  1. Hi.

I have spent hours looking this up. I did read an article once, but i cannot remember where i read it. i have combed the internet for the statistics.. i know they are very high indeed, and i am trying to put something in place to safeguard these kids.

There is a huge increase of abductions, murders, rape and total disappearances of children of all age ranges in Thailand. Especially where the harvesting of human body parts for underground transplants is concerned. It is a grisley realisation and this needs to be looked at and a solution found to stem it as much as possible.

I know in this report i read a few weeks or maybe months back, that internet chat rooms and social media platforms are actively being used to select and groom a child for sinister purposes.

So if anyone has any thoughts on this issue, i would be glad to hear them. Also if anyone can please help me find the true statistics, I am out of ideas of how to find them.

I am only just starting the research phase of my project that will be revealed shortly.

    Thank You.

  2. Get them to send it marked

    'FOR REPAIR... TO BE RETURNED'

and of course a return address for credibility purposes. You will be amazed at the amount of things i got through duty free, by using this tactic.

If the watch is battery powered, get them to turn the battery upside down to disable it, if it is hand-wound it will probably be run .down by the time it gets here.

  3. OK.

I started this topic a few days ago on koratfarang and it seemed to get a good response, so i will start it here and see how it goes.

    Please keep it on-topic. :)

This is starting to drive me crazy. Up till now i have been very tolerant of it, but i am now starting to get a little more than humpty about it.

This could just be something that is confined to the immediate Thai family I am involved with, meaning my girlfriend and her family and friends. But there seems to be a very big superstition culture that basically dictates how they (and me) live their lives.

to just touch on two points among many..

I can not put my bed where the aircon hits it, I have to wait for the whole room to cool before i can get the benefit from it... this is a feng sui thing.

Secondly, i want to put some colour in the garden and want to fix some lattice to the wall and have some climbing roses, as well as some other beautiful flowers that i spotted. i have been told that i can't have either, because flowers with thorns or any plant that has spikes, will bring trouble to those that live in the house.

These are only 2 of many superstitious hindrances i have come across here.

i am in no way knocking the Thai culture, and for many months i soaked all this up with a smile on my face, but now these strange restrictions are starting to pile up and i am wondering why and how can all this have meaning.

I am used to living in a more carefree environment, where people have superstitions, but i never knew anyone who lived their lives by a code dictated by them.

Probably most reading this will not be of the same situation as me at this moment.

It would be interesting to hear what other members of the forum have to say on this.. What are the most absurd superstitions you have heard in LOS and which ones do you have to go along with (if any).

  4. The way I read the OP, the Thai consulate in Vientiane only takes into consideration the number of visas that have been issued to the applicant (date of via issue) during the last 365 days, this being the least time-consuming way, ie they look neither at the number of entries he made into Thailand, nor at the number of extensions of stay he obtained, nor the total number of days he stayed in Thailand during that 12-month period.

That is correct... the number of visas is what is at issue... the number of days present in the country is totally irrelevant.. Basically.. the earliest of the last 3 in your passport, they will check the expiry date... and if it is with 12 months to the date then it is classed as having 3 used visas in that rolling 12 month period. So they will go back 3 visas and look at the expiry date... beyond 12 moths prior to the date of checking... means an 'all clear' and a re-issue... but if the expiry is within the past 12 months... then it is a 'goodbye, come back later'.

  5. I refer to the following sentances as stated by the OP:

"The exact details of the double entry restrictions are 3 in a rolling 12 month period.

If your last 3 double entries extend beyond 12 months, then you are entitled to another one."

Sorry, i might be a little slow, but to me the two sentances sort of contradict each other.

Specifically, would'nt 3 double entries in a rolling 12 month period represent a total stay of 18 months, if all entries were extended?

I dont really get where does the 12 months issue comes into it?

Please Mario, can you explain this a little further?

Does it suggest that if you have used three previous double entries, then you need to go stay in your own country (or somewhere else) for at least another 6 months, before attempting to get another double entry to Thailand?

