  1. Don't worry about Burirum in its'self. Burirum is a nice small town and had alot of Farangs there. Most eat breakfast and hang out at a place called Bamboo Club or bar and its only 100 meters from there to a book store where you can get the Bangkok Post or other international newpapers and about 150 meters to a bank.

When you go for the first time they (Family) will throw a party for you (You Expected to help Pay) but only about 2-3,000 Baht so dont worry. Like someone else posted be polite and respectful and most of all dont flaunt any money around...Don't be scared to say no when you are asked by your girlfriend or her family for money...If you say yes then they will always think yes from you...

I live between Burirum and Surin and have been here for over three years now. I love it here and have alot of Thai friends and most know me as the Farang Fishing Man or KHUNDAN.... I learnt after about a year of just throwing money away that if your smart JUST SAY NO!

Hope this helps...If nothing else just go to see something other than Bangkok.

  2. Take your girlfriend and yourself to Penang and get your Tourist Visa first...The Visa is the most important thing for YOU! There are some people that offer Visa services for you in Penang..But I like to go to the Counsalte and dod it all myself so I get the answers or questions from the Horses Mouth if you know what I mean..

There is a place in Penang and I'm not adverstising for him or his company MAJU MEHAA SINGH TRAVEL & TOURS, 384 Chukia Street, 10200 Penang.

Tel: 2615170/2634903 or EMAIL: [email protected]....

Very good person as I mett him and I found out from other service providers there that they give all there paperwork to him to get approved at the Counsalate...So he is the bottom line person. He is the man there in Penanag by what I have been told and this was August 2004.

There are many guesthouses on Chulia street and you can walk from the ferry crossing.

Not alot there that I saw but did spend a night in a place near the beach where they have a huge night market but all I saw was the same stuff I see in Thailand except the prices were more there...EXCEPT THEY HAVE THE LATEST VCD'S AND DVD'S AND AT A GOOD PRICE...

Hope this helps but take care of your Visa and stop trying to impress your girlfriend...Without a Visa you cannot impress anyone...

Sorry I'm straight to the point but I'm a retired Marine and I hate people trying to impress or be better than others...

  3. Lopburi,

Thanks for all your assistance in this matter. I will be in Bangkok on the 10th of next month and since my first 2 month expires on the 15th I will try and get this done in Bangkok. I will have the 1,900 Baht for the extension and will carry with me about 25,000 Baht extra...This should cover it all ????

Where do I get the TM7 form at...Immigration or can I download it from the net. What's a good reason for an extension??

    Again Thanks

  4. I use Chong Chom alot and yes they will issue you a Cambodian Visa upon entry. The only difference between Chong Cho and Poipet is that Chong Chom doesn't have anything there except for Casino's and a small market unless you go over the hill for about 2 kms then they have the bar girl scene.

Also at Chong Chom the Cambodian Immigration charge you alittle bit extra for crossing the border...

  5. Lopburi,

My Tourist Visa is a triple entry good until 15 Feb 2005... So my first expire date is 15 Oct 2004...Should I go get a 30 day extension and ten after the 30 days exit and re enter again? And if I should get an extension where do I get it? I live in Burirum and the closet border is Chom Chom near Surin or do I have to go to Bangkok...I've always had a Non-B before this and all this is new to me...

    Thanks

  6. BRIAN,

What I have found out is that you can pretty much fish anywhere unless it has a fence around it and it is a stocked pond. Most of the signs that say "No Fishing" means you cannot use a net or a cast net in the water there..As most Thai's dont so the rod and reel thing...

    Where are you located at?

Take care and keep fishing...Have some receipes if needed..

  7. According to what I have read on this site I can use extensions on my Tourist Visa???

THAIFLYER1...I have a Tourist Visa Multiple entry good for 6 months which expires in Feb 2005. My first 2 months expires on Oct 15, 2004....My idea was to go to Poipet (with 20,000 Baht Cash) and exit and re-enter Thailand to start the 2nd 2 months, but if I can extend it and still have another two months after and then extend it again and have two months that would be great...

I'm a Retired Marine 44 years old so break this all down to laymens term for me please..

  8. I went to the new border outside Sisaket (Chong Sa ngam) yesterday on my 750 Yamaha chopper :D to check out another members trip post on this site.

Well the ride from here (Burirum) to Khukhan was a great ride, :D just took it easy and took in the scenary since I did not need to do a visa run...Just wanted to go for the ride and update everyone on this "NEW BORDER CROSSING".

The trip was good except for the last 65 Kms. :o From Khukhan to the turnoff to the border (48 Kms) was a road that was full off pot holes and Cow dung..Then at the turn off which would have me travel another 17 Kms was a nightmare. :D

First they stopped me and had to see the paperwork on my bike. (No problems) Then they said just follow this road to the end. A clay dirt road with rocks jutting out and not pot holes BUT RAVINES to cross all the way. Well I wanted the adventure so off I went. It took me just over an hour to make the 17 Km trip. Had to cross three water holes (Mudd) and the last one was up to the head of my 750. Well I got muddy and so did my girl. Lost a Kick stand spring and two bolts. (one on the luggage rack & One from the muffler mount) This was going. Also had to cross a small stream.

