  1. Walen over in Chalong, about 200 before the roundabout, left side, going to roundabout.

And a few cheaper options a bit further on. Pier road half way down on the left side and just a little way along viset road is linga plus language school who teach the same course from the same books as patong language school but they also teach reading and writing with it. I recommend linga plus over patong as I've been to both, about 100 meters, if that, heading towards Rawai from the circle on your right. There's also a lady called Joy who comes to teach at your home but I've lost the number, think you can find her with a google search though.

  2. Three times in the last 2 weeks I've used the taxi meter service to chalong, to just past the traffic circle. The first 2 went fine, the price was displayed at the desk, it says 450-500 chalong, 500 both trips. Third Trip i handed over 1000 and he tried to give me only 300 change, I told him its 500 and he said no, chalongs 700. I then started to call the office, but before they even answered he handed over 500 and an evil look. I didn't bother to complain just hung up and no tip for that prick. I should of confirmed the price first, usually they will tell you at the desk before u get in but this time I was busy on the phone and just not paying too much attention. Confirm at the desk before you go and this is the best service to use if you don't want your journey to take forever.

  3. Dunno where about's in central stocks it but you can defo buy Go pro's and attachments downstairs in the Big C shopping centre, next door to central. Theres a gadget type shop on the ground floor, just by the entrance to the underground car park, not sure about the name but i think it could be life or i life, anyway, Its not that big a place and every other shop is a phone shop so your sure to find it. Im not sure if they got the 3rd edition, but if its available they'll be able to order it for you. You can bet your bottom dollar it'll be more expensive than where ever you've seen it before too!

  4. How does the steak and prices compare to DiVinchi that is also near bye?

I love good steak but hard to come by in Thailand.

I personally gave up eating beef in Thailand. I buy a larger pork tenderloin about once a week and it's usually quite good after marinating it for a few hours, then BBQed. The smaller ones are kind of tuff i've found though.

Go give Locanda in Kata a try.

The steaks are great and have quality lamb.

Sams steak house is the only other worthy mentioning along with Brasserie in town.

Only 3 places with proper steaks.

Churasco in junceylon is worthy of a mention, better than Norbus IMO, where is locanda located?

  5. Having just finished my contract in Kazakhstan where i was working and travelling with a lot of Russians over the last year and living in what is now a predominantly Russian soi in Chalong I would have to say that Karen Bravo has hit the nail on the head with the ugly Russian theory about the nouveau riche and the rough working folk from siberia. Especially when they are traveling in packs. Yesterday on my flight back here there was a group from Siberia who cracked open a few litre bottles of whiskey and just passed them round neat. Even though they were wasted and blocking the aisle the staff still served them when the whiskey was gone. As we were waiting for the door to open to get off in Bkk, one of them staggered over to the cabin crew girl with an empty bottle still in hand, said thank you in English then kissed her on the tits! You could put this down to a in flight New years celebration but Ive seen similar stuff on quite a few flights, they don't give a s**t when they've had a drink. Lighting up in the toilet and falling on and annoying other passengers etc. On the other hand most of my neighbours here are fine and seem to be pretty sociable between themselves but they don't mix much. I would also have to add that the food is pretty much terrible!

  6. Gotta recommend Angies next to wine connection on chao fa east in chalong, she will listen and understand what your asking for, unlike a lot here who will just say ok and start cutting even if they don't have a clue what your on about.

  7. If windsurfings your thing then Pattaya is your best option. Here in phuket its better for surfing and kiteboarding but I never see many people on windsurfers here. Jomtiem beach which is about 5 mins from Pattaya beach and walking street ( nightlife area) is supposedly the best place in Thailand for windsurfing, the national team are based there and there is a big competition in dec or Jan I believe. Your budget will go much further there too at any time of year but especially now in high season. Phukets way more scenic got a much more tropical feel to it but getting less so all the time and heading the same way as pattaya which is pretty much just a big city by the sea and has a pretty seedy feel to it IMO. As for nightlife the Clubs are way better up there, If your gonna rent a board you should cut a deal for the month wherever you go to get a better deal, If you bring your own you need to think about how your gonna get it to the beach everyday which could be a nightmare in Phuket unless your staying pretty close by or think you can manage on a motorbike. Hope this helps

  8. A friend of mine has a PCX and he got them fabricated from a gate manufacture you see them around the place.

Nice one, I thought I saw a PCX with some fancy looking rack on a while ago, not the usual style ones on mine and other bikes. I guess that was your mate, cant be many around. Any chance you can find out exactly where he got them made and how they attach on? Im not sure if you have to cut the plastic or not. Or If could go and have a quick look at it? Thanks

Will do he's away in Aus for a week or so. WIll post photos when he's back.

    Thanks mate, much appreciated

  9. I'm really not familiar with the PCX, but was interested what kind of solutions could be found for the OP. Further searches got this, for a Vespa, but I'm sure could work for a PCX also.

This is what I have on my mio already, and pretty much what I'm looking for for a pcx, the difference being the way the hooks attach to the bike. On the vespa and mio and any other bike where the frame doesn't come up between your legs and you have that big space for your feet its pretty straight forward to add a front hook. On a PCX you don't have free space that so Im wondering where it attaches to. The back one just attaches to the grab rail behind the seat, i guess thats just the same. Damaz is gonna post some pics now anyway when his mates back so Im sorted. Thanks for trying anyway and not being a ball bag like britpop : )

  11. Hi, does anyone know where I can get a surfboard rack (ie a couple of hooks) to go on the side of a PCX? I have one on my mio now but I bought that in Bali. Im not sure who makes/sells them in Phuket but I have seen a few knocking around before so im assuming they all didnt come from Bali....anybody??

