  1. Never buy or rent anything in a Thai nationals name.

It may seem like a good idea at the time, but it isn't.

Only if they see you as a gullible farang to be fleeced.

If it's a family member you trust and have had a long- term relationship with, then it makes sense.

    Its not the gullible farang

Its the other poaching family members who dont give a sh*te about the farang because thai family blood is thicker than any water

Wow, what an attitude. Have you ever thought it might be because you married into a dysfunctional family?

Are you suggesting that all Thai family members don't care about their son/brother - in - law? I get a strong feeling that mine do. I'm visiting the family home today and meeting with all the family who come from around the country. I've been doing this NY routine for 13 years and they are like, well family. We have been through a lot together, good and bad, and trust them totally.

I have been visiting my inlaws in Thailand for twenty years. Some of my inlaws have issues, but that is not different than my own family members in the USA. My inlaws in Thailand are part of my family. Everyone has a slightly different situation, you need to be smart enough to know what is going on around you. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water, not all Thai inlaws are out to take all your money and treat you like a walking ATM.
  2. As Thailand, or Siam as is was then, is the only country in S. E. Asia not colonised by Western powers, please explain what you mean by "militaristic imperialism." Do you mean the Japanese occupation during World War 2?

Also, the attitude and behaviour of tourists in Thailand described by you is equally prevalent amongst tourists in my country, the UK, especially in London.

Yes, many Western tourists in Thailand, and elsewhere, are arrogant; ex pats too.

However, my step son works in a bank in a tourist area of Bangkok and he tells me that the most arrogant foreigners he deals with are the Japanese, with Indians and Russians coming a close joint second.

I'm only referring to old colonialism as historicity and specifically linking arrogant and demanding habits by privileged tourists to neo-colonialism, racism and imperialist influences. Because Thailand was not a textbook case of old school colonization, doesn't mean it hasn't, throughout history, been caught in the middle of it all. Your son's experiences fit well into what I'm referring to in my initial post.

Also, I'm actually very happy to troll this board.. AND point directly at the elephant in the room.

So in your universe you don't have to be colonized to experience the negative effects of being colonized, merely being situated nearby a country that has been is enough. India is now a colonial power with imperial influences? I don't think so, if I remember history correctly India was colonized by the British Empire and England was actually a real empire with real imperial influences. India and many other former British colonies have somehow managed to overcome the horror of English colonization and is now doing fairly well only 60 some years after it ended. What (in your mind) exactly is the elephant in the room? I must have missed it.

Armed security guards in schools for me, but not for thee.

Why is it OK for the rich and privileged in the USA to send their children to a secure school (with armed guards), but there is outrage when this solution is suggested for ordinary children in a public school. I guess I should not be surprised.

  4. http://www.nationmul...n-30196687.html

    Contradict yourself much The Nation?

But actually it makes sense since the yellow shirt mouth piece that is The Nation will say anything and it's opposite to find an angle of attack, hoping something will stick.

Regardless, how about trying to address the points in this article? It is amusing to watch people who once loudly proclaim their support for common people and social programs for the poor justify tax cuts for the rich and the further crippling of a tax system that is already toothless and unable to properly collect revenue.

So the way to fix a broken tax system is to raise the tax rate on the rich (those most able to hire a proper CPA and legally minimize their tax liability). The same system that you say is "toothless and unable to properly collect revenue" at the current rates.

Maybe, just maybe it the tax rates were not confiscatory it would be easier (and cheaper) for the wealthy to just pay the tax rather than hiring tax lawyers and CPA's (which are expensive, but are a lot cheaper than 37% of your income) to legally avoid the taxman.

Higher tax rates only equate to more revenue on paper, when put into practice tax revenues normally decrease. I would be willing to bet that France's new 75% tax rate on the wealthy will not result in a corresponding increase in revenue.

It is a puzzling phenomenon, but for some strange reason people seem to have a desire to keep the money that they have earned.

  5. This is a difficult concept for many people to grasp, but corporations do not pay taxes. The people that buy their products or services end up paying more so that the company can produce it's product/service plus the tax.

Tax the companies more and one of two things will happen, the price of the product will increase, or the company will find a way to make the product/service for less money (i.e. fire employees). At some point the company may decide that it is better to produce the product somewhere else, and move the entire operation somewhere more profitable.

"tax the rich til there are no rich no more"

  6. If you know anything about me. Please do not comment.

I never request money from the man.

I've known him for 1 year, but I never thought to take him to my home.

But this time he wanted to go home to request me.

He told me from the beginning. He will not married in his life ( I know why) . I'm ok with that because I do not want marry too . my parants not need money from him too .. that very cheaper for him !

If you want to know anything more than this asked him before someone comment other else does well. Please see for yourself first .Is it good?

I just want my kids love them.

And wanted him to play with kids I did not think.

Children calls you that KEENOK... it Better than calls you that BUFFALO

    Please understand word of keenok.

    1. keenok means stingy. Or farang poor

    2. keenok means Bird feces.

