Wow......the Big Kahuna is really putting it all together and doing an excellent job. I was there today for lunch and it was packed! Why? The food is good, at least what I have tried thus far. I just had the best and biggest pulled pork sandwich that I have ever had. You are not going to believe how good it is. It comes with coleslaw on it, and one side (either beans, potato salad, fries, onion rings, or coleslaw). And a great pickle too, not to mention one drink (e.g. coffee). I can tell you the pizza is top shelf, and so are the hamburgers. I love the Hawaiian music in the background and comfortable seats. The staff is great. Check it out! No, I have nothing to do with the place. I am just happy Jomtien has a very good place to eat.

If so, that's retarded
Do you realize it has only been open for a few days? They need time to get everything right. I can say, for a fact, the existing staff are professional in the way they interact with customers, and the food is really good (excellent breakfast items and the pizza and burgers are, IMHO, the best in town).

Tried the "burger." Amazing........the burgers are very, very good......the best I have had in all of Thailand (all of Asia). The meat tasted like US grade beef and it was not ground to a past like most places do; rather, it was ground corsely and properly cooked. U are in for a treat!

Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile appYes, at least some items are "Hawaiian." The breakfast menu includes n omelette made with spam (national Hawaiian food item) and pineapple, among other stuff....several other breakfast items. The pizza is very good. Nice staff too. Give the place a try.

The once beautiful and environmentally functional old-growth forest is missing.

John, Sean and JC were the ownership team of P&R. U are thinking of Sean. JC is the new owner of the Big Kahuna. My guess is that BK will serve very good stuff. Looking forward to its grand opening.

Thanks. I missed it.
From Facebook: Hawaiian inspired dishes, Thai food, hearty breakfast, American sandwiches and a fun clean environment.

I hope they serve excellent breakfast items w/ real coffee. Right now I have no idea what will be on the menu.

No doubt that if you are a Brit it is ok (given the reviews), but the pictures really turned me off. I am used to wonderful American-Chinese food, which is non-existent in Thailand.

Never head of China Palace and unable to find it on the internet. Is it American-Chinese or the usual crap they serve? Where is it? Please post the menu. Thanks.

Of course this was mentioned here, but my limited attention-span will not allow me to read thru over 3000 posts.
Question: Restaurant serving (true) Mexican Food? Where?
Waitresses wearing large Sombrero's and Marriatschees playing in the background would be a nice touch, but not mandatory.
- Will travel for good Mexican Food, as long as within Pattaya city-limits.
Thx & cheers.None, "true" or "Tex-Mex." You can go to Mike's Mexican restaurant between Jomtien and Pattaya (maybe soi 5?....look it up). He makes bland food, but the chile rellenos are just OK (not made with real pablano). He also makes the best margaritas in town. In Thailand, there is a place in Bangkok called "La Monita" that is a couple of steps better. Sadly, we have reached a point where Taco Bell is actually desired by a lot of expats, including me.

Just an observation: I ate at Texas Chicken at the large service station (hwy 7 motorway) between Bangkok and Pattaya and it was great. The chicken is wonderful and the biscuits are fantastic. Move over KFC.........

Time for another trip up to the top of that big tower in Jomtien. Starting from south to north, here's a partial list of what wasn't there at your trip 10 years ago. I'll just hit the high-rises or we'd be here all day. Aeras, Reflection, Lumpini Park Beach, Lumpini Seaview, La Santir, Cetus, View Talay 8, AD Grand Jomtien, Dusit Grand, Supalai Mare, Unicca, The Trust South Pattaya, View Talay 7, Grand Caribbean, Treetops, Axis, Vision, Amari Residence, The Cliff, One Tower, Cosy Beach View, The View, Peak Tower, Southpoint, Unixx, Hilton, The Base, LK President Hotel, Centric Sea, Siam@Siam Hotel, Holiday Inn, Mitt Hotel, Grand Pallazo Hotel, Pattaya Posh, The Trust North Pattaya, Lumpini Sukumvit, Brighton Grand Hotel, Northpoint, The Cove, Wong Amat Tower, Baan Plai Haad, TW Wongamat, The Palm, Lumpini Naklua, AD Condo, Riviera Wongamat, and Zire. A to Z. Pretty impressive in a fairly short time span--and many, many more low-rises than high-rises have also been built.
Nothing impressive about it as it is killing Pattaya-Jomtien. But, to others (those with the cancer cell all-growth-is-positive mindset), it is fantastic and evidence of progress :)

"Pattaya booming!" Spoken just like a person with the mentality of a cancer cell. In truth, all growth is not good; unrestrained growth often kills what it impacts.

Almost totally delusional.........the only thing he got right was that some people will escape the development and move to other places. They have already destroyed what was good about the place. More of the same will not fix the main underlying problems: poor infrastructure, extremely poor city planning, overpopulation, traffic problems, extreme water pollution, deliberate destruction of both beaches (Pattaya and Jomtien), extreme corruption, unbelievable noise pollution (and they refuse to do anything about it), no zoning (or the laws are not enforced), among others.

