will likely tour around outside Vientiene, especially if there is something wothwhile just a couple hours away .

How about the safety factor if I rent a scooter there and head out of town? Will I be susceptable to being mugged on the road? I'm wise, observant and aware, but I don't want to entice anyone by being alone and outside a main city. Canadian gov website warns of banditry on route13 from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang.

  3. I'm bumping my topic, as I have decided to check out Laos.

My entry stamp says Feb24, so I'm assuming i must leave Thailand on that day. So I'll go to Nong Khai and take a bus/minivan across? Stay in Vienteine for 4-5 days and return. Seems like the visa fee to Laos is $43 USD, (I'm Canadian) is there anything cheaper or free?

I'm choosing Laos because I've never been there and it looks quite scenic. I was thinking of renting a scooter for the time to get around and see what there is to see.

Any comments or suggestions on my plans and local prices getting to the border and while in Laos? I have a Thai (1-2-call) sim card, what about my cell etc. can i use it there cheaply? thx

  4. As in the subject I have a dual entry visa, basically good for 2 entries of 60 days, but my holiday is 124 days.

I guess my question is could I extend my 1st entry to cover the extra days, then leave at 64 days and re-enter the country to serve out the final 60?

Otherwise as I see it my only option is to spend a few days in a neighboring country.

Whats my best cost effective option?

    I'm Canadian

The Thai embassy is in Vancouver. You can get the visa there, $80 for dual entry tourist visa.

  5. Thx Chris

I like your way of thinking

I just got the dual entry visa last week and its good for 6 months, I will arrive next week.

I did a thai visa visa run from bkk to cambodia last year for 2000 baht, a 6 hr return trip and some food on the road. Had a little trouble with the temple area at that time and had to go to an alternate crossing.

I'd almost do that same thing if they could drop me off and pick me up in a few days instead of the obligatory walk across border to the immigration window and back in 20 min.

I'll probably be near bkk at the time, Burma looks about the same distance... whats in Burma for less than a week?

  7. It never ceases to amaze me how so many of the people posting here do so for "Thai bashing" purposes. If you have nothing constructive or nice to say, keep your traps shut.

Sure helmets are a common sense thing to foreigners and educated peoples, but Thailand is not an industrial age leader in many ways.

The religion of Thais may play a big part in the "live in the now" approach to their view of the world.

@zakk9 Personally I think the Thai people are very hard working. I also think Thai people enjoy a lot of freedom from regulation up the yin yang, that binds the rest of the world in its so called freedoms.

  8. Can I ask for a 90 day visa here in Canada (is there such a thing?), and then pop out of Thailand once at 90 days, returning for the remaining 30 days till my departure?

    There is no such Visa.

You need Tourist Visas. 60 days each entry and can be extended at Immigration for another 30 days.

When expired you can go to a Thai Consulate and get another one.

Ahh OK, so a dual entry can provide me with 2x60 day visits, enough to cover my 4 month stay if I do a trip to another country at the 60 day mark.

  9. Hopefully and easily answered question..

I'm Canadian, planning on staying 4 months in Thailand come the new year,

Planning on getting a double or triple entry visa.

Can I ask for a 90 day visa here in Canada (is there such a thing?), and then pop out of Thailand once at 90 days, returning for the remaining 30 days till my departure?

Or will I only get a 60 day visa, and pop out once to say Malaysia and ask for another 60 day visa?

    thx and regards

  10. I was in Chiang Mai during Songkran and saw a young elephant being paraded around with the mahout and helper selling bags of nuts, it was really sad.

The young pachyderm was bleating a sad cry and it was heart wrenching to hear and watch. Many tourists with a conscience were upset at the exploitation and knowing the social family life of an elephant made it even more heartbreaking.