I presume that someone who arranges a double entry from their own country, gets another 1 in Vientane on completion of that (representing a 12 month stay) THEN go stay in your own country for six months THEN repeating the process again, would be acceptable?

Thanks and sorry for my thickness!

I believe there are circumstances where a foreigner may only get 2 months on a 60 day double entry... Such as the following. If the applicant stayed 7 weeks and then left the country for whatever unexpected reason and failed to re-enter before the 60 days expired for whatever reason, then that visa would be dead and count as 1 visa used. Then you would be on strike 1 after just 8 weeks, and if it should happen again, then that would be strike 2 in just 16 weeks and so on... Everyone has extenuating circumstances and border hopping habits that are unique to themselves.

Another and more common occurrence may be that a week after getting your visa, you may have to briefly jump out of LOS and thus triggering the second entry way prematurely.

Obviously immigration has to either set limits or make the system limitless. The rules change regularly.

I am nearing the end of my second because of unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances and i have only been getting them since Sept last year... so have to make sure that i extend, and then make sure i use my full 6 months on the last one. Lets hope nothing else crops up between now and Sept.

But I suppose in theory, in the right circumstances, a foreigner can get unstuck on their visa issues because of their individual habits and circumstances...

But like i said earlier.. they are probably going to review the rules next month.. probably within a week of the 5th march... That came from the mouth of the Viantienne Embassy staff.

  6. I have started this new thread rather than stick it on the end of the

Vientane Double Visa: Three Strikes And You'Re Out! thread.

If I stick it on the end of the original thread... many people will not see this info, and everyone concerned ought to read this...

My Thai girlfrind has just got off the phone to the Thai embassy in Vientiane. According to them, there is NO rule in force at that embassy saying 3 strikes and you are out...

They said that if you ring them up before making the trip and tell them exactly what the status of your past visas in your passport, they will tell you to either come up or don't bother.

The exact details of the double entry restrictions are 3 in a rolling 12 month period.

If your last 3 double entries extend beyond 12 months, then you are entitled to another one.

When you call, you must get the person's name who you talk to and make sure that they take a record of your name and passport number. This will ensure that you will be given one and your trip is NOT wasted. This is of course only applicable if they said you are clear to come.

Just make sure you get the extensions and you will always qualify.

They also said that the rules are expected to change again next month and they will probably be told to stop counting stamps.

Jusr editing to add the phone number... here you go.

  7. Hi.

    I have a complex question.

I hold a 15% stake in a legally registered Thai limited partnership, with my full name and details on the register.

I did not have to show any investment as the 70% stakeholder is a Thai citizen. The other 15% is my Aussie partner.

I have been told by immigration that it is OK to attend meetings and be able to guide my 70% Thai stakeholder as a means of 'overseeing' my interests here in Thailand, and it is OK to do this on a tourist visa, so long as i do no hands on work.

I am currently on a 60 day double entry visa, which is normally good for 6 months. But my next one will be my third, and according to reports (my last) entitlement.

I am also living in the interior, and pretty far from any border, so, border runs and visa runs are a hassle, and i have my eye on trying to get a non immigrant 'B' visa.

Firstly, would I be entitled to one of these, so i am covered for 12 months? Also, would I have to set up a minimum amount of funds in a bank account to show immigration?

Thank you in advance for your help on this issue.

  8. I have always said that LOS is actually a LOJ (Land Of Jokes).

In this case it's rather LOGJ (Land Of Grim Jokes).

Cases like this are not endemic to Thailand only, except for the 'Justice' treatment.

Good luck to the dead mans friends, but I am very sceptical :jap:

It is the NatWest Bank that seem to be funding this animal's escape to freedom. All the money coming from that account is going straight into the pockets of the corrupt Thai Police who will facilitate the eventual freedom.

If I was a member of his UK family, i would be making this a cause-celeb naming and shaming that bank in every public media that i possibly could.. His account should be frozen.. the guy is dead and his money is being pilferred away by his murderers. The Thai banks can freeze it, the offshore banks can freeze it. Why not the bank from his native land?... The British police on request from the British Embassy in BKK should action the asset freezing. but No.... Why??

