  1. I was in Pattaya last weekend and I'm sure they turn off all the lights on Beach Road when it's their busiest time.

I was nearly squashed by a speeding car as I tried to cross the road at some dead lights outside the police station.:annoyed:

  2. This is the Tourist Police's "Mission" on their website:

    1. Increase the physical fitness of the providing assistance, convenience, and safety both of life and properties, including protect tourists ‘ benefits.

    2. Develop the criterion of safety, assistance, and convenience for Tourists.

Made the confidence of safety for Tourist who come to travel want to come back again.

So I hope this means they will help out here, but I can't be sure....:whistling:

  3. I wouldn't be very friendly if this happened to me. I have seen it done and heard about it from others, and now on here. Why target foreigners in high season? Easy money or are they looking for something more? I doubt it.

  4. The big round jellyfish will sting quite severely.

My 5 year old daughter had a tangle with one, as well as a guy swimming.

We applied some lotion from a chemist across the road but the damage had been done. She got it across the back of her hand and it took ages to heal up. The wound was really deep.

She is now scarred for life.

The guy got it down the side of his body and across his chest, it was a very large area that had been affected, he was in real pain but decided to live with it instead of seeking medical attention, or vinegar, or even urine.

Ever tried to find vinegar on the beach in a hurry?

I am sorry about your daughter. I had no idea the round ones were so harmful.

You say it was a "wound" and not a rash. I had no idea they could open up the skin. I have never seen they have tentacles, just floating or washed up, like big dinner plates.

Do they sting upon contact anywhere with their bodies, on top or underneath?

  5. After reading the General topic on jellyfish, I wonder have any board members been stung recently in Pattaya or Jomtien? Last weekend I saw some very large round jellyfish in the water, but I do not know if they even sting.Thank you.

  6. How about Silom road at night, loads of Mont Blanc fountain pens down there. should be able to get one for less than 1000 baht, and it will come in a look alike box.

Also Sukhumvit Road at night, near Nana junction.

  7. I often read Andrew Drummond's website. The expose he did on Hua Hin British mafia was excellent, and much else that he writes is very entertaining.

For some reason I thought the very mention of his name was banned on Thai Visa. Clearly I was wrong, but it's good to see his website getting deserved publicity.

  8. Huh, I never thought this movie would have been allowed to shoot in Thailand. Just what Thailand needs, 90 minutes of whore and ladyboy jokes and all them riding around in tuk tuks

Post a synopsis here so we can see what it is all about. Cheers

I understand the script and the plot are closely guarded secrets, but I am guessing the usual Thailand/Bangkok cliches will be in abundance.

    Hangover 1 WAS funny though.

  9. Ok, understood. I have never heard of anyone being done for drinking and riding a push bike. very cheap and will keep you fit.

either that or get a regular girl who lives in Patong and stay around hers when there!

Riding a pushbke back from Patong to Chalong at 4am ?? With a bird on the back ??

Is that really the suggestion

 Maybe hitch hiking might be the better 'Girl-friendly" option!

  10. Everything you post openly on the internet will be published elsewhere by design.

I am unable to understand the "by design" part of your post.

I assume it to mean that the very fact that it displayed on here anyone can pick it up and take it anywhere.

But the point is, should TV willingly allow it without the OP knowing nothing about it.

Shouldn't TV have a moral obligation towards it's members to let them know?

I would be flattered if my posting nonsense was put in a column. :whistling:

But can "Monkeypants", or other board names, legally own copyright to a post? Surely that would have to be in the name of an individual, not a silly board name?

Also, does Thai Visa actually own Pattaya One? If not, when does it see the Above Bawd in Pattaya column? How could it know what was being put into it to notify anyone?

I am wondering why some people are getting so worked up about this - posting on the internet, in a public access forum, posting under silly names?

    Goodness. Get a life folks.

  11. Well done Pattaya One for adding an entertaining new addition to Thai Visa, by giving some moaners a new platform for manufactured outrage and allowing other bored ones to repeat their boring posts for each new edition.

Some of the posts are almost more entertaining than the paper itself.

Maybe you should get John Thomas to cover the Pattaya One posters in the next Above Bawd column.:D

  12. I am not sure why Pattaya One is being so criticised.

If you dont like it, why read it?

I am in Australia and ind it a handy source for reading about Pattaya and whats going on. Its not the most journalistic paper, but its light reading and enjoyable.

