Nationwide delight for 'newly-born prince'

BANGKOK: -- Thais from all walks of life across the country are loyally delighted at the birth of a 'new prince'--the newly-born son of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and His Royal Consort, Mom Srirasamee Mahidol.

The 'new prince' was born by the Caesarean Section at Siriraj Hospital Friday evening.

Mom Srirasamee Mahidol and the 'new prince' are both in good health, according to a statement of the Bureau of the Royal Household.

Thais across the country, including Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, cabinet members, politicians, government offiicials and the general public, have been jubilated by the good news, and have blessed and expressed their loyalty and homage to the 'new prince' in a signing book provided at the hospital and government offices across the nation since yesterday evening.

New prince declared to be in good health

BANGKOK: -- The latest addition to the Bureau of the Royal Household – a baby boy born to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Mom Srirasmi Mahidol na Ayudhya on 29 April – was today said to be in perfect health and making rapid progress.

In a statement released by the Bureau of the Royal Household, Mom Srirasmi said that her son had been taken by doctors out of his incubator, and was able to drink breastmilk.

Born by Caesarean Section, the boy, as yet unnamed, weighed 2.6kg at birth, and is the first son for the royal couple.

Mom Srirasmi is also said by doctors to be gaining in strength since the birth, and is recovering from the operation.

Doctors hope that she will be discharged from hospital tomorrow, after which she will reside at the Sukhothai Palace.