If this income stream becomes severed, then i will guarantee that justice will resume its course.. if not, this person is as free as a bird.

  9. This is an opportunity of a lifetime.

We are a very young internet entrepreneurial company with a single fixed goal.... To change the face of the internet in Thailand.

Thailand is currently running at approximately 8 years behind the EU and USA as far as web based concepts are concerned. This means that there is a huge gap in the market that needs to be filled, and our list of online projects will serve to pull the Thailand internet experience into line with the west. We are currently based in Korat, but this appointment is possible to do in a remote capacity, should the candidate not wish to re-locate initially.

There may not be the need to re-locate, as we are quite comfortable with opening a second office in a separate part of the Kingdom.

We are currently on the lookout for an experienced telesales/telemarketer.

The ideal person will be able to speak English, and will have a great outgoing personality and also possess a lot of confidence while handling sales calls. Full training in the company products will be given. Candidate will also have a knowledge of sales and/or marketing.

For the right candidate we will pay a basic salary plus generous commissions with the ability to earn well in excess of 50000 OTE a month if good.

We have a data sheet of 9000 leads, once complete (approx 4 months) The candidate will receive full internet marketing training, and will be given a team to train and run as Senior Sales & Marketing Manager with a basic 40000 per month plus commissions on every sale from your team (Expected to be over 100,000 per month).

As we expand, so long as you have reached targets, then a seat on the board of Directors will be offered, along with all the benefits.

We are a new company and we want to grow together, we do not believe in pulling outsiders into top positions, and we always promote from the floor up.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Please PM me for further details. Will be required to travel to Korat for an interview. Also the successful candidate will be required to attend a 3 day trade event in Bangkok in mid-Feb.

Please pm me for further details

  10. You refer to businesses that are "farang run" but i would hardly think there is any point in looking for these registrations as they would most probably be in a Thai nationals name anyway.

I stand corrected, but i would think in most cases where farangs claim to "own" small business here you will find it is actually 100% owned by their Thai wives..and in some of those cases the farang husband could be running the gauntlet of working illegally if he has anything to do with the actual day to day running of the business.

Thats of course, if, err, other arrangements havent been taken care of.

Thank you for your reply, I am well aware of all that. The reason i indicated that a lot have farang involvement somewhere in the business, is purely to justify posting this on a farang webboard. I am not looking for farang owned tour operators, i am looking for a list of every tour operator in the industry regardless of who owns or runs it. I am merely hoping that a farang who is in the industry will read this and hopefully has the information at hand for me.

    But thanks anyway :)

  11. They are mostly illegal, and rightfully the Thais have a cause for concern... Are most of you forgetting that this is Thailand and Thai people come first as far as jobs and industry goes. be respectful of the country that is playing host to you, never disrespect your host. Would you be so quick to open the doors to anyone and everyone in your home country, and agree that they are entitled to just push your own native countrymen to one side?. I doubt it very much.

I will edit to add this also.... The vast majority of members of this forum seem to knock Thailand, its government and the Thai people all day long. it is apparent in almost every post, even posts that do not point to Thai 'inadequacy' always seems to get around to having a dig at Thai people or some aspect of the country. My advice is to pack you suitcase up and head off to your own country and see how much you enjoy living there... oh, you don't like living there do you??? that's why you live here.

  12. I know that there is higher than nominal percentage of farang run tour operator companies operating in Thailand, so i am hoping someone from the industry can enlighten me. I have a website launching in the next few weeks and was wondering if someone can give me some guidance on how I can get my hands on a list of all registered tour operators and agents in the Kingdom.

Does anyone know of a national registration office for this type of business? I know it is a huge industry, and i know that you do have to register and hold a license to sell or run tours whether they be domestic tours within Thailand or group tours to any country/countries outside of Thailand.

I have had a good scrape around the internet, but a lot of these websites are in Thai language, and so information is difficult to come by.

If there is anyone who can shed a little light on this for me, i would be eternally grateful.

    Thanks in advance.

