  1. In my opinion you don't buy a vehicle with Crashing in mind. As for the data provided by IMHO, that's good but there is No Mention about which car is better in the road. Having done over 160,000 Kl in my 3.2lt Pajero Sports GT and recently drove a MU-X for about 500 Kl, I can tell you for sure the most surefooted vehicle on the Highway is by far the Pajero. It's Independent rear Suspension is way superior to the Live Axel MU-X. This giver far better cornering especially at high speeds with no tendancy to bounce across the road on small bumps, as was the case with the MU-X. The ride comfort, especially in the back seat is also superior to the MU-X. All round the Pajero is a much nicer car to drive I feel. I have been a Professional Driver for 45 years in everything from Race cars, Interstate Transport and Limosine driver for the like of Australian Prime Ministers, Movie and Rock stars like Elton John Etc. I think I know what I am talking about when it comes to testing Vehicles. All the best with your decision on which to purchase.

    The PJS sold here has live axle too...

    Tried one and wasn't impressed. suspension setup is too soft, too much body roll.

    On top of that steering wheel return is non existent. sales guy sold this as a "feature".

    More probable that steering has been dampened to avoid front wheels shaking.

  2. I suppose an important part of modern design and engineering revolves around the effectiveness of crumple zones, and the attendant costs of repair. I think IMHO's point is good, in that it might appear Honda's engineers have designed theirs to be cheaper and faster to repair than the Chevy.

    i drive both on a regular basis and seeing what is missing behind the bumper of the CR-V has me a little preoccupied...

    please note that in the CR-V there's nothing between the bumper and the chassis, while on the Captiva, there is a metal bumper...

    talking about the XV in particular, the owners are pi$$ed, especially the ones that bought the first batch a few years back (about 7000 cars)

  5. Yep....probably not importing then....LR had the highest dissatisfaction/warranty repair rate rating at 400+ next highest was 190s at one time.......don't know if better now or not but looks like there are a few new around CM or I keep seeing the same one...nice looking car.....

    Don't agree. Owned a 90 (would then be called defender). Been member of the Italian forum that prepared trips to Africa. until now and haven't heard anything out of the ordinary.

    PS: about defenders, anything in Thailand that is not officially imported from land rover, is just an older model (88, series II, series III) to which they have changed the front panels.

  6. I looked one over at the Honda dealer the other day while getting book service on my car. I was a bit surprised at its short stature, and sloping rear, and sort of closer to the Juke look. I can understand the comment by Rd Rokit that it looks like a hatchback. Many people like this type of crossover look (and looks like the new Mazda shares that look) rather than the taller SUV look, though I didn't think it looked like a million baht vehicle. Interior was nice.

    Yep, most of these small crossovers do just look like jacked up hatchbacks. It's not just the HR-V, the Mini Countryman, Volvo V40 Cross Country, and Benz GLA are all easily mistaken at first sight for hatchbacks too. In the HR-V's segment, the Ecosport and Juke look like more purposeful baby SUV's.

    Park a HR-V EL next to a Pajero Sport GLS (same price) and see if you still want to call it an SUV then tongue.png

    Thought PJS, Fortuner and the likes based on pickup frames (rear rigid axle to lower taxes) are called PPV (Passenger Pickup Vehicle) ? tongue.png

    SUVs are CRV,Captiva, X-Trail, CX-5, that do not simply have jacked up suspension.

  7. I know Mitsu own Isuzu now, but despite the changes in ownership, a bit of Ford still bolts on a Mazda, and a lump of Isuzu bolts on a Chevy Truck. I don't mind if they sell a Vehicle as a Clonker G.T. as long as i'm not conned .Chev selling Daewoo as a Chev years back Stinks. Anyway , watch this space for my Clarkson Grumpy assessment next week.Wont be as hard as Him, i love Yank Cars, warts All.biggrin.pngcoffee1.gif

    Isuzu was Honda's trucks division.....It is not anymore?...or...Honda bought Mitsubishi? The first Captiva in the US was a Nissan model....and had very good reports....The Captiva is one of the cheapest SUV you can get in the US..but here is one of the most expensive of its type...and with higher devaluation.

    Why do not buy the best Japanese SUV for the right price? SUBARU.

    just took ownership of one. great so far. good value for money.

  8. I bought a 2013 Chevy Captiva 2.4l Petrol, AT 2wd. Brand New.

    The door handle came off after six months.

    Drive belt tensioner bearing and pulley went out after 12 months.

    The "infotainment" system failed to turn on a few times.

    The Bluetooth playback quality from device to stereo was very poor.

    It is not a Chevrolet. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

    I bought it because it was the cheapest Seven Seater, had 8 airbags and the wife wanted it.

    Sold it after 18 months and lost a TON of money. 995,000 New and Sold it for 572,000 (This was in a neighboring ASEAN country but I put prices in THB for you folks)

    Heard similar complaints from other owners...

  9. Going to get killed on resale and aftermarket parts. Hopefully you live close to a dealership as there are so few. Yes, I agree diesel is far more desirable...

    as for the resale value, not an issue. will keep it for a looong time.

    aftermarket parts? don't need any junk to weigh it down.

    dealership is near. warranty is 5 years. after that service will be done by yours truly.

  10. Took ownership on Christmas day, love it too!

    Drove crvs and fortuners frequently on long trips (company cars). My other car is a captiva diesel. The subaru beats them all in handling. Power? Don't know yet. Still 500 km on the clock and running it in. Surely won't beat diesel power but already have the captiva if craving for it. Interior is bland and all the effort of subaru has been on the drivetrain. Chose it over the newer look (and 2wd) of the cx5 2.0. Also quite happy of the 10% discount and the 4 years 0%.

  11. bought used, had the car for a year now. upgraded the seats to Italian leather.

    as this is a 2007 model, I had to do some work on it to keep it in shape, namely: bushes, wheel bearings, belt tensioner, gear cable. All the rest are consumables.

    prices for parts are reasonable and there are several sources to choose from.

    diesel engine is still going strong. ride and handling are great.

    only thing that is bugging me is that the disk brakes keep warping (probably skimmed them too much).

    unlike the xtrail, the 3rd row of seats can accomodate adults too tongue.png .

    only drawback is the price i guess...better buy second hand whistling.gif .

  12. bkkjames, thanks for the comments. The smaller size of the XV suits my needs much better - also I'm strapped for cash right now and Subaru has a 0% financing offer on the XV just now.

    nice, same with the forester. When I looked at the XV when it first came out, no such 0% was on offer so with 25% down it worked out to 23,000 per month over 48 which is more than I could afford.

    picked one up at the Motor Show. 10% discount, 4 years at 0% and a few extras. picking it up in 2 days.
