  1. Correct me if I am wrong: "Briton teachers" should read "British teachers" and "Briton people" should read "British people", right? Not trying to split hairs, but , we are discussing about living in Thailand and teaching English. Therefore, we got to start with what is correct.

    I second that

  2. You certainly did a good job perpetuating the stereotypes.

I reckon its easy to tell the Thai Chinese - they have Chinese script above their store and they speak Thai. Having said that, I've never actually asked the owner of such a store whether he was Thai Chinese, Chinese, or aboriginal Thai. The chap I accidentally started speaking Chinese to in the market, I'm guessing was Chinese immigrant - I don't know how many of the Thai Chinese speak Chinese...

    SC

I believe most do. A friend's wife whose parents had a trace of chinese ancestry speak fairly fluent mandarin and so does most of her generation in the family tree

  3. Where in the world is this model now being copied , mind you Thailand had some serious slums which I had the pleasure of extricating people from , I mean Serious slums with horific conditions and health hazards the like I had never seen before or since .

Africa, Asia, you name it. It is a fact that Thailand is the leading country in transforming slum to working communities.

United Nations are doing a great job in Thailand!

    Couldn't have said it better

  4. Actually I find the cashier situation at Tesco much worse than Carrfour here in Bangkok. Often only three out of 40 open at the large and busy Lotus I normally use. At Carrfour they can actually open the safety theft devise box at the check-out counter without having to run to the end of the store two times for a battery purchase waisting everyones time. Carrefour also has a better selection of goods which also seem to be of higher quality. The downside is poor display design and apparent French logic as to where food items belong.

    Totally agree

  5. Tea money is currently running at 500 Baht a month. Probably cheaper in Chiang Mai I guess.

That is good and practical knowledge. Haven't been here long enough to know lol.

Sorry I should have pointed out for those who don't know its 1000 Baht.

You mean its 1000 baht in Chiang Mai? or generally?
