  1. This would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic. Love to hear the PM explain this is was this announced by some rogue cop? Unbelievable.

So I would guess that your thinking is the young adults or children are better off roaming the streets late at night. Force the parents to get off there dead ars and pick up there kid from the police station and explain why there 15 year old was on the street at 1:00 AM. Your right it is pathetic only because some people think this is all laughable.

  2. Just as they announce that they are going to cut crime by 20% within the next six months. They go and make more pathetic laws that cannot be possibley be enforced without a major draw on already lacking police manpower. This law in itself will raise criminal acts in Bangkok 10 fold with the ammount of youths out after 10pm. I mean.... Please! :bah:

Give them a break, they are trying to do something, anything to get youth crime down to a minimum. Many countries around the world have somewhat similar curfews. To do nothing is a crime. Do you know where your children will be after 10:00 PM? If you have any.

  3. Can anyone explain the unusual weather paterns in the world today? Extreme cold in some areas, extreme heat in others, islands in Thailand & other countries slowly going under water, rivers overflowing there banks, I don't believe you can outright dismiss climate change. We, as in the world, are abusing nature and as the old sayng goes, NEVER FOOL WITH MOTHER NATURE, you'll lose every time.

  4. ...and Thailand keen to bringing Tiger Woods to Thailand after he refused a Thai citizenship.

He's an American citizen, why would he give that up. As I understand it, you cannot have dual citizenship in Thailand.

I could be wrong. If that's the case, would you suggest he drop his American citizenship?

  5. What a load of cynical whiners!

The Immigration officers looked really nice in their blue polo shirts the other day. A couple were having a great time taking pictures of a cute foreign kid with their cellphones. I find if I smile at them when I give/take my passport, they invariably smile back. The security check is as painless as any other airport and if you smile at the operators, their unnecessary reminder about your laptop, belt, cellphone, etc., is less of a grind.

I have been going through this airport on average 3 times/week for the last 4 months and all I can say that compared to the laughable LCCT and it's co-location with KLIA in the MIDDLE OF FRIGGING NOWHERE, Suvarnabhuni is a dream to transit through. I guess the free Wi-fi there compensates for the sh!t airconditioning? Surf AND sweat eh?

You want a long walk? Try the domestic gates at KLIA.

You want breakfast before the red-eye? You better like Burger King at KLIA.

You want to wait an age at Immigration? Come through KLIA; only ever 5 desks open tops.

You want to wait forever for a 'limo'? Yes, you can at KLIA.

The only redeeming thing about it is the Ekspres; 28 minutes to/from downtown.

Now I arrive at BKK and it's a nice stroll from the gates, 15 minutes tops at passport control, the bags are already on the carousel and the walk down to the meeting point... all 180m of it (ridiculous long eh?). Then about 20 minutes to get downtown or an hour fifteen to get to Pattaya; with options for doing it cheap or expensive. Up to you.

And who in their right mind buys ANYTHING at ANY airport <deleted>??!! They are all overpriced. It's just that Changi has more variety to lighten your wallet. Sheesh!

BKK airport is a pleasure to go through, especially when on the inbound route, I am going home to my loved ones. Maybe some of the grumpy old buggers here that vilify the airport because it is their gateway to/from their shattered dreams, terminal disillusionment and the twilight years of their discontent.

My friend, that says it all. Personally I think it's wayyyy past there bed time.

  6. I think it is a nice airport. I fly every two weeks to Africa and the Middle East. Nothing to complain about, but I'm not a bitcher.

    or discerning, apparently.

It's seems very obvious that all these complainers would rather keep the statis quo. Do nothing. Complain, complain, complain.

  7. What a load of **** i know a english lad who overstayed 3 years and who left thailand last week.He went to immigration paid his 20 thousand baht and then went to the airport and left,he was not detained and arrived back in thailand yesterday. And thai visa is sending this crap to my email.Editors note my ass.

it's dickheads like him who make these regulations need to be inforced

May be he didn't have a choice!

