In Germany (Thai-Konsulat Hamburg) you still can get a Tourist Visa with 3 entries!

I got my Tourist Visa with 2 entries (bcs. i dont need more) on 29.03.07

I come already more than 4 years here and my passport is full with Tourist Visas and border stamps and two passports already full. I had never problems in Germany or here in Thailand in order to get my visa or sometimes my border stamp and I am not 40 years old yet.

Everything will be fine! Thailand is a great Country.

Thailand Internet slowdown 'until end of February'; CAT explores backup options

(TNA) - CAT Telecom, Thailand's Internet regulator and monopoly operator of the country's international gateway, said it would invest in 300 extra internet connections via the Indian Ocean as alternatives to those in the Pacific that failed after a powerful earthquake off Taiwan.

Thailand was slowly recovering its Internet connectivity on Friday, but was still operating far below normal bandwidth as Korean and Taiwanese technical operators tried to repair the damaged and seveered cables from the Tuesday earthquake.

Four of CAT’s eight optical networks had been affected by the earthquake, causing its speed to drop by 50 per cent. The problem was expected to continue until repairs to the undersea network were completed.

A company executive told reporters that he did not expect operations to be back at full strength before the end of February.

Jirachai Srichorn, vice president of CAT Telecom, told reporters that CAT Telecom would share the maintenance costs with other members in the submarine cable consortium. It has yet to estimate the financial losses as a result of the damages to the undersea cable networks.

He said that users might have felt the impact of the damages more strongly, had CAT Telecom not had alternative routes in the Indian Ocean and therefore were able to re-route about 50 per cent of the traffic away from damaged submarine cables.

The cables account for about 90 per cent of total telecom services capacity, and principally affected Thailand's connections to Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and the US.

The company has put forward a request to the Geneva-based International Telecommunication Union, which coordinates global telecom networks and services, to increase its internet capacity by 600 megabit via the Indian Ocean.

Jirachai said he expected approval within the next few days.

Yesterday on 21.12. i have make my first visa-trip to cambodia after my tourist visa extension.

Everything was same easy like before!

No questions and i did not have to show money or something different.

You should be ok as you currently have a 'proper' tourist visa.

The maximum 90 days in Thailand only applies to visa exemption stamps so you can do 2 x 30 day runs without problem.

Divers battle strong currents in bid to locate victims following collapse of a construction crane on Friday

Eight workers were still unaccounted for late yesterday in the strong and muddy currents of the Mekong River more than 24 hours after a section of the Thai-Lao Bridge collapsed on Friday afternoon.

The rescue team, which included five divers, was still searching for the missing men late yesterday but were operating under adverse conditions, facing heavy rains, a strong current and the onset of nightfall. Another 11 workers injured in the incident are still in hospital, one in a coma.

“Under the circumstances, there is little hope left for them [the missing workers],” Police Lt-General Pairoj Janthim of Mukdahan’s Muang District Police Station said.

“If they are now dead it may take three days for the dead bodies to emerge . . . That means the corpses may appear somewhere 30 to 50 kilometres from the collapse site, somewhere between Mukdahan’s Cha-i Nikhom district and Ubon Ratchathani’s Khemmarat district,” he added.

According to an initial official report, of the eight still missing, two are Japanese (Y Tanaka and M Sawada), three are Thai (Sedth Chairob, Cherdsak Inthasen and Thong-on Thongmaha), one Filipino (identified only as “Tom”) and two Laotians (Khunrat Shasamai and Suwin Tippagape).

Of the 11 injured in the accident, two are Japanese (surnamed Okonoki and Yanase), three Thai (Preeda Muangkhrot, Srinual Noiphan and Anond Samphaokaew) and six Laotians (Weerawong, Jansamorn Sriwilai, Kanya, Wiangsamai, Kaew Wanwichai and Kaewudon Phonthida). All are in Mukdahan Hospital except for Kaewudon was sent to Sappasit Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani.

A 100-metre long metal crane used in the bridge’s construction cracked into three pieces on Friday afternoon. The crane had been working between pillars 11 and 12 on the bridge at the deepest part of the Mekong River in Mukdahan’s Muang district. Japanese engineer Hitochi Tanaka was killed instantly.

The cause of the collapse has yet to be determined officially, Mukdahan Deputy Governor Jamlong Phosuk said. He said the construction companies involved in the project are large and would have ensured the safety of the project. The main contractors for the project are the Japanese Sumitomo Company and Thai companies Wijitphan and Siam Sintac.

Lao workers at the construction sites saw things differently. Some of them cast doubts as to the safety measures used by the companies. None of the workers were given life jackets while working directly over the strong currents of the Mekong, one worker said.

A number of Lao workers said they believed the collapse was due to the angry spirits of the Mekong River. They said they had warned engineers to conduct a ceremony apologising to the spirits before setting to work above the deepest part of the river, but their requests were ignored and as a result the river sought vengeance.

One worker mentioned that a large bee’s nest was stuck in pillar 12 and that a similar ritual of apology should have been performed prior to it being taken out. Another worker claimed that he had a dream in which he foresaw the collapse.

Crowds of villagers gathered near the collapse site yesterday but security officials were on guard to keep them at a safe distance.

