  1. I am shifting to Pattaya for 3 months begining of August and need a one bedroom apartment in a quiet area, it is for my wife and myself, we are a "Farang" couple who own our own properties at home and know how to look after a place.

I work offshore and will be absent for 50% of the time so the apartment must have good security, be close to transport, pool, pleasant surroundings (greenery for she who must be obeyed),  TV (UBC), and Internet would be nice.

I know there are any amount of web site listings available but offer the opportunity  to any TH.Visa viewers interested in considerate tenants.

Try looking at Diana Resort. Has all at reasonable price. Diana has many prop so be sure its DIANA RESORT.

  2. Either the date is wrong on your camera or you have been puzzling over this for over 3 years

Date was actually two days ago. I took the pic and the guys unloading the truck were puzzled. I asked them why S/R man look at her crotch. They already knew what I was talking about and had as good a laugh as I did.

Sorry about the date on pic but can not change on cheap camera and do not know how to use photo shop software.

  3. OK Guys,

Let me spell it out to you.

The guy is rescuing this lady. He is not looking at her face to check her breathing etc. He is looking at her CROTCH!

Maybe he wants to revive her crotch!!!!!!!!!!! :o

This decal is all over Thailand!

  4. BigTex,

A good plan of action would be to go to the locations you are interested in. Lets say Shinookvile and spend some serious time there just observing. You gather info from falang owners and get a good feel for what you might want. Many business fail, I am sure you can pick up one on the cheap. If you spend some time there first you still have the option of doing nothing.

I have heard and seen many failures. Timing and luck will carry more weight than you might think. There arent that many Americans there with a business and I think there is a good reason for that.

My own personal opinion is that if you have a small business and keep your head down then you might scrape by. If you are very successful then someone will come after you.

  5. Search and Rescue

Has everyone seen the Search and Rescue decal on many Thai emergency vehicles around Thailand?

Did you ever look at length and wonder what the guy holding the gal is looking at.

Has he got rescue on his mind?

    You decide,

    LLL :o

Boy this is a disgusting topic me thinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. All,

Have had the same experience many times but have some other angles for you to ponder.

Maybe he doesnt speak your language. He doesnt want to make an effort.

Maybe he is trying to get lost into another world and doesnt want to be found.

Maybe he is from some metropolitan area where rip off is rampant.

Maybe he thinks you are comming on to him in a sexual way.

  8. Apologies If what I write has been touched on already but I have not read the whole post....

I have seen both Farang and Thai version of this report on the news and as usual, the farang version was carefully edited :D

On the thai version it appeared that the guys injuries looked more sinister than injuries sustained from falling from a condo :o

It looked like he had been stabbed several times as well

HELLCOP YOUR ON THE WRONG THREAD. THIS IS NOT A JUMPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. All,

Spent alot of time trying to use Airasia booking with Credit card etc. The error messages are not always correct as to your problem.

Try putting in your telephone number like you are calling from out of Thailand.

I had good results after that.

  10. All,

I am no expert however I have an opinon.

I have traveled through steep mountains a number of times with these buses and observed what the crew is doing. During steep mountain trips they have stopped the bus for a while to let the brakes cool down. They are checking the levels of brake fluid etc.

As I understand when there is a leak the brake fluid that is under pressure can become flamable at that leaking point. So here is the situation. Overheated because of the mountain road, a leak up front with the brake fluid and resulting fire. Then it spread rapidly in the front area of the bus where the DOOR is located.

That day I bet was very hot and at the start of the hot season when all potential heat problems will be tested.

Do not know if these buses have emergency breaks or not.

If only they had been able to break the window early on and gotten out.

Must have been hel_l on earth.

    RIP

  11. All,

Before Bangkok Radio was promoted by this web site. Then it was hard to find. Now all I can come up with is some international monopoly that has completely dismantled this fine community service. Somebody please tell me I am completly wrong and guide me to the old or new program.

    thx

  12. All,

I have been spending a few days in Chang Rai and Mai Sai. Smoke has visability down to 1 mile. Mild irritaion of eyes and throat. Fires are still being set on the road side highways. The wind is virtually nonexistent.

