  1. My wife is a successful pond fisherperson and uses no other bait but small live shrimp. On many occasions she's approached by other fishermen at the ponds and asked to sell them some of her bait.

Her main catch is Gourami, up to 2kg but got some nice Pacu once. she's limited because she refuses to use a rod with a reel on it, preferring the traditional "line fixed to the rod tip" method and often gets broken off by larger fish. Only yesterday one broke her rod and she came home cursing. Can't tell her though.

I taught mine how to use a rod and reel and now she likes catching Plachon also, but she still puts a line in the water tied around a bottle or can and catches the Bunins while she is throwing a lure.

Great to watch her do this.

  3. I have 2 spools of 'spider line' braid that I bought in the UK that has never been used and will give away for free. I am in Chiang Mai.

Details: Spider Line / Spider wire / 40lb / 150 yards / Colour pale green one slighter brighter than the other.

    Anyone use this stuff?

In case you have not got rid of the line yet, I will take it if it's ok with you. I will pay for the postage EMS to Bangkok also so you don't have to spend any money.

    If still available send to:

(Please use PM or email function)

Call me if you are sending it to me with the cost for EMS and I will transfer the funds to your bank account before you send it.

    Thanks

  4. Good point, bonzor.

Anyone ever seen Amazon PB caught by fishermen in the Mekong?

For Snakehead (Plachon), my favorite fish that I always go for as I like the fight they put up plus the way the taste is.

I only fish for Plachon and have been doing so over 7 years now all around Thailand.

You can buy a lure it's called Pla Kade and comes in various colors. I have had the best luck on the silver with the white top and head. I have also used different spinners and almost any top water lure during the cool season or early in the morning or late evening. The Plachon hang near the banks, near brush and near debris in the water.

I believe that anywhere you can find lily pads or grass there will be Plachon there. Sometimes when I ride my motorcycle I carry a rod and reel with just a couple lures and when I see water on the sides of the road that have lilys or grass in them I will stop and try and catch a Plachon. On these trips I only do the catch and release method.

Always ensure you carry needle nose pliers or a leather man to help remove the lure once fish is caught.

Sometimes when you hook a big Plachon he will bury himself into the mud or the soft bottom and you will end up breaking things if you try and muscle him out. I will always cut my line and tie it around a good bush or tree so it is still tight and wait for the line to go slack (Plachon coming out of mud, hole whatever) and then grab the line (With a rag or gloves) and then pull him in.

Why else do I tie my line off?? So I can put another lure on and fish for more cause sometimes the Plachon will stay in the hole, mud etc. for awhile and it is boring just sitting and waiting for him to back out of the hole, mud.

Once you get into catching Plachon and get the hang of it you will love it. Watch for them to be breaking the surface around ponds, lakes, rivers near the bank and most of the time if you ease up to the area or close enough to get a lure there he will hit it as they like to stay around the same area for awhile.

Some ponds in Issan I fish, once I see a big one playing around the edge I will throw a lure back and forth across that area for awhile and if he has moved away, I will simply remember where he was at and try the same area that late afternoon if I saw him in the morning or I will go back the next morning and catch him.

I have caught a Plachon on fresh food and live bait but I believe it was all a case of where the bait just went right in front of his mouth and he took it. Don't try this method if you want fish to eat, cause 8-10 times you will not catch one. LURES, LURES, Pla Kade is best for me can buy for anywhere between 50-100 baht for one.

I also had some artificial worms (Black w/Red tails) sent to me from the USA a couple years ago and they worked ok. But had to end up putting a series of 2 hooks per worm or the Plachon was only taking the back half of my worm, so I would end up with only a half worm when using 1 hook set up and no fish.

Hope this helps. I can talk for hours, days about fishing I love it. Good luck and hope this helps.

  5. I am the Deputy Managing Director of an International company here in Thailand that has over 1000 employee's both external and internal.