What if he has family in Thailand but doesn't have 400k on a bank account?

I thought it was 800,000 Baht.

  8. The only blessing is that it MAY shut the Global Warming fanatics up for a bit - though I'm sure that they will soon find some other dire phenomena that will require vast amounts of taxpayers money to "research" into! :whistling:

A better and more accurate description would be Global Change. As for "fanatics", I suggest people should accept it because it's reallity.

  9. By all means, let's drive out the cheap hotels and guesthouses so that customers are forced into the more expensive places. Why let rooms be rented for 500 baht per night when 2,000 should be possible? This will certainly increase the profits of the few, thereby benefiting tourism in Thailand, and indeed, throughout SE Asia over the long run.

    are you being sarcastic?

without the cheaper rooms the money that is payed just lines the pockets of the already ample rich people of this country. at least with the cheaper less nice venues, some local people actually make some cash. and it is up to the tourist who wants to stay to look at the place and decide for themselves.

Do you really believe that a tourist who just got off the plane at 11PM tired and hungry, is capable of assessing the safety of the accommodations. Get real.

  10. Why all the negative comments? Aren't you also the same people that scream about the lack of safety standards? Hello??? Earth to vapid heads.

The registered and licensed hotels have most likely invested in following some form of fire and life safety code. If it's a major brand, alot of money was spent on the installation of function smoke & heat detectors, fire alarms and function firehoses. Do you think any of the illegal operators care anything about keeping fire exits unlocked or a smoke detector? If you want the staff to wash their hands after taking a crap then you need to provide soap in the staff bathrooms. Do you think that the illegal hotels do that? They do at Sheraton, Centera etc. The illegal hotels are not paying taxes and are taking advantage of municipal services whereas the licensed establishments are paying an inflated rate which is subsidizing the illegal operators.

Thai Hotels Association is a private orginization established in 1963 to promote tourism and profit for it's members.

They are merely sayiny that if you are not a member of their PRIVATE ASSOCIATION then you must be breaking the law.

Maybe it is true (or not) that members of the Thai Hotel Association have higher standards but it does not automatically guarantee that hotels not under their regime are ALL substandard.

This is purely and simplely a case of a Private Association trying to justify their member fees by making broad and misleading accusations.

Why would you agree to allow even a handful of substandard illigal houses to exsist. One fire killing X number of people because they weren't equipped with smoke detectors or fire alarms is NOT ACCEPTABLE..

  11. Matichon web said police chief Wichien has been told of theory of a bombmaker's error causing "premature" explosion. /via @tulsathit

One can only hope the theory becomes fact.

One has to be unwell or abnormal to make a comment like that.

"One can only hope the theory becomes fact."

The problems are big enough already without people seemingly enjoying their expansion.

He's enjoying the fact that if a bomb did go off, better it should happen to the bomb maker. I don't think he is "unwell or abnormal". Unfortunately, good lives were lost in the process.

  12. Your comment suggests/assumes you're talking about going into a local Thai bank where you also have a local account.

Assuming you're going into a branch that's in the same general area/province as the branch of the same bank where your account was originally opened, there should be no fee for ATM or counter withdrawals.

If you're going into a branch in a different area/province from where your account was originally opened (say your account is based at a BKK Bank branch in Bangkok but you're using a BKK Bank branch in Chiang Mai), then there may be a small fee for ATM withdrawals, depending on the bank and how many similar ATM withdrawals you've made that month.

Same-bank ATM withdrawals across provinces will be subject to fee of no more than 15 baht per transaction from the current ten baht per 10,000 baht withdrawn.

I'm not sure how the Thai banks handle different province counter withdrawals.

    HELP

QUESTION. Is there any fee for going to the counter and removing funds that you have in that bank, savings or checking account, rather then going to the ATM?

    Thanks, much appreciated.