    3. keenok means Guava fruit

BUFFALO means very stupid or XXXX the word of people in the west said

You should happy they calls you Keenok! LOL.

You child is rude. On the first visit he asks for money and then insults the person. You should teach your children to behave better.
  7. It is true that beauty is desirable, but in the long run it does not matter how beautiful she is if she has a personality of a bent The hard part is finding a woman that is attractive to you, but with a good heart. If she is not a good person to start with no amount of beauty will make the relationship worth it in the long run. Short term (or time) is a different story.

In the USA (and worldwide) there are two types of women.

    1. High maintenance, meaning lots of makeup, the need for excessive jewelery, expensive cars, houses that are too large or too fancy. Material things are the reason she exists.

    2. Low maintenance, meaning a natural beauty (very little makeup), sensible jewelery, practical vehicles, and a reasonable house to live in. Material things are not her reason for being, family is more important than money

In Thailand and the USA low maintenance (and attractive) is hard to find, but if you keep your eyes open to what is going on around you it is possible to find

I have been married to a very attractive (low maintenance) Thai woman for twenty years. I am a very lucky man.

I get tired of a lot of the posts on TV talking about how such and such Thai girl took so much money from a farang and left him broke and sad. I blame the farang for not being smart enough to figure out what is going on and make a reasonable (grown up) decision to move on if the woman is not a good one. You can find gold digging beautiful women in every country of this world, and you will also find stupid men that will spend every penny they have to be with them.

We are all grown ups, actions have consequences and stupidity should be punished.

  8. I'm sure it does happen.

So do accidents resulting from having guns in the house.

I'm betting the incidence of the latter is higher than the former.

In any case, there is nothing in my house so valuable that I would want to kill someone to protect. If someone wants to burglarize me, I'm sure they'd prefer to break in when I'm not around.

If I am around, my "game plan" is to let them take whatever they like. A couple second-hand televisions are not worth killing anyone over.

What if they want to take your life?

I would prefer not to let the criminal make the decision what is worth killing someone over.

That being said, if you are not comfortable with a gun in your house then you should probably not have one.

  9. Why dry? Soak (in a bowl or bag in the refrigerator) the pork belly for 2-4 days in brown sugar and salt (equal amounts) and enough water so that a raw egg that is still intact in the shell floats (remove the raw egg before soaking the pork belly). Then smoke in a smoker (low heat) for 6-12 hours. Yummy.

  10. Guns Kill.

    It is their primary function.

It's rather foolish to think that you might not need one.

I was attacked by feral dogs 15 years ago in Northern California. The next time I went to my ranch, I had a Glock 19 with me.One round over the poochies heads and they were gone.

Let's see.. then there was the mountain lion that I thought was the neighbor's dog one night, as I tried to entice it to eat some chicken with me. Closer examination awakened me from my Eau De Vie Poire William fantasy, that the neighbor's dog had come to visit. Closed the bottle...went inside the house for a while.

I no longer own any weapons. Mostly by choice, but also because of theft. This should be a big consideration for anyone living in LOS. The possibility that you may be shot with your own weapon is greater than zero in provinces fueled by YaaBaa, (crank for you Californians).

There is a very large King Cobra living around our house. I have never killed an animal with a weapon. Snakes are of great benefit when you are overrun with mice. I have no desire to kill it and could probably convince it to leave if I could ever figure out where he/she hangs out. Still, this does not mean I would not like a weapon to even the odds in the event the snake wanted to have it's way with me in the biblical sense.

Guns are a pain in the ass...if you take it with you.. it owns you..

Had a crazed man tell me he was going to kill me once. He meant it. My .357 was within a meter of my reach, yet had I gone for it.. he would have dropped me with a small axe, like rice under an Isan scythe. I immediately embraced the man and apologized for whatever indiscretion he felt I had bestowed upon him. Guns can be a rapid ending to a long story.

To say that people are stupid for owning them is like telling a mechanic he is stupid for using metric tools on a Mercedes. There is a time and place for everything.

If Christine LaGarde's predictions are correct, I would highly suggest you invest in a magnum, short barreled shotgun and 50 rounds of deer slugs, because if the world economy collapses...you're going to need it Coolio, just not in Thailand.

Civilised countrys in Europe doesn`t allow too much weapons, I will never understand why USAmericans need them like big bOOb-ies --- Fact is, if one have one he will shoot and a lot of crazy dogs drinking too much doesnt proof me wrong here. .... But with all the weapons around in your glorious country I will never understand why you finally not shoot the RIGHT people and leave the rest of the world alone and at peace jap.gif

Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Austria are European civilized countries and all allow gun ownership. The Czechs make some of the best handguns in the world (CZ). I have responsibly owned guns most of my adult life, never had one stolen (due to a very good gun safe), and have never shot anyone. If my life or the life of my family is threatened I would use them in self defense. There is a saying here in the USA that it is is better to be judged by twelve (members of a jury) than to carried by six (people carrying my coffin).

    Go in peace.