  13. I was at the Immigration centre today and spent an hour dawdling about while things got done blah blah blah....

Now while I am sat bored, looking at nothing special, I found myself 'people watching', and noticed a farang guy, who looked to me like he was in his late fifties who was dressed more like he was in his early twenties. It was then that I started to unconciously draw comparisons. When I say 'unconsiously', I mean that it wasn't deliberate or formulated, but more as a product of this strange sight.

I started looking at all the farangs mingling about the place going about their business, and I became drawn to assessing each person's dress sense, both Thai and farang.

I noticed that the vast majority of farangs dressed at least half their age in terms of what I would normally expect. In comparison, Thai people seemed to dress with their age.

Trying to break this down in my head and search for a reason, I also noticed that most farangs had their womenfolk with them, assisting in form filling and translation etc... The alarming fact that stood out to me, is that all farangs seemed to dress the same age style as their female companion.

Tell me... Who does the clothes shopping??

I am sorry if this may offend anyone, but I have come to the conclusion that a lot of farangs dress to look ridiculous probably without knowing it. Just because they have a girl on their arm that is 25 years their junior dosn't mean to say that they are the same age.

I will give an example. In the Mall in Korat a week ago, I walked past a guy who was clearly over 60 with a girl sat next to him I would place in her mid to late twenties. The guy was rocking a pushchair (stroller) with what i presume contained their child. The guy should have been dressed by Dunn & Co, but looked more like he had just ransacked Quicksilver (surf dude shop). He probably thought he could pass for late 30s, but he just looked like a ridiculous looking over 60.

I have quite a way to go before I am around that age, (20 years). If someone sees me dressing like that, kindly kick my arse ... back into reality.

You will be fully in command of the Chinese market with exclusivity of the region.

    PM for details

  15. I suppose he will escape prison here, as it is more ecconomical to send him to the UK who the over-burdoned taxpayer will foot the entire costs of his repatriation, court case and prisonn stay at more than ?900 a week. With his colour TV in his cell and internet access in the prison library. Not to mention 3 meals a day asnd coffee on Sundays.

Only to be released far too early (probably less than 2 years) for good behaiviour, and then the taxpayer will have to foot the bill of constant probation, and community resettlement with a nice council apartment, fully furnished and weekly pension in excess of ?100.

I wouldn't be surprised he if has a legitimate claim to his back pension to his 65th birthday.

What I want to know... Is how, if he has been on the run from the UK since 1998. Did he manage to get his passport renewed?? The maximum validity of a passport is 10 years. So how has ha been able to live here for 12 years?

I suppose he was not bothering with Visa runs like everyone else. I think he should be put in prison here to serve out a long sentence before being extradited back to the UK to do his cushy term. I hope they separate him from his balls, i hope they kill him in thai prison.. save everyone a lot of trouble and expense.

What the hell are the British home Office thinking of?huh.gif... The Foreign Office have a hand in this as always.. they will do everything in their power to prevent a british citizen from spending any time in a foreign prison, because of the human rights abuses etc etc....

    WAKE UP!!!

  16. Cheers to the Thai police for finding him in less than 3 weeks from when the arrest warrant was issued. Hope that they do keep him here. The treatment in a Thai prison is what he deserves.

With an extradition treaty between the United Kingdom and Thailand already in place, (see the following ref) http://www.siam-lega...om-thailand.php I find it dificult to understand why it took so long to trace and arrest this beast...:realangry:

Dude your missing the point here. The other post from venturalaw was a good statement. It only took the Thai police 3 weeks to find the beast after the "Arrest warrant was issued from the UK". This treaty you talk about does not make the Thai police super heros, it doesnt mean that they start to investigate farangs here in Thailand. It just means tha the treaty states that if the UK has known citizens that are wanted back in the UK that they can ask the Thai police to help issure an arrest warrant.

I think the Thai police did a wonderful job finding the beast in a Country with a population of 67,764,000

Actually, the Thai report is a bit more informative than the English report..

It states that this guy was working from a post office box in korat.

The police had been waiting in that post office for more than a week, until he finally showed up and was arrested on the spot.

