Would have thought Costello should have lent a hand.

Plenty of great information in these articles. Would have been nice if they ended one with something like: "The attacker was identified as ........, originally from ........ and now a citizen of ......... Investigators have interviewed relatives and acquaintences and believe his motive for these murders is most likely ........."

I have heard the bar scene in CM is not top shelf, but hard to believe he couldn't score a single cool drink.

He's not a resident of Thailand, true, but Donald Trump recently said Paris has changed is is no longer worth going to. The mayor of Paris was delighted of course.

Peppa Pig videos, they'll pay rapt attention and learn just as much. There's time for differential and integral calculus later on.

I'm in the category of very happy to live in the US (married 43 years) but if I were ever to find myself single I would be in Thailand within a year, need time to wrap up my affairs.

On my first trip to Pattaya, must have been 15 years ago, I saw a beautiful classic red TR-3. Perfect size for Thai roads, unlike the Edsel. I've often wondered whether it's still there.

My wife and I rented a moped in Bermuda when we were about 30. Same deal, no experience with any 2 wheeled motorized vehicle, no helmets, wrong side of the road, no insurance. Fortunately drivers in Bermuda are very patient and sane, no more to the story.

"Me and the Misses thinking of a holiday in Phuket "
Just curious, how many Misses were you planning to take?

When friends of mine from Asia come over to the U.S. the number one thing they are amazed at is 4-way stop signs, and the fact that drivers here actually wait their turn at the sign rather than just barging into the intersection and then slowly tring to get around all the other drivers who are doing the same thing. Never the twain shall meet.

I personally find the word Farang offensive
Back in the '70s in Udorn, the locals all had a Lao accent, so it was always "falang". It might be occasionally heard that"I may be a stranger here now, but not fa long.

I had dog, imported from the UK.

If you're in a foreign country and plan to go home, you're a tourist. If you're there with a job, you're an ex-pat. If you plan to live there and not go home, you're an immigrant.

How about Chek Bin?

The "goodbye note" was not written by a Thai bar girl with English as a second language. I would check out her boyfriend list for a farang or two.

The last time I was there it was a very busy downtown, lots of cars, and almost as many samlwors (pedicabs). Plenty of bars, including some large music halls with rock bands. There was a large US Air force Base just outside of town with F-4's taking off day and night, plenty of massage parlors near it, about 100B an hour at the nice ones. I guess I should mention that it was 1972.

I have a perfectly valid degree from Cornell University which I no longer need as I am retired. It's in a very nice red leather folder, and I'll be glad to mail it to anyone in Thailand (if you can use it) for the right price.

I've waited an hour and a half at the airport for this guy to show up.

I think he was given the bum's rush.

When will they go back to showing DVDs of old Ali fights at Patpong beer bars?

I trust she at least made a passing reference to the Wuchang Uprising of 1911.

"The relative was so cross that a gun was picked up and a shot fired. "
I love the use of the passive aggressive tense.

Of course most people don't go to bars because they can't find booze any place else.

I agree this is a youth thing, not a Thai thing. I remember being amazed by the absolutely insane driving late at night in Mexico City's Zona Rosa. Suped up Japanese cars and bikes, especially Hondas and Subarus, the noisier the better.
Splash On! Songkran to Go Off Wild as Ever

My old friend Commander Somchai, may he RIP, did his annual foray to the Philippines during Songkran. Allowed him to never miss a beat.