  12. It appears that the training provider(s) in Thailand have their fees jacked up by the government nearly double the prices of neighboring countries.

The goverment doesnt have a say in the fee's charged, the training providers are private business's. I suspect what may have happened is that the training providers in Thailand are "accredited to" the operators...ie the operators in Thailand only recognise the training provided by certain companies and as such the training providers are trying to gouge people..but certainly the Thai goverment (DMF) has no say over the rates charged

I've just got off the phone with Falck Thailand to see if they had made a mistake in the email they sent me. Bosiet 1 day refresher 30,000 +7% Tax, thats £650 and back in England it costs £195 from the same company. How the <deleted> is this? I ask, I was told their prices are regulated by the government and take into account that you would have to also pay for flights and hotels and stuff if you flew somewhere else to do it. What a Joke TIT!

The prices are not regulated by the goverment, Falck is an independent business, they are BS and gouging you, I suspect what is happening is that they are charging high because this is a price they are charging the operators and getting away with it....What price has MOGIT given you for the 1 day ?...I did my 1 day refresher there just on 3 years ago and no where near THB 30,000

Just had a look at the course prices for the full MOGIT BOSIET-T (OPITO) and the price for the full 3 days is THB 37,000 + VAT,

The price of the 1 day refresher is not stated, but will stand by my statement someone is BS you over the price

    http://www.mogit.org...d205c8baed3.pdf

That link is for the Tropical Bosiet, its a different course. The price for the one day T FOET is stated, its 28,500 + vat http://www.mogit.org/webpage/upload/module_subcourse/title_cms/file_2c70730842d62c149d65ba76e6504c53.pdf

The price for the FOET is also there and is 29,000 + Vat, roughly the same price as Falck Thailand, I was wrong about the Falck uk price though, £195 was what I was quoted on the phone but after checking the website it is £470 inc vat. Still about £160 more expensive to do it in Thailand, and as I was at falck in Samut Prakarn on Thursday doing my FOET and asked about the pricing I can tell you that unless they were telling me bare face lies, the prices are regulated by a governing body which is not opito.

  14. very average and expensive ... you have three excellent Italian in Rawai ...this one is not even close , spent a lot of money hope he has done his sums ....

I am not sure how much money went into it but the construction was low to medium grade at best.

200k plus just for the oven .....

I was referring to the structure. You said the menu items were expensive but do you remember how much for pizzas compared to say MMs or Amalfi as this new one is much closer for me.

Can't remember the price but the pizza I had didn't come close to m&ms. Pretty average at best.

  15. I took a meter taxi from the airport to Rawai a bit over a week ago. I negotiated the price before I got in. 500 Baht. The meter read 400 something Baht.

I took a taxi meter from the airport to the school on the road to Rawai, just past the traffic circle in Chalong last month. I was told 500 bahts, normally its between 430 - 450 so I declined and asked for the meter, sure enough when we stopped the meter was on 500. Anyone else noticed the taxi meter rates creeping up?

  16. I just plug my external hard-drive into the USB port on my TV. As long as the file is avi or divx there is no problem.

Ah, new technology! What TV do you have?

LG and I've had it for at least two years now.

Me too, Its easily the best way, the other thing I sometimes do is plug my macbook into the tv with a HDMI to mini HDMI and stream directly using my magic trackpad as the control. For my old tv in the bedroom I have an iomega screenplay, which is a small box that connects straight to the red white and yellow analogue ports, you can the plug the hard drive into that and It comes with a remote control. Its a bit slow to start up but plays everything ok.

  17. Righto. The guy who ended up with the British Curry Company.

    I believe he went broke.

That was him - thought his curries were making him a fortune ?

No. He had a falling out with the original cook (Rich Starkey) and the cook left to make his original curries at the Curry Shack.

The curries that ended up under the British Curry Company label he cooked himself and were complete <deleted>.

Good to know. I tried one of those brit indian curries earlier this year, I had a takeaway korma. It was like a bowl of manky, watery, soup with a couple of tiny bits of chicken swimming in it, They forgot to give me rice and the nan bread was rock hard. I was in disbelief that they were selling that <deleted> at villa where I discovered it. Anyway, if he's gone bust he deserved too. I'll be sure to try the curry shack when i get back!

  18. anyone know if the shop mentioned cobra watersports is still around ? went down that way and cant find any shop named cobra

That post was 2 years old. Maybe a surfing member can give you an update.

I dont think there is a cobra sign outside but there is a big NSP banner and Its the only surf shop around there. Just a little way down the pier road on the left side. He has a good selection of surf boards and I think he had body boards, skim boards and sup boards also. I bought a Webber afterburner from there last week with 25% discount as the colour has become a slightly off white instead of bright white. An awesome board and the best deal around, and he still has a few left in the back of the shop.

Go and check again, there is a shop there.

  19. Im not sure if i have chalong or rawai cable tv but whatever it is, its almost 100 channels of <deleted>! It just seems to be csi, law and order and flashpoint all day everyday. I have found myself watching a lot of Granada TV since that started. Rod stewart performs daily, 2 year old corras, Jeremy kyle, bit of Ant and Dec. The only thing I really enjoyed was come dine with me but the series has finnished already. Not to worry, laptops connected to the t.v and I can stream anything, but I was wondering if anyone watches tv via a slingbox? Im on my way to the UK now and was thinking about getting one.