The fact remains, anyone under suspiciaon of what i would rate as a crime of a high degree, should definately not be holding a passport. Also, this story is posted on koratfarang, and one guy actually knows the suspect, he was working in a school for god knows how many years. The police raided his home here, and found his PC and DVDs in his posession with many images of Thai children (including babies), naked and in compromising positions.

I think it is a big thumbs up for the Thai authorities to be able to track and trap this predator in 2 weeks. On the same sentiment, with all the surveylence technology in the UK, they just let this prick wander off with his passport and suitcase on an open-ended holiday. What a bunch of incompetent morons. 12 years to send a file to the Thai authorities.. they probably even issued him a new passport at the British embassy in BKK. I wouldn't even be surprised if he has been drawing his poension here for the past 18 months.. Or is that how they found him eventual;ly??... Did someone in the home office manage to find the right button on his PC??

But to issue an extradition request along with the request for his apprehension... well it beggers belief.

As for Igor's comment and compassionate commentabout the guy needing help... Sorry mate, it is a scientific fact that paedofelia is very easy to switch on in someones mind, and near impossible to switch off. He is 66 and has a history, he knew exactly where to run to from the UK, it was calculated. He ran the the most popular haven and holiday resort in the world with easy access for nonses. He is sick alright, but with an incurable illness, and once he escaped justice, he reoffended. Case closed... send him to a thai insane asylum if he is considered mentally ill, and not a criminal. I think it is probably worse than prison anyway.

  17. I have been here for 7 months now, and I love everything about Thailand, especially the food. But every now and then, I really miss certain things about home, which is especially certain foods. I have tried getting ingredients together and making my own, etc. Which is nice. Also, i have visited a few Farang establishments, but nobody does it like you can get it from home.

    The things I most miss.

Proper fish and chips from a fish shop.

A nice big chicken and lamb mixed doner kebab after a few beers on a Friday night

A proper sunday roasty with big Yorkshire puddings and rich thick gravey.

Believe it or not, i even miss my favourite Thai restaurant, the food is totally different there, obviousy catering to the British taste buds.

lamb casserole with mint and rosemary.

Fish fingers, proper homecooked chips and mushy peas.

Corned beef and onion pasties. (indigestion)

Sorry if i'm making anyone suffer ;)

And before the keyboard warriors attack and try to tell me my diet is going to drive me to an early grave.. i actually eat mostly salads and good wholefoods, but these are the things i miss.

Also.... before everyone shouts "Go Home then" .. "No, it's too much to give up for a few meals"

    Ahh well... one day.

  18. An alledged alcoholic with a history of violent assault is found dead.

It seems that the lack of a prosecution was due to corrupt Police accepting a bribe. May be a prosectuion would have helped turn his life around. Put the brakes on him. Put him 'in the system' and help to curb his wanton behaviour. But the Thai way doesn't work that way. Money is god. Money is taken and the welfare of an ill man is ignored.

Then fast forward to the alcoholic buying a venomous snake and taking it home. Needn't have happened then. But it did.

Any error whether sober or drunk with any one of Thailand's most venomous snakes would lead to death. Then there are the not so venomous snakes which could still kill you depending on the circumstances.

So what were the circumstances? It seems he was alone when bitten, unable to call for help and most likely unable to help himself.

The discussions on cobra bites are well meant. However, any cobra will kill you. One, quite easily, the other depending on how much venom it venomates - injects into you. Again consider the circumstances; a calm, rational individual with knowledge would react to remove the snake quickly. That would be without causing more venom to be pumped in [wrongly grasping the head] or by dragging the fangs [ the upper ones inject the venom] through the skin.

An alcoholic has knowledge of BARS but not coBRAS. Possibly panicked by the bite and received a considerable amount of venom causing death reatively quickly.

A Thai boy in Phuket was bitten by his pet Krait and hospitalised for 12 days. Speedy response, hospital treatment and a small bodied person. Our European Alkie, larger bodied but unhealthy condition, no treatment, dead and found after 3 days.

