  1. Thank you all for the replies, I didn't expect to get so much feedback. It seems the consensus is that it is not over priced so my question has been answered, also I feel my mind to be somewhat clearer on the matter now from all the responses so that's great.

Kinda edging towards going ahead with it then, I'll update this thread if I do but its may be some time away, one again thanks for all the useful replies :-)

Koh Som is "for sale", triple check required.

  2. Perhaps the OP should go to Haad Rin on KP....

Why should people around Chawang and within ear shot have to endure pounding music all night long?

Because the "pounding music all night long" was there before the foreign people moved in we just celebrated Raggae Pub's 28th anniversary last Friday (12th), Green Mango is the younger kid at only 27.

Organised Full Moon Parties at Sunrise Beach, Haad Rin which probably should be renamed "Moonrise Beach" only began about same time; the official story says 1985, but according to those who were party guests then, there were no organized parties, just a few hippies on a deserted beach making bonfires and plying guitars. The "true" story has recently been told by one who was there when it all began. Samui was the backpacker target and the hippies party place, the closest to a kind of club was in Lamai at that time. Only three-four hundred people lived at KP, but it became an event to hire a long tail boat departing from Nathon and sail over to the empty jungle beach there was no other way to get there than walk by cost-line during low tide or hiking over the mountains and see the full moon rise, make a bonfire and play guitar and sing and... whistling.gif

PS: Wish I'd been around at that time...rolleyes.gif

The first Full Moon parties began on Koh Som, the small island off Ban Rak. They lasted for over a year when someone recalled a visiting Royal sometime in the past declared the island should be used by the locals for recreation only and that is why there are no resorts there either.

That's why I find it strange that Koh Som is for sale now, the American owner of Petcherat Marina claims it's his Thai wife's property, here's the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/petcherat.kohsamui/

  3. In a way - they are correct .

The virus exists in mosquitoes or in humans- there is no evidence that the virus can be found in other animals.

At the moment there has only been one case reported in the Kingdom.

So if you think about it- unlikely there will be an epidemic at the moment.

Japanese tourist staying in Samui was diagnosed with Zika on returning home.

Can you provide a link to this information?

Is it alleged the tourist contact the virus whilst in Samui ?

No, don't remember in which Asian paper I read it,

Yes, contacted the virus in Samui according to the Japanese authorities.

  5. Amazing how hundreds if not thousands have come on here like blind sheep and done everything in their power to discredit the RTP in this case.

This whole Thaivisa witch hunt was based on nothing more than rumours and innuendos with very few of us disagreeing or at least thinking "Hey wait a minute maybe it was these guys"

Even now when the family who were in the court unlike the members of Thaivisa who haven't got a clue what went on the witch hunt continues.

Talk about Thais not wanting to lose face.........have a look at yourselves and at least admit perhaps you were wrong

What would happen if they take a look at themselves?

The have spent over a year building up their moral identity around the "fact" that Wei Phyo and Zaw Lin are innocent scapegoats, that they have been wrongfully accused of a crime and anyone who disagrees with that are evil people trying to get "the real killers" away with the murders of Hannah Witheridge and David Miller.

Time and time again they have piled up on anyone that didn't buy their narrative, if you didn't believe as they did you were protecting the real murders, a shill, a scumbag, etc, etc... Looking at themselves to see that they've been wrong all along, that they are the ones that have been protecting murderers and rapists and that they are the ones that have wrongfully accused people of horrible crimes?

Not going to happen, the emotional investment is too high for that, they need the two Burmese men to be innocent and they need a scapegoat (AKA "the real killers") to take away their sins, to make it all right, to justify all that they have said and done.

In short, recognizing the reality of the situation and looking back at themselves would reveal that they are what they've been hating all along.

So better to stick their fingers in their ears, repeat "it's all lies, it's all lies!" and run back into the safe space of their echo chamber were they are still the good guys fighting for a noble cause.

  6. I do hope that the victims families are reading this thread.

They will think that justice has been served, but more than likely to innocent people.