    Keep up the good work.

Hear hear. Excellent read, good fun and the download link is very useful, as I discovered when I was back in the UK recently.

  13. Yes, they are that good!

    Not to Australians

    D'ough! Krispy Kreme going bust

1/11/2010 9:04:57 AM811125_01NOV10KrispyKreme_400x300.jpg The Australian arm of the Krispy Kreme doughnut company is going into administration, citing poor sales and high costs. Australians still love Homer Simpson, and we're catching up with the US in the obesity stakes, but it seems you can't make money selling American doughnuts Down Under.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts is going into voluntary administration because of poor sales.

Probably the same in the UK. I was recently back in London with my TGF and she could not believe how deserted the KK outlets were when we visited. I tried one of hers and didn't like it at all. Too sweet.

  14. Zaphod....X, some good points made, but I do think the forums column is more entertainment than serious news reporting going by its writing tone. Unless the writer really thinks it's news to report someones joke suggestion to re-use a condom!

I have enjoyed both Pattaya One editions. Made me LOL. Keep it up Howard.

Do you plan to distribute the paper in Bangkok anywhere?

  15. Absolutely no chance. Don't make it so dam easy for them. Take some photos of them with your mobile phone first, that will throw them off. Act very calm and say you will pay what's on the meter. Ask the policeman 3 times directly that he wants 200 baht from you for nothing, and then ask his name and station. Put this into your phone. Then tell him directly that you will call your Embassy to tell them of this situation and to get a lawyer, then the Tourist Police to come bef

ore you go back to the station to be arrested for nothing and asked for corrupt money.

You'll be sent on your way.

I once was accosted by two cops on the street wanting to search me etc., of course being completely innocent of anything I went on the offensive as you suggest.

Now I have lived in thailand quite a long time and can read a situation pretty well, I could tell right from the look on their faces that they were having none of that, their body language instantly became aggressive and in a split second I could tell something really bad was about to happen to me.

I immediately changed my tone to ultra respectful, let them search me, said thank you (kop pom, kop pom) etc. and they let me go, no problem.

I don't get that feeling often but this was one of those times.

Be careful of the advice you give, bad things can and do happen here. You have to ask yourself "is it worth it?"

Very good post and I always give this advice to friends who come to visit me in Bangkok. Nothing is worth wasting a few hours in a police station over (if you are lucky), if the alternative is to pay a police extorter 200 baht. Outrageous yes, but pragmatic advice.

  16. Gents, can someone tell me in plain English language - who is right - Thai Visa/Pattaya One, with reporting of the change of enforcement, if it is that, or Drew Noyes with his "nobody gets put in prison if their overstay is LESS THAN 365 days" story, which he printed after this hare started running?

I recall Mr Noyes wrote a scare story about bar managers and crackdowns a while ago, which was jolly misleading, and I hope he is wrong again.

    Thank you.

  17. I don't wish to double post but I am copying below a Maestro post and my reply and questions from another thread running on this topic to ask if anyone who understands the Pattaya One story better than I do, whether it HAS been vindicated or not?!

    Thank you,

    Confused:blink:

One overstay report has already been posted here. Three months overstay, went directly to Samui airport, was detained, ordered to pay 6,000 Baht, left two days later.

I am waiting for clarification whether the overstayer was sent to court and the money he paid was a fine, perhaps fine plus court fees, not bail. That would be the usual procedure when an overstayer is not let go by immigration at the border point with a summary fine of 500 Baht per day, maximum 20,000 Baht.

Had this overstayer gone to the local immigration office before going to the airport, he probably would have had to pay the maximum fine of 20,000 Baht but would not have been detained for a court hearing and would not have missed his flight.

P.S. It was bail, after all. Court hearing will be later.

Could you then clarify why Badbanker said in another thread:

Sadly this story is dead. I respect this forum, but quoting unconfirmed Pattaya One sources is irresponsible and has caused panic. Since this story broke embassies have been inundated with requests for confirmation or denial of the "supposed new policy"!

Every embassy I have spoken to has confirmed business as usual with overstays at the moment.

By "business as usual" does it mean overstayers have always been imprisoned?

I also read a Drew Noyes newspaper piece saying anyone overstaying UNDER 365 day would be allowed to leave without imprionment. Is this also wrong?

A confusing state of affairs really.