I am telling you FROM EXPERIENCE do not let an employee get away with bending the rules!

If you allow ANY employee to get away with bending the rules then you cannot punish another slacker in the future as this will be held against you in Thai Labor Court. "You let Jane do it, so why not John?"

Post your company rules, but before posting have them looked over by the Labor Dept to ensure they are fair and not against any labor law in place and then hole the employee's accountable at all cost! This has to be done every year!

I have let good people (I thought) go because they violated the rules and I did not want to have to fight in the future for trying to get rid of dead weight for the same reasons.

Sometimes we try and conduct business with a heart and feel sorry but if you are weak in this area you will end up losing in the end.

Sorry if I seem negative but I want to ensure you have the FACTS and dont listen to these posters that only chat and post via internet all day and night. I LIVE and WORK here in Thailand.

You can stop by my office anytime to talk or email me for anything I can do to help you or your business. Our website is Visit My Website

Hope this helps even though I know there will be a lot of flamers coming out after this...

  6. Has anybody used an employment agency in Bkk to secure the services of a Thai employee?

I need to find a well educated Thai national with a good command of English. This would be a part time role, leading to a full time, salaried position within the next 12 months for a suitable candidate. He/She would need to have recent, relevant experience in a particular role, so a headhunting agency may be another option.

    Cheers.

    <snip>

You can also send an email to me at <snip> with exactly what you are looking for. We are not headhunters but rather manpower outsourcing providers.

    Cheers

  7. For sale a 1993 ZZR1100 Ninja with book, taxes and insurance paid up to date.

The bike has no problems with the exception that it does not have a rider that has time to take her out.

The bike is located in Bangkok Latphrao 101 near Bangkapi Mall.

Bike is kept in doors (Living room) 24 hours a day. This bike is ready now and can be ridden anywhere.

Also will help with the book transfer if need be.

Price is 120,000 Baht ONO. Don't have to sell her but will. You will not find a better bike for this price in Thailand with book and worry free.

PM or email me for pics as I cannot get this site to upload for some reason.

    No time wasters please. :o

  8. Hi Folks, as the title indicates, I am after info as to whether there are any organised business breakfast clubs or lunch clubs etc in Bangkok. I am very keen to find out and make contact. I am living here now and have had my sabbatical and wish to start an extension of my business in the UK over here. Thanks in anticipation.

My recommendation would be to join one or more of the Chambers of Commerce as they always have different events going on where net working is great.

    Dan :o

  9. Ensure whatever "Emblem" you place on your vehicle "Official Government Type" has someone you know and can contact associated with it should it get to that point.

I have both the Military and Royal Thai Police on my G-Wagon as well as a sticker that allows me access to any Military base, but I also have Laminated "Signed" Name cards of the individuals that gave me the "Special Items" to show should I ever be questioned as to how or why I have them.

Some of my contacts have told me that if I ever get stopped (Once in 3 years) to explain to the police or whomever that I am a consultant of the individual whom gave the special item to me and show them the name card. When and if they call he/she will validate that I am who I say and thus no actions will be taken against me.

Is it wrong to use these special items? Yes, maybe but it does work. I only showed one name card when stopped in Bangkok near the Royal Palace for the one special item being questioned and once they saw the name card was laminated and "Signed" they became very kind and said have a good day and be safe.

It's like carrying a Police Badge but not being a real police. So it is wrong in all accounts really.

Don't want to offend anyone but wanted to let others know what I have been told by actual Police Generals and Military Generals etc.

    Thanks

    Dan :D:o

  10. Wish I could help you, Dan, but instead I can only add another question:

How long does that trip take? :o

I'm planning to take the BKK-Chiangmai trip with some friends, too, and we are already having an argument: one says it can be done easily within one day, another one thinks that's mad and we should include one overnight stay.

We all have big bikes (1000 cc up), but we also want to enjoy the ride and not just race.

    So, comments? Thanks!

