The child can have dual citizenship. There are obvious benefits in the Brit citizenship. Register the birth with both the Brits and the Thai Authorities asap. You can then apply for both passports whenever. You shouldn't have any probs Good Luck

The child is considered illegitimate with similar connotations as you'd find in the west. A legal recognized marriage needs to be done at a District Registrar's Office. Thailand does not recognize de facto relationships or Temple weddings. Your Thai family will know where to go to do the formalities

Thai law does not recognise defacto relationships at all. Thus you need to rely on the retirement visa, or marry the lady. It may be that you could find a sympathetic immigration officer prepared to exercise discretion in requirements because you are certainly doing ' the right thing ' by the lady. Remember that the Department wants a letter from your bank stating that you have the reqired amount in the account as at the date of application, not average balances over the past 12 months. A little creativeness might see you over the hurdle long enough to get the letter from the banker.

Assuming that you are in Thailand on a non=immigrant O visa, at your age you can apply for a one year extension of stay at the Phuket Immigration office. You need a letter from your Thai bank evidencing that you have at least 800,000 Th baht in the account. At your age and based on the information you provided here, you should be eligible for a one year extension. You need to follow the same procedure each year for 3 years. After 3 years you may be able to apply for a residency permit. When they give you that one year extension you will need re-entry permits if you intend to travel outside Thailand. A multiple re-entry permit is also obtainable from Immigration for 1000 baht. The present cost for the one year extension is 500 baht. It is rumoured that cost increases are likely in the future. That you own a condo in Thailand is likely to indicate that you have commitment to the country, so take documents with you indicating owner- ship.

In my experience it is easier to get a Non Immigrant Visa in the USA and apply for the extension in Thailand. It can be done outside Thailand but compliance with the requirements is too difficult. eg having a bank account IN Thailand. Get a multiple entry Non Imm 'O' visa before entry

It is illegal to send via an agent. It is however, commonly done but you must be aware of the risks which include being black banned from entry to Thailand.