Ate just last night at the recently relocated "Wok-N-Rok," now located in Jomtien. While the food is exactly what you would come to expect from Western-style Chinese food, my friend got a little stab of 30 baht when he asked for some more ice for his drink. I'll only do takeout from now on and only when I just HAVE to have some.
Hamburger? Sizzlers has a WONDERFUL Swiss cheeseburger with mushrooms which includes the salad bar.
Well.......maybe I will try Sizzler for a hamburger. Thanks. I saw the WokNRok place but decided not to even try it because it appeared to be British-Chinese food, the worst on the planet. I am virtually certain that 99.9% of us have no desire to eat what passes here as "authentic" Chinese food (e.g. pig ears). Lots of people would probably love American-Chinese food, which you cannot find in Thailand. By the way, I have lived in the USA and spent several years in China, both north and south. Most of the authentic Chinese dishes that 99.9% of us would like are not on the menu over here. It is really strange, IMHO. Maybe one day it will happen! And on that day, maybe some excellent Mexican-American food will show up (if not, I would welcome Taco Bell as even it is better than most of the overpriced, tasteless crap that is being served over here.......with one exception: La Monita in Bangkok). I agree with another poster who stated that Bangkok is an international food destination. The restaurant scene is growing in Pattaya-Jomtien and becoming a bit more diverse, but most of the food sucks and, as I said, the lack of any fundamental understanding of hygiene among Thais is a big negative........a dark cloud that is having a negative impact on the food scene. I know farang owners who are trying to establish hygienic practices at their establishments, but often cannot make Thais understand what the rest of the world knows already about food preparation, hygiene and disease.

My first year living here, I tried eating primarily a Thai diet. After my Thai GF and I split (we're still friends, she's STILL hitting me up for money!), I stopped eating Thai food. Lo and behold, I started having solid bowel movements again.
Thais have no understanding of hygiene, and that means this place will never be known for its food. I have had food poisoning too many times to count in Pattaya-Jomtien. And, IMHO, we still do not have decent Chinese food (at least what most Westerners enjoy), a decent hamburger, and not even one decent Mexican food place.

And the bars on Soi Whitehouse in Jomtien.
And the bars on Soi 7 and Soi 5 Jomtien. This residential area has some of the worst noise pollution in Thailand, coming from an increasing number of bars. The police are doing vrtually nothing to stop the problem and do not seem to even care. I wonder if the military would stop the noise.

So depressing to see THEM continue to destroy Jomtien Beach. It was once beautiful. Pattaya Beach is also horrible now.........same renovation plan. How in the world could they decide to embrace the absolute worst renovation plan imaginable! Both plans see to have been designed to promote skin cancer and beach erosion, and to make the areas as uncomfortable for tourists as possible.

Ate at Hawker Chan 10 minutes ago. The place is large and 1/2 was sort of ropped off. There were about 7 other people there (some speaking Thai and others Chinese). I tried the ribs w/ some noodle item. The taste was good but almost zero meat on the ribs (will never order that again). And the noodles were in a clump, but you have to separate them and drench them in the nice sauces.....tasty in my opinion. Next time, I plan on ordering the pork w/ noodle. One poster said the chicken was undercooked, but one poster said the chicken was great.........so, maybe I will try both. The prices are inexpensive and the food does appear to be clean. It is certainly worth trying.

That is certainly a possibility that suspiciously exists.
It really is totally crazy. The area in the pics that were posted earlier used to have 4-5 rows of beautiful old-growth shade trees. Now you can't walk down there any more because of the intense sunshine and heat. It does seem as though somebody wants to ruin both beachfronts--in Pattaya and Jomtien--and they have. But we all know what happened: $$$$$$ with no thought about the consequences, and certainly no consideration as to whether farangs would like it (which 99% do not).

Hello.........ACME Chimpanzee Development International speaking. You need me to draw up a plan?
Finished in record time. It is brilliant!
Stop complaining about the cracks. There are no cracks. We did a great job!

They made a huge mistake destroying all of the old-growth trees in parts of the beachfront. The trees helped keep the soil/sand in place (helped prevent the soil/sand slide that is taking place). That is one problem. The other problem is the horrible construction, which is not just in the area in the pictures, but all along both Pattaya and Jomtien beaches. What a mess they have created........so ugly compared to what it was....so people unfriendly. Now it really does look like a freeway. I really miss the shade trees! It is so hot now to try to walk/ exercise along the beachfront area. The entire project has been a DISASTER.

It is totally insane and unacceptable! What could the police/city be thinking to allow them to bring that horrific carnival Karaoke show to that location. They are pissing off everybody at hotels and condos in the area. IT IS LOUD ! The number to call to report and complain about loud noise is 1337.

I ate there today for the first time. I had a "taco." It was very interesting and delicious. The taco shell is very different from what I am used to, but very good (Venezuelan style, apparently, and the owner cooked it fresh in front of me). Right now the owner has set up a sort of taqueria area in the front.....air-conditioned inside. I highly recommend the place. It is not the same-o-same o. I had the shredded pork taco w/ black beans and quacamole....interesting sauces. I am looking forward to trying the vegetarian nachos.