One comment on the reporting; scandalous, unsubstantiated supposition. How any one can conclude this was anything other than a poor decision in pet choice, I don't know. If he'd bought a dangrous breed of dog and it had ripped his throat out, would the rumour mill circulate he was planning a mass murder revenge on the cleaning staff?

According to that logic we're all rapists as we carry the equipment. Is that true? If that is the case then every male death should be reported as 'Rapist found dead in room.'

And in these times of PC and equality let's not forget the ladies. As every woman has an organ of reproduction, which she is capable of reanting out, ergo: is Pattaya not full of whores? That's Newspaper logic for you.

What I find tragic about this story is the wasted life; a permanent unhappy alcoholic haze that ended in mis-adventure. Lonely, isolated, anti-social and perhaps oddly behaved. Perhaps then pyschologically unbalanced. If he did behave oddly, they say he was socially rejected, an outcast, the sort of person you'd be wise to avoid, then it added to his isolation.

But that condition seems to be quite common amongst many Pattaya ex-pats. Certainly alone. The male ex-pat dominates the profile of residents. They come here alone. You don't get groups of retirees in the same street all waking up one day and agreeing to move to Thailand. Do you?

Friendless also. Mixing with strangers in bars hardly has the social cohesion that bowling club memership brings, or work affiliations once held back home. Also, if an alcoholic as stated, then how in control of his faculties was he? The incident of violence at his home certainly raises the question of a loss of self control. Often associated with drunkeness. He wouldn't have bribed his way out of it back in Norway. No way.

How many tee total persons do you know in Pattaya? How many people can not control the amount they drink? Subtract the the total from 10 and the answer you have would be ........ 10.

Could not have said it better myself

The original report is purely based upon suposition and rumouring.

It is proven by 3 vastly differing news reports that nobody knows the full and accurate details of events, apart from one man, who now won't be able to reveal.

Who knows why he kicked this electrician's ass? Nobody does it for no reason beyong schoolyard bullying, which this guy was totally grown out of. There is a lot more that is not being said. If you were to read between the lines (where the truth is usually embedded). This guy for whatever reason, wanted a pet cobra, maybe he was sold it by an unscrupulous illegal trader and told it had been neutralised, only to find out that it in fact was the opposite.

One thing that is not certain.. What was his intention? I find it almost impossible to concieve that the snake was bought as a murder weapon. Even the irational thinkings of an alcoholic would know that it was a dumb idea, and uncontrolably random. Lets face it, it is not a very effective method of accurately targetting a victim.

Just because he was unpopular, or even callously shunned by his neighbours, does not mean to say, that he had a personal and murderous vendetta against them all. Chances are, he was happy that they had nothing to do with him. I amn not a neighbour person myself. I like to be private. Does this mean i wan't to kill them all?

Lets face it... all this rumour-mongering is way too far fetched and crazy to be believed by a community of apparently intelligent people. Even, if this guy was a total B******d. Does he deserve to be condemned by a jury of his peers, armed only with hearsay? Even a murderer deserves a fair trial, which is something that this poor bloke has not been given, even though the ultimate penalty has already been served..... Does he really deserve such scorn towards his unfortunate death to be heaped onto this tragedy?... There are a lot of people seem very happy about it. Either it is a pure lack of inteligence driven, or the scorn would be better levelled the other way.

I am not a relgious sort, but there is some wisdom in the bible, one being, 'He who is without sin, let them cast the first stone'... The fact that people are capable of this, says one thing to me. They have a human nature which is just as flawed as the subject person.

  19. A man died and because he liked a beer, like a lot of westerners do, and because he wasn't as popular as the other residents (maybe even a case of the others ganging up on him and shutting him out).

I detect from the first few posts that a lot of people seem to be rather happy that this guy is dead.

Shocking response, and to call someone who has lost their life, a moron is quite frankly disgraceful behaiviour, and karma does work, even against those who speak ill of the dead.

So quit it with the insensitive comments levelled towards an unfortunate individual. Whatever the TRUE background to the story, you should NEVER speak ill of the dead.

Remember, this story came from the gutter press, as you can clearly tell by the style of writing.
