IMO Immigration will use this to reset things to ground zero and clear out all the flotsam. New people coming for up to one month are considered desirable tourists.
That might be immigration talk, but the PM said yesterday the economy was the most important thing right now. Not the threat of people whp arrived on tourist visas starting to form militias or bomb buildings.
I don't think this 'kick people out because of national security' thing will stand up. In the end, I don't see why the government wouldn't extend the amnesty.
I can also see why immigration making a fortune on visa fees wouldn't appear vehemently against an amnesty right now.

The problem is that no one can tell what will happen in the future , whether Countries will either open or close or open aand then close again .
I have gotton a long term visa after being on amnesty on a visa exempt, so, come September 26 th . I will either be annoyed with you for being able to stay longer on the Visa exempt for free and I wasted 50 K, OR , you will be annoyed with me for having a long term visa . ???? ha ha
I won't be annoyed with you, I'll be happy for you. I'm more than happy to leave if I have no other choice.
I think there will be some countries that will definitely be open in September. Maybe in winter things might be different due to covid + flu, but I can't see places like Turkey and Ukraine closing before then.
I don't know why people will be upset if the amnesty is extended. 50K is a small gamble in the grand scheme of things for peace of mind and it will last 5-6 months.

The Cabinet will not announce their next measures until about a week before September 26 th , and IF they dont extend the amnesty , you wont have time to get a long term visa and it would be difficult to get flights out .
I expect the Cabinet to allow another amnesty, only for those who are genuinely stuck here
My backup plan is to ride things out in another country until next year.
I just don't know what countries will be open towards the end of next month, so it's pointless thinking about it until closer to the 26th.
I still think they'll extend the amnesty once everyone on here gets their education and volunteer visas sorted out. Immigration officials will be too busy shopping for new Gucci shirts to give the cabinet any recommendations.

I'm chilling out until the cabinet meeting where they agree to extend the current amnesty until 2021.
I guess I'll just wait to travel to different countries next year when covid dies down.

This one is pretty cool for 50K - https://hand2handcombat.com/ed-visa-service-2/
I think the entire thing is run by military police so very legit.
Only 2 hours Sat and Sun afternoon.

Do they have females in bikinis' on beaches that you can look at ?
Of course, there are liberal (Istanbul, Izmir) and conservative cities.
In beach resorts like Bodrum, Marmaris, and Antalya females will be in bikinis.
But if you don't live on a tropical Thai island I don't see why it matters.
It's a secular country with plenty of alchol and more women are likely to wear hijabs in London.

That's actually not true.
You can apply online for a residence permit that lasts one year once in country. You just need to sign an income declaration, show you have insurance (special companies inside Turkey offer residence permit for around $100), and minor other things.
You'll get an appointment and can stay past your visa until it comes. (different waiting times for different cities)
If you go into a tax office for a tax number (anyone with passport can do this) you can open bank account with tax number, passport, and address on utility bill.
Just as cheap or cheaper than Thailand
Just as delicious food
Areas with temperature similar to Canary Islands in winter (beach resorts)
Apparently very friendly people
Culture (1000yr old sites) that rival Angkor Wat in beauty
More modern and easy to receive mail/buy certain luxuries
Amazing trains/buses/ferries compared to Thailand
Everything from shopping malls, bars/clubs, cinemas, gyms, etc
Own property, land etc outright
I think if lots of people go to Turkey some might decide it's not even worth coming back to Thailand unless you have ties.
Or it would be a great place to stay for a year and ride out Covid at the very least.

Can't sympathise when I'm being kicked out in September.
I don't hear anyone in power (or not in power) asking for tourists to stay.
Maybe it can come back to life in the next decade.

Before going that route though, join the #StayInBali group on FB. Waiting it out in Bali has its own set of visa challenges if the posts on there are any indication.
Maybe the 6 month social visa would be long enough to see people through until the world started opening back up again.

I can’t understand the Thai government’s stance of kicking them out of the country in these terrible times.
If you look closely a lot of airlines are leaving 100% of the time every day now.
Ones like Luthansea, KLM, Finnair, and most of the Middle East ones. All with transits to some great countries.

I thought someone said it cost 2,000 to change to ED visa at immigration when temporary rules came out?
-
I need to get the charging port on my iPad Mini replaced because it's loose/broken and can't charge up.
It's an old Mini 3 I've not used in a while so I don't know if they'll still have the part.
I was going to take it to one of those little computer repair shops to get fixed.
Just wondering if anyone has a rough idea what it costs so I'll know how much they might ask for when I turn up.
Cheers

Are there any schools where you can just study for 3 months and qualify for the ED visa? Or mabye 6 months?
It's pointless taking a 1 year course if you can only stay 6 months.
And in theory, if it's only a 3 month visa your attendence won't need to be great. Wink wink. And if 6 months your attendence will only need to be good for 3 months.

I thought that is why an agent would charge the 17,000 mentioned.
I seen a hospital charged 3,500 for documents, certificates, and cost of extension.
So they would maybe get a bit extra and agent/immigration would split the rest.
-
Does anyone know anything about the medical visa (90 days) I seen someone mention in another post.
I'm wondering what it entails and what documents you need.
The extension for 90 days seems about the same price as flight back to Europe.
Cheers

Thirty-two international flights departed SBIA/BKK yesterday.
Ten international flights have departed today, up to 15:00-ish, with another nine scheduled for the remainder of today.
That AoT website is useless.
Sunday's are the busiest.
Where do you need to go?
Chances are good you could get a flight there within the next 7 days, perhaps as early as tonight.
Can you tell me the website where you're getting your information?
I'll use it to check what airlines seem to be more reliable and come up with a plan of action.
Cheers.

You could have gone QR via Doha early this morning, taken EVA direct to London yesterday afternoon and tonight could also hop over to Amsterdam on KLM.
EVA have had 3/4 flights cancelled 03/04.
I could have put all my money on black and had a better chance of winning.
I can't believe people who don't need to leave are even posting in these threads if it's not to help. Actually, I do. Forget what I just said ????.

Can anyone show where international flights are leaving daily or are you just talking rubbish?
https://aot-portal.kdlab.dev/bkk
That website says every flight that isn't cancelled is domestic.

I already know Turkey, Ukraine, and probably Georgia will be open and pretty cheap to stay.
Maybe Bali, Nepal, and Sri Lanka too.
So I'm sure I'll get somewhere to ride this thing out for longer.
But in September there should be a more definitive list.

I will wait until middle of September to see where is open.
Maybe we should start a thread at the beginning of September talking about all the options available.

Do you think it would be possible to use an old embassy letter to get an extension towards end of September.
I asked for one the last time but didn't need to use it in the end.
It's very generic and just says when my last visa ran out and asks if they can please give me an extension.

28 minutes ago, ubonjoe said:There is no difference between an amnesty and a grace period.
It is really the same ministerial notice issued in April that allows for automatic extensions that has been extended once already.
I know what you mean but can think of one small difference.
Grace period = get out before 26th September
Amnesty extension = no need to book flights out just yet. It might be extended again or at least you'll be given an extra X days to leave country.
Hopefully it's the second one.

End of visa amnesty may spell uncertainty for some expats in Thailand
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
And applying for residence permit online before end of 30 days costs around $85 (plus $100 insurance) for 12 months.