    GizmoBkk,

We are leaving on the 5th of Dec and returning the 9th. You are all welcome to join us. We will stop overnight both ways. I am sure it could be done in a day but we want to see things and just enjoy the ride. So far 1 Harley, 2 CBR's, 1 VFR, 1 Blackbierd, 1 Super Four and me on my ZZR1100. We will only run 100-120kph as the guy on the Harley and 1 other doesn't like to run much faster, maybe 140 tops.

  11. Well, she found someone, paid him 500 baht, he drove her to the Transportation Dept. and spent 30 minutes with her getting used to the car, she took the driving test (she had passed everything else on Monday), and now she has a license. Moderator, you can close this post. Thank you.

I am very sorry you had to go through all this as I thought we Farungs were here in Thailand to take care of our better halves and meet and greet as well as help our fellow farungs. Guess I was wrong!

If I were not living and working in Bangkok now as opposed to Burirum as I have a home there I would have had no problem helping you and the misses out. I went through this same BS with my misses. Everyone talks a good story but when you dig down most are only in it for themselves and could care less about you or your situation.

What has this world come too. We are foreigners and as such should be more helping of one another because and I hate to say this cause it will offend others but the average Thai could give shit less as long as the ATM or money comes in. Let me say THIS IS NOT THE CASE IN ALL! I only say ALOT.

But bottom line is, I am glad it worked out. Martin from the Farung connection is a great guy and I am sure he would have cared less why you were renting the vehicle as long as you paid for the rental. I am quite sure Martin has insurance on all his stuff. I know some don't approve of Martin and say bad things about him but I can honestly say out of all the people I HAVE MET in Issan with the exception of a close friend Dean, Martin would give you his shirt if you needed it. Dean is my best friend here in Thailand with the exception of my misses, even though I would still, trust Dean more. He is a straight shooter and when he tells you or promises you something it's like the older days when a handshake was all it took and you can count on it 100%

Again glad it worked out. We get spun up on How can I trust this guy, what if his wife breaks my car etc....Well if a frog had wings he /she would not bump their ass everytime they jump...

Good Luck and always remember No one can take better care of yourself than you!

  12. Has anyone ever made the trip from Bangkok to Chiang mai in the past couple of years that can give me the best route to take on a bike?

I need to meet other riders at the junction of Hwy 1 and Hwy 32 then from there how is the best way to go, or if going to 32 is not good then please help us as we will do this Dec 5 2008.

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Cheers guys.

I opened up the case, checked inside and there is no visible sign of water damage, so I think I'm going to give Asus Global Care a call, the laptop is still in waranty, and I might get a free fix out of them, I'll just tell them it won't power on for some reason, see how it goes.

    Mac,

I live and work here in Bangkok if you want you can send it up to me and I will have my IT Manager take it to ASUS for you. I know it's a pain traveling from Issan to here as I have a home in Burirum that I now visit every 3 months or so.

If I can help let me know.

Those are very clean headers on the Super4. Did you polish them or what?

This is really my girls bike, she has done allot to it. No not polished just had a mate bring them in from Japan 2 years ago. Now the bike is actually Yellow and Black, she changed the colors but still looks good.

The ZZR1100 looks strangely familiar. Was it on the market recently?

Yes it was on the market a while back. I was going to sell it until I woke up and decided I like her better than the CB1300 I had my eye's on. The ZZR is very quick and is 100%, no need to do anything, however I am looking to do a custom Airbrush to it soon.

  16. As long as they have a place to get out of the rain, I will still be there. Free bike wash and free bath while riding..Cant beat that. Just ride slower and keep the visor wiped.

    Dan

Just so you know, there's rain and lightning in Pinklao (I'm right beside Bang Yai) right now. I'm having second thoughts, maybe tomorrow?

    ***EDIT***

Wow, okay now there is heavy rain and a LOT of lightning. TIT, this might be gone soon though...