My take on this is that the natives here are doing what they always have. It is the season to set fires. The reason it is so bad is the weather conditions not disipating the smoke.

  13. Here is how I try to handle these panhandlers:

When they first approach beat them to the greetings by asking them for money. You have to be on your toes for this method. Have your own story etc.

Another method is to tell them you have no money. You might point to your pockets etc. When they ask to see in your pockets you have them. You then ask to see all their stuff in their pockets and bags. If they are legit then they will not have money etc.

    Hope this helps,

  14. Dude,

The train is a good method for moto bike transport. Several train crew will lift the bike into the bageage car and secure. It doesnt cost all that much. Pattaya to BKK and BKK to down south. Then ride the bike to ferry etc.

My general rule is I rent a bike on location as it saves a heap of planning. Leave the bike at home unless you are staying at your destination for months.

This is also the best time of year to travel on a bike. So travel all the way down!

You also might check the travel agents and if they dont provide service then ask WHO DOES.

  15. Remember the critics who said the airport is being built on a swamp. Well here we are. This may not be as bad as it made out to be. Here is another opportunity for the contractors to add to this project. Patch the current runways and also start new runway projects. Make work is a way of life in Thailand. Just over spec these new runways so that it would be OK to float on water. Sky is not falling.

  16. All,

10 yr ago on soi Post Office I did a real lady for B100. Never thought anything bad about it. She said she needed to pay the rent.

Today I would "think to much" about going with some one like that.

  17. All,

Having crossed NK/V boarder round trip twice in two weeks and a hundred times befor that.....I feel qualified to comment on some of this.

I think the Loas see the writting on the wall: Fewer falangs will visit Loas because of boarder crossing for visa runs drying up. The fee increase is an example of this. Now $35 for US and probally 36 on weekends.

When the guy stated he filled out the forms himself he agrivated the officers and they called on the LADY who speaks good english to come down and sort out the problem. They like to look in charge and you sound lucky.

There seems to be less traffic into the Thai consulate and the Loas are probally seeing less money in their pocket as a result. Getting ripped off in Laos is rampant and I think it is getting worse.

The Laos in Thailand are finding tighter restrictions on their passage as well.

Lets blame the overall security by controll nuts as the root cause of these problems. Orders at the top probally caused this tightening and restructuring the payments of tea money has caused problems to filter down to the unsuspecting tourist.

It is by chance that you have no problems........

  18. Has availability changed in Phnom Penh? About three years ago I went for a three month tourist visa at the PP Thai consulate. Two falangs in waiting room with about 20 asians which was quite a change from the Vienchien consulate. This was right after the embasy had burned in PP.

The officer would not give me a 3 month tourist visa and had written on my application additional requirements. Thai bank account with a large figure (forgot) and prof of residency. I asked if I could do an endless boarder run to Popiet and was told YES.

The other guy applying for an O visa sounded like he was a lawyer as he quoated Thai law to get his Visa. They acted like they did not want to issue him a visa but finally did.

Guess things could be different but I dont know anybody who has been there recent.

  19. 407 bus company runs many times day and night. Get a taxie to the bus station in Pattaya out on the Sukhumvit highway near Central. If in Udon go to the main bus staion and look for the 407 bus company. Make two trips....one to buy your ticket well in advance, you get to pick you seat. Then pack your bags and go to bus staion at required time. These buses can fill up especially around the holidays. You can request a bus that has a toliet.

    good luck

  20. Please spend some time to clarify (I will not cause inconvinence, but think if people decide to get to Nong Khai - based on your posting - and than find themself at closed border gate..).

PLEASE! Again to all of you out there - has anyone personally done the trip to nong Khai during the last 3 days? Please share your knowledge with us - thanks.

    NK/V boarder is open today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    did a 30 day run

  21. Other points that have not been brought up are:

The Burmese Immigration collects all passports when crossing that boarder and you are able to collect it with your receipt after shopping etc. If you return to Thai ASAP no receipt required.

You could cross back as a wetback but you would leave your passport!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you have a Visa you are on a day pass. Any overstay should have a fine.

Some points to ponder if you have limited money.
