Hi,
I'm planning on renting a car for a few days while I'm on my trip. What are the best options insurance-wise?
Are all the renting operators' extended insurance policies the same?
Should I insure the vehicle with a third party company?
What do I need to look out for?
I'm a careful driver, but I wish to eliminate the head ache of dealing with damages to the vehicle or to a third party.

Hi,
Are you still looking?
Can you provide more details?

My main problem is time. I'm not willing to gamble on my current workplace.Get yourself a double entry tourist Visa. That will give you 6 months. Before you come, map out your plan of attack; businesses you would want to work for, jobs you would consider, minimum salary (and if this is indeed about a girl...multiply that minimum salary by 3).Once you have your plan together, get over here and hit the bricks. No screwing around...I would not even tell the girl you are here. All business, no playtime. You have 6 months to secure a position. If you cannot do that in 6 months then you can conclude it is not meant to be.
That is the best advice I can give.
If you speak English well you can get work (not legal unless you do a TOEIC exam) even if you are a non native English speaker. This can tide you over but if you don't have savings enough to last for 6 months than I would scrap the whole plan until you do have 6 months of 'burn' cash on hand. Live cheaply while job searching...no booze, no girls, no western food.
If you cannot do this...your chances are slim to none.
With all due respect, even if you were offered a good job by a Thai banking concern...you could be terminated a month later for any reason, yes you could head down to the Labor Ministry and file a complaint...but my point being....any relocation will be gambling on your current job. if you are not willing to take the risk...you should not think of living and working overseas.....
Oh, about that I'm sure. I'm not one of those employees who get fired. I won't elaborate here. The only reason I can see for firing me is the company going bankrupt.
For me, the chances I'll get fired are equal to those in my home country.
Work in Thailand for a while and you will see the folly of that thinking. I have seen people who were well thought of on Monday...gone on Thursday morning because they looked at someone the wrong way (or argued a valid point)....Thai culture demands you respect their way (which you will not always be aware of) and sometimes too late to correct your error. I wish you well but easier to be fired here for unexplained reasons than in the West (or Israel).
I got your point
I'll remember your warning

I am present in Bangkok every few months and I already am a member of Internations.
I guess I'll have to do some more walking next time .

I never said I'm an investment banker. I have a degree in economics, more than 4 years of experience. I can read and write basic Thai. Speaking is more hard for me."My profession is instittutional investments/ banking"
Any degree? How many years of work experience? How good is your Thai?
in general, investment bankers who want to work abroad have a network of fellow bankers and a name / reputation and get hired without having to send out a resumee.. so better work on your experience and qualifications and build up your professional network.
plenty of people out there who claim to be investment bankers after having sold more than 10 shares...
You are right about the network, but unfortunately, I don't want to put that word out in public yet, as I'm still working, and it's a small market here.

for a job in banking you will need to work for the company in another country and get posted to Thailand, I knew some of the staff in the Thai Military Bank that were foreigners, all started in the home countries then got the chance to go to Thailand.
This might take years. I'm 33. I want to get there while I'm young. Also, it is not so doable in Israel, as there are not many banks here with a branch in Thailand.
The job doesn't have to be in a bank or in a big investment firm. Not even with a high payment.
Any other ideas besides teaching?
Thanks guys for sharing your ideas with me

I'm an Israeli.
I haven't had it checked. You know someone good?

be a slacker.
seriously, maybe show up. knock knock, handshake , some glue can work too these days. just try.
I've been trying this for almost two years now. I visit there quit a lot.
As a degree qualified "professional" in institutional investments/ banking I suggest you approach the major Thai banks.
I've been sending them my resume, but to no avail . I believe that my non-local address maybe a deterrant.

Hi,
Besides sending resume from abroad (and posting an ad here on the forum), do you have any other ideas?
My profession is instittutional investments/ banking.

I sat on the bar. I saw the bottle. But it was the bar at the back in the corner. You can't really see a live band performing from there.

Prices are the usual for street food.
Who goes to public toilets in these places?
I don't know what kind of wine you got, but I once ordered a glass of Black Label for Baht 200 and I got like DOUBLE of the regular quantity.
-
I came a cross a post, from one of the vandores there, on Facebook, saying they just got a one week in advance notification.
What a shame . I really like the place. The food is very good there and lots of varieties of it.
Where will I go to eat when I'm there? I really don't want to get into the shopping mall across the street

Hi,
I have more than four years of experience in the global stock markets, derivatives, trade settlements and financial systems.
I'm dedicated and a serious person. I know Hebrew, English and basic Thai.
The job can be anywhere in Thailand. I'm not looking for sales.
Cheers.

In case some are wondering about the connection between palm civets and coffee, read this:

This is sad.

Is it possible that I booked a room on Booking.com, for $50, and the hotel will charge me only $37?
I got the reservation confirmation from the hotel and the room is the same one as I originaly booked.
-
Thanks Tomtom, but staying outside the hotels area is out of question, as I have to attend a conference there.
I book a room at Tungapuri, as Gregk suggested. It's not cheap though, $50.

Hi,
I think currently there's only a bus service connecting the two.
Has anyone had an experience with it? Can anyone advise regarding the timings, comfort etc. ?
Cheers
