I'm cycling further out now and need one of these on dial, just in case. Have you guys found them willing to come out to you right away, or do you rely on friends only?
If anyone has a service in Pattaya please post!

Well, the Thai single mothers do have excellent career options in Pattaya...
Jokes aside I've heard Thailand is at full employment. In such a case this may actually free up labor to be put to better use elsewhere.
Though judging by my street, it seems they like to create pointless little shops and spend most of the day sitting out front. Maybe a change in culture is also needed.

I tried them yesterday and it worked pretty smoothly. Picked up my pie and left faster than usual. Usually there is a line for 2 cashiers; now with 4 points of purchase total there is no line. I suppose this will be the future.
Have you guys seen these self order kiosks anywhere else in Pattaya?
Is this the future of restaurant ordering?

Anyone have some good destinations in this range worth cycling to?
I have it in my plans to see if Utapao will let me in with my bike. I love saving money on taxis if it's an option.
Ban Chang is also on my list,

Good riddance - their surcharge pricing when people need them the most is pure greed.
Either that, or a shift in the supply/demand equilibrium during peak hours?
Or should the drivers be mandated to work faster or at lower rates during peak times?

Your numbers are off.
Low season many days 100 and humidity much higher.
I've been tracking this carefully. Last year the highest temperature was 100 degrees F for the whole year. And only for 1 day: https://www.accuweather.com/en/th/pattaya/317584/month/317584?monyr=4/01/2017
You can see 90% of April 2017 had a high of 95.
Humidity mid day is usually around 70-75%. It's never higher than 80% until it gets close to nightfall.
All these are readings from wherever the weather station is though. They may very well be off for humidity. Temperatures, I'm suspicious of the claim of over 100F in Pattaya.

The period from June through to the end of October sees the South-West monsoon which carries much more humid air and a lot of rain.
This is the traditional explanation, yet I would expect higher humidity during those months to account for the extra sweatiness.
But IIRC it's about 70% humidity (during the daytime) in those months too. Humidity goes down during the day and rises at night.
And outside of late March/April the highs are usually high 80s.
I'm starting to think the humidity readings are wrong for some reason; either too high now, or too low in low season. There has to be a bigger gap than what's shown.

Maybe your body is getting used to the heat.
I like to think that going on 4 years here. Then every year I'm reminded that I sweat like a pig during the worst of low season.
I just wish I knew why. No one seems to be able to tell me either. I guess there's more to the weather than the heat/humidity readings.

As I write this it's 1:45 pm and 88F at 67% humidity. I barely need a fan, weather feels nice.
However there are times in low season where it feels so wet and sweaty even though the stats are basically the same. October comes to mind. I think May to July have some pretty sweaty/sticky weeks too.
Can anyone explain why this is? If humidity were 20% higher on those sweaty days I'd understand, but I believe the temp and humidity is basically the same as now.

Live and let live I say.
Except he didn't, so now his penalty is having to eat the poor quality Thai version of a Western sandwich, all while listen to his girlfriend drone on about the importance of "playing nice" and "not going to brothels all the time."
Thai women. Sheesh!

In the past Big C has had 2 types of green pumpkin: one with a rough exterior for about 13-18 / kg depending on the day. And also the japanese kobacha pumpkin for I think 49 / kg, a sweeter variety.
Now there are not 1 but 2 more varieties, both small and orange:
This one is 22/kg. I tried it out, the whole pumpkin was just 670g. I normally eat pumpkin with skin (blended together) and the taste was quite good.
These ones are even smaller, maybe 300g. I think priced at 30 / kg. Haven't tried them yet.
-----------------
Anyone know the calorie counts of these orange ones? The japanese kobachas are up there in caloreis (60-80 per 100g). Most pumpkins apparenly are in the 20-35 per 100g range. Pumpkin in general is very low calorie. Combined with its cheapness and nutrients, quite an amazing food. I eat about 1kg of it a day.

I'm looking for a barebones stick pc that will just connect to wifi and run a python script all day, anyone know a good source for lower end units? I'm in Pattaya and also glad to shop online.

Looks like 50-80% longer commute time than a bus and once a day service compared to hourly. I think even the Thais will not go for an 80 baht savings for that level of difference.

Hi, anyone know some good kids websites in Thai? I'm looking to work on my reading. Story websites would probably be ideal for this.
-
No, not a teacher. Would prefer something that isn't consistent or fitting of an official capacity or requirement for a work permit.
-
What are some things to volunteer for locally that don't require a fixed schedule (I can only help sporadically)? I saw a charity that needed English teachers for underpriviliged kids but that isn't a good fit since it requires a regular commitment.

Anyone know when the first movie showings are at SF cinemas at the Avenue or Central Festival / Marina?
I was surprised to find SFX at Central Festival to have showings as late as 1am (maybe even 1:30am). CF closes at 11pm but you can make your way up there probably through the parking garage.
-
I'm not used to malls opening so late (11am for Royal Garden and Central Festival. I think Central Marina and Harbor are very close. Tukcom opens at 10am but most shops don't open until 11am). Is this common in other cities in Thailand too? Do the malls start earlier if/when a city grows? I mentioned in the other thread that Big C is closing 2 hours later which is nice, would also be good to see earlier opening malls.

Cape Town, South Africa is running out of water: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-42836560
Makes you wonder about your own part of the world as this problem will surely spread. How does Thailand fare in terms of water usage and water security? Are we at particular risk, or largely ok compared to others?

A local (tiny shop) key maker was able to duplicate my house key but said no to the bike lock key. Anyone know a place that can do most kinds of key duplications?

Hal, what if you were back in your home town and you saw a foreigner driving on the sidewalk?
While the locals were driving tanks down the sidewalk? I'd pay it no mind.

He will be one of many who'd blame a fellow foreigner for staining a sidewalk after being stabbed by a Thai. It's a shame the community is so self hating but that is Thaivisa for you and these types of threads will bring out the anti-foreigner sentiment like no other.
One could of course mention the motorcycle contradiction and watch an Olympic level dodging. Best to just forget it and ignore them IMO.

Anyone know if there's security in that area? Or was she just likely a shopkeeper?

Fast food and retail will be the real battlegrounds which tell us which side is right. If fast food/retail evolves to truly have more personalized service and other yet to be seen features, then maybe there really is a permanent linkage between productivity and employment.
If however these things are found not to bring in new revenues, and irreplaceable layoffs occur in these low level sectors, then that's telling that this time really is different (productivity rises, job growth falls or goes negative)