Well got to the border and since I didn't need to update my visa they (Cambodians) would not let me inside to the little little market they have. Spoke to a few Thais and they told me it would be built up and easy to get to in about 3 years. They could not believe that I had made it all the way on a chopper..

Well I eat some cowpot on the Thai side and had a coke, then we decided to go and stay in Sasaket for the night....OOP"S we got about 2 Kms from the border heading back on this to hard to explain road or trail and could not go any futher.. :D There was a large truck that had slide in the mudd and got stuck across the entire road so no one could come into the border or go out... Well this happened around noon time...At about 1800 alot of Thais had managed to move the truck enough so that a motorcycle could get by. (But had to be walked and needed 5 people standing in the mudd to help guide it through) Needless to say it was dark and I would say a great if not difficult off-road motorcross road to manuver at night. I did it on a 750 Yamaha and am proud but feel stupid for even attempting to go to the border once I seen the conditions of the so called road. But what the heck as a retired Marine I'm always up for the challenge.

Now here's the bottom line. Unless you are very desperate and have a 4x4 with mudd terrain tires and a lift or a 250 motocross bike DON'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO GO THERE!!!

There is nothing there...But you can get your visa in and out...The Casino some were talking about well it has been closed for two months now and they are moving it more inside the Cambodian border now. I spoke to the Cambodian Immigration officers for awhile since my girl went to the market (As Thais can do) and I stayed there waiting between Thailand and Cambodia. Thai Immigration understood I wasn't doing a visa run and told me they had no problem with me crossing over and seeing the market but it was up to the Cambodian Officials. Well the Cambodian Officials wanted me to pay 1200 BAHT for a Visa just to go in...

Hope this helps anyone thinking about going there...DON'T

  10. I have been selected by a company in Bangkok to work as their Safety Officer. I am a retired marine 44 years old on a now Tourist Visa multiple entry 6 month.

What are my steps from here??? Do I go back to Penang and get a Non-Im B Visa and if so what do I need from the company according to this web site all I need is a letter from them...

Who applys for the work permit??? The company told me they would do that for me... I've been in Thailand but I've never worked here except as a Marine and Volunteering to assist the Royal Thai Marine Corps from time to time...

I need some answers quick!!! I really enjoy this forum even though some people seem to be a little uptight and instead of helping they try and scare others. Well I'm retired so it's hard for me to get scared from a email...

Anyway please help me with this matter...

  11. :o I have recently returned (Today) from Penang, Malaysia where I was given a Multiple entry Tourist Visa 3 times 2 months each time.

Can I apply for another multiple tourist visa after this one expires??? The reason I ask this is because while in Penang I spoke to some other farangs who told me that Thailand was going to pass another change next month that states once you use up a multiple entry tourist visa then you have to Leave Thailand and cannot re-enter Thailand for 6 months. Was told you can stay in Thailand for six months but then have to stay outside Thailand for Six months????Please clarify for me.

Me, I'm a retired U.S. Marine 44 years old. Do not work and live off my retirement pension. Have built a house here in Burirum 3 years ago. Had a non-immigrant type B visa that just expired and was not granted another Non-Immigrant but only a tourist visa. I had a letter from the Royal Thai Marine Corps that stated that I assist them whenever there are U.S. forces in Thailand and that my services were valuable to the Thai Government and the Royal Thai Marine Corps. Had a letter also from a well known Police Colonel stating that I had made Burirum my home and am taking care of 5 Thai citizens however none of this helped.

So bottom line is, if this 6 month only thing becomes a reality then I need to look at other countries to stay in for 6 months a year...Any Suggestions? Anyone in Cambodia? Maybe Philippines.

    Thanks

  12. I'm making a visa run to penang this weekend, never been there and know nothing about the area.

Taking a train from Bangkok to Butterworth and from there who knows.

Know of any cheap safe places to stay at. Where is the counsalte located at. I was told it's all pretty simple there and that there will surley be other farangs that are making the run that have done it before.

    All help would be appreciated.

  13. I also live outside Burirum ina village called Ompore Krasang between Burirum and Surin. Been here for a little over three years now.

I am a retired U.S. Marine 44 years old, I love to fish and try and do so almost daily.

How long have you been in the Burirum Area? Know any good fishing spots? I am leaving this weekend to go to Malaysia to do the visa run but will be back around the 18th or 19th. Cell number is 06 138 2591 and name is Dan Lanier

  14. :o I am a retired Marine 44 years old living in Thailand. I have spent the past 14 months on a Non-IM O type visa however it will expire next month (AUG).

I was told that Signapore is the closest and easiest place to go and get a new one.

I dont work, live off my retirement and have built a home here in the Northeast.

All I want to do is be able to get a Non-Im O visa so I dont have to do the Visa run every 30 days like I did for two years before.

Thinking about taking one of the 2 nights 3 days packages to Signapore.. Is this enough time to get a visa, and what exactly will I need? Any recomendations.

    Thanks