Actually, regardless of what we on this thread might THINK, the family has had more access to evidence and police than any of us here. None of us on this thread have been in the courtroom.

While I've been of the opinion that they got the wrong guys, who are any of us here to say that the family is mistaken. They have followed this case much closer than ANY of us here.

The family also may have talked to Scotland Yard which had no authority to say or do anything in Thailand.

Something has caused the family to believe the two are guilty. I'm not privy to what that is.

    Cheers.

  7. The General rightly is concerned about national security, Rohingya can become a real problem in South Thailand. It is so obvious.

I don't think it is Thailand's role to look after Rohingya, given that there are a number of Muslim neighbor countries that seem much better suited than Thailand's south where Muslim separatists want to create their own sultanate. I'm sure it is an easy thing to promise the Rohingya that there will also be a place for them in the future sultanate...

Closing Thailand's borders to Rohingya is the right thing to do - maybe Thailand could look into creating some no-man's lands on the border and provide some basic supply and services there.

the separatists want to restore their sultanate that's colonized

  8. Just wondering, how good is this for tourism? Some may flee immediately, some may stick around, but how about their stories when they go home? Would anyone make the place their destination for beach activities after being clued in as to what goes on? Lots of beaches in lots of countries thus I don't think this will be luring tourists to Thailand. But, I'll bet it's good for tourism to Viet Nam, Philippines, etc.!

I remember 2004. All the tourists came running over to Samui from Phuket with "great" stories to tell.

I also remember when Bangkok was burned down a few years ago. The next day 2 tourists were in the water at chaweng beach next to me. One mentioned that something had happened in bangkok, and then they ordered another beer :-)

And yes, the waitresses at the hotels will serve beer on the beach. They take the fresh beer to the waters edge, and bring back the one you just drank. They keep an eye out too, so you can order by waving your hand. Excellent service. Tips are appreciated!

I remember the guests of the Imperial Hotel fleeing the island after they were robbed at gunpoint at the hotel.

  9. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

So 1 chap gets murdered and the "authorities" worry about the negative impact on tourism, and then, launch a full airbourne assault with 700 army an police personell. Oh course the later action will re-assure everyone!

You do not know apparently how deep the mafia network stretches in Koh Samui. The whole place is run by local mobsters and nobody even farts without approval.

It is not the first time rival mafia members have killed one another on the island. It could be a huge sweep to root out the mob.

    And neither do you.

Big public companies from Bangkok and some local ones run the business end of Samui, and they fart all they want.

But yes some local gangster types try to fight over the usual grey area businesses such as bars, taxis, jetskis, drugs and to an extend real estate.

the Thai owner of a large supermarket killed in a similar way sitting in a "local" bar in Chaweng beachroad 15 years ago....or the plain public killing of Tato, owner of several bars and massagerooms in Lamai in 2005..., small fish...the 2 farang in a quarrel about the payment of a rented motorbike, the farang restaurant owner 2 years ago..."local" gangster types all over the island and the mainland, gunmen hired by big business owners, operating in the open, policemen involved, money extortion from foreign and Thai businessmen, remember all those foreigners fleeing the island and those killed who didn't pay up, all the murders never reported...

  10. There damned if they do and damned if they don't hey!!!!!

Its about time someone stood us to these Mafia groups and here we go ..... Prayut Stiley... Top Man... Hats off to you. Now go back to Koh Tao and sweep up the scum line along the beach. Start in Sairee.

Far better for 700 to go in than a 100 than the rest sit on their backsides. Puts all the islands on notice and please no scapegoats get the real scum cleaned out and let Thailand heal itself.

15 years ago coming to this country the level of intimidation ,violence, scams and corruption was nothing like it is today. Frankly many I talk to want to move on its got past a joke and I'm talking about

younger Thai's and foreigners not bar stool philosophers.

the owner of the reggae pub left many years ago, scared to go out, on many occasions police officers at the house.....not to mention the murders of the '90's never reported and the farangs that were shot down.