An official from the Sumitomo Company called for an urgent meeting to discuss the collapse but postponed any further comment until the company holds a press conference, which the official said would be soon.

Jamroon Ruenrom, Mukda-han’s provincial labour officer, said the company told him it would take full responsibility by providing compensation to all those injured in the collapse as well as the relatives of the dead.

All workers had life insurance, he quoted company officials as saying.

Thailand-Laos Bridge Collapses Over Mekong River, Nation Says

July 23 (Bloomberg) -- Part of a second bridge connecting Thailand to neighboring Laos collapsed into the Mekong River yesterday, the Nation reported, citing police.

A Japanese construction engineer was killed, eight other workers are missing, and seven are injured, the paper said, quoting Pairot Chantim, an inspector at Mukdahan police station.

Witnesses said a crane bent under the weight of a beam, which was then dropped onto the 1,600 meter-long structure, the paper reported. Heavy rain hampered search and rescue efforts.

The 2.5 billion baht ($60.5 million) bridge, financed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, was 90 percent complete, the paper said.

Thai royal family celebrates birth

AS the Thai royal family celebrated the birth of a son to Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, it was also to hold the funeral of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's grandson, who died in December's tsunami.

Mom Srirasmi Mahidol Na Ayuthaya's first son, who's name has not been released, was delivered last night, the royal household bureau announced today.

"A team of physicians performed a caesarean at 6.35pm (9.35pm AEST) Friday for Mom Srirasmi Mahidol Na Ayutthaya," the official statement said.

"The baby boy weighs 2680 grams. The baby and Mom Srirasmi are doing well and the doctors are satisfied."

Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra congratulated the royal couple in his weekly radio address today, saying the public was happy with the royal baby.

"Last night there was a very auspicious news for the whole kingdom that Mom Srirasmi has given birth to baby boy, and both mother and the baby are in good health," he said.

News of the royal baby dominated the front pages of most Thai- and English-language newspapers.

The mass circulation Thai Rath newspaper reported that Thai Queen Sirikit and other senior members of royal family went to Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital last night to congratulate the Crown Prince, 52, and his wife, 33.

The royal household announced on February 14 that Srirasmi was pregnant, with the baby due in mid-May.

However, physicians decided a natural birth was not possible and opted for a caesarean, the royal statement said.

Srirasmi is not a princess, and met the prince in 1993 when she began working for him as a civil servant.

The crown prince was formerly married to Princess Somsawali in 1977. Their daughter, Princess Bajarakitiyabha, was born in 1978 and is studying law in the United States.

Separately, the royal family was today to hold a funeral and cremation for Bhumi Jensen, the king's 21-year-old grandson, who was killed in December's tsunami in Phangnga province.

Bhumi is the son of Princess Ubolratana and her estranged American husband Peter Jensen. He was holidaying with his mother at the time but she survived.

The prince's favourite horse, Nike, a brown, will lead the police procession through Bangkok.

Around 100,000 people are expected to line the route, news reports said.

The Thai king and queen and other members of the royal family are expected at the cremation ceremony in the Thep Sirintharawat temple.

The tsunami killed almost 5400 people in Thailand, about half of them believed to be foreign holidaymakers.

1500 DNA samples of Tsunami victims in Thailand are contaminated (destroyed) in a lab in China during the analysis according to ORF(Oesterreichische Rund Funk)radio.

It can lead to delays in the identification of the victims, but will not make it impossible.

DNA testing is one of the three tracks followed in identifying the victims as explained by BKA in Vienna and GMI in innsbruck.

The 2 other tracks are dental records (90 % of the dead are identified this way) and finger prints. In Thailand samples from bone and dental material were used.

In Sri Lanka where the bodies were relatively fresch samples from other parts of the body were taken. The bodies in Thaialnd are stocked in optimum circumstances,so when needed, new samples can be taken at any time.

Briton has Throat Cut in Thailand Attack

A British man was found murdered in Thailand with his throat slit, police said today.

The body of Bernard Le Court, 52, a chef from Liverpool, was found in roadside bushes near the tourist resort of Pattaya, 40 miles south of Bangkok.

A taxi driver has been arrested on suspicion of killing Mr Le Court to rob him to pay off a gambling debt.

Police Major Kataphol Somnuek, said: “He died after his throat was cut deeply by a knife.”

The victim’s money, camera and video camera had been stolen.

Police arrested a taxi driver who is suspected of killing Le Court after picking him up in Pattaya on Tuesday night and allegedly robbing him to pay the debt, Maj Kataphol said.

His body is in hospital awaiting an autopsy by Thai authorities.

He has a twin brother, Michael, who is also a chef in Thailand and recently married in the country.

Both brothers are from Liverpool and are believed to have sold-up to live and work in Thailand.

Thai police said the attack almost severed Mr Le Court’s head and also caused extensive injuries to his chest, arms and hands.

They said that, although robbery was the probable motive, they found more than £70 in local currency in the victim’s trouser pockets.

The Foreign Office would not confirm the victim’s details as all his next-of-kin in the UK have not yet been informed of the tragedy.

The suspect faces the death penalty if found guilty of murder under Thai law.
