  1. All the time Kap Cheung Imm office was closed, I did my 90 day reports at Chong Chom Border hut. They even started the computerised system THERE that dispensed with the need for a TM47 to be completed.

Or did I just dream that?

and were they from Yorkshire in the shoebox??

Well they did have funny accentsthumbsup.gif

And I did exaggerate about the size of the hut.

It was more likely the size of a sardine can.

But seemed smaller with 3 Immigration officers in therew00t.gif

  2. Where exactly in Chong Chom did you go? I know there is a border checkpoint there, but these have never handled 90-day reports.

Funnily enough ...they certainly use to.

Prior to Kap Choeng re opening and when the border market was actually very near the border, I used Chong Chom Immigration quite often.

Have a mate that did his second last 90 dayer there just over 3 months ago.

Actually very professional and helpful. Done in a little hut the size of a shoebox in the middle of the road.

  3. You'll easily survive a 3 hour layover, especially if you have to collect your baggage, go thru immigration, and re-checkin. If you're eligible for Air Asia's "Fly Thru" service, you'll have more time but won't be able to utilize any service outside the transfer lounge.

Once you go thru immigration, there's a McD's, a coffee chain, a chicken and maybe pizza chain, and just outside the terminal there's a food court serving excellent local food at very reasonable prices. Otherwise, the rest of the terminal is a hot, crowded dump.

And that is exactly why I am asking about facilities inside the transit / transfer area.

My flight is a Fly-Thru flight with NO requirement to go through Immigration. Just stuck in the Transit area.

I agree with your other comment about the rest of the terminalwink.png Its on par with Brunei International airports transfer "lounge"whistling.gif

  4. if i am not wrong u have to buy that service from airasia for a transfer or something otherwise u got to stamp in and out

Fly Thru is a "free" service now available from Air Asia:

    NO TRANSIT VISA

No immigration queue and exemption of airport tax at transit hub.

(Applicable only for a maximum stop-over of 6-hours in Malaysia.

    QUICK TRANSIT

Check-in at the transfer hall to your connecting flight

    BAGGAGE CHECK-THRU

Bags are automatically tagged to your final destination.

Taken from the Air Asia Web site.....

  5. Just snagged a $520 return ticket BAK - OOL for November 2012.

I havent been through KUL for about 4 years. Last time there was NO transfer / transit area.

I have approx. 3 hours layover and was wondering if anyone has been thru there recently and could comment on available facilities (if any)

Food / Drink / Smoking room etc etc.

Also, any positive / negative comments about the transfer area would be appretiated.

  6. Well thai chai i have two kids and stayed there for 2 nights with the wife and had some things stolen no help from anyone or a sorry from management sad to say.On the first night my food order was incorrect and my bill was wrong but apart from that everything was fine.

OMG !!! stuff stolen from your room. whilst you slept??? was it locked??? did you file a police report???

  7. Mmmm all look good on website take my advice look elsewhere,Siri Resort or there is a new hotel opening soon i will find u details, looks good nearly finished.

I probably would take your advice sorted, if you gave me good enough reason too.

Meanwhile, I can only find good and positive comments about Muang Pizza Resort.

  8. Ryans Resort very good place to stay and in Buriram Siri Resort behind Big C dont stay at Muang Pizza Resort.

Hi sorted, got some friends booked into Muang Pizza Resort later this year. Looks great on the website, whats the "downside" or drama with it?

    Cheers

  9. I doubt that you will find a place in Buriram with ALL of your requirements.

5k bht would definately get you a townhouse / shophouse around town but NO internet.

Schools in at the moment so I imagine most of "apartment" type of accomodation is full.

Quite a few "resorts" springing up around town, but again possibly no internet.

In my experience Buriram is quite "safe". Driving around town is another thing though whistling.gif

If you google Buriram + Expat you will find a place that could answer you question in more detail.

Do you have any contact info?

Only have a card for one resort, but there are many.

    P. Resort 044 621 878 / 9 0837966647

Recently opened. Off the road from the Elephant roundabout to the Surin road traffic lights.

Single A/C rooms 300bht / night. Longer stays will reduce price to approx. what you want to pay.

Very clean quite and well run.

As previously suggested, book in to this place or a hotel and have a look around.

Another option possibly would be to contact Ron at Ice Furniture. He has a 5 storey shop in town. Furniture shop downstairs and student accomodation up. On the 1st floor he has 1 VIP room. A/C cable TV western toilet double bed fridge lounge and dining table / chairs. On site security after hours. No internet in room but available all over Buriram. I am sure, if it was available, he would work out a good monthly rate for you.

  11. Not sure about an outboard motor, but there are a couple of new aluminium boats for sale in Buriram.

Size, I think 10ft and the other 12 - 13 ft. Price unknown.

Located in the fishing tackle shop opposite the moat - halfway up that row of shophouses from Paddys and the Swan bars.

(might be an idea to send a Thai friend in first to ask about prices - if you are intreasted)

  12. Also my favourite tipple here.

It is available in Australia. And has been for quite a few years.

I have seen it at Trader Dukes and quite a few other Liquor barns around Queensland.

Mind you, at $2.40 - $2.60 a 330 ml can (and take a close look at the bottled date) I always wait until I am back here to sample it.

  13. Just finished reading some good and not so good reviews about this vehicle.

For the on road, all up price of 629K baht for the 4 door version, it appears to be reasonable value.

Very basic vehicle inside (quite bland actually) but I beleive the 2.2 ltr engine has been around for a few years.

Most reviews praise the engine and rubbish the interior.

Living in town as I do, I would be lucky to do 6000K a year in a pickup.

There is a dealer here and an attached service centre, so no dramas there.

Anybody got one already who can shed some light on:

    Reliability

    Fuel consumption

    Ride handling

    Etc Etc

Or, if you havent got one but have some knowledge about this model .......

  14. Korat wouldn't do mine - but was very early.

i think you will need to have a convincing story about traveling - obviously within Thailand as you have a single entry...

And they wouldn't do mine today either unsure.png

All was going along fine with the work experience (?) girls at the entrance counter until they saw I was 14 days early. As in 14 days prior to the last 30 days of my Non-Imm O.

I did manage to get to talk to the "Information" Officer, but to no avail. My stories of travel and woe fell on deaf earsblink.png

So its back to Khorat in 2 weeks time. Good day out thoughbiggrin.png

  15. Situation ....Received a single entry Non-Imm O visa in Brisbane Australia in December 2011.

Arrived Bangkok 7 Dec 2011 and duly stamped in until 5 March 2012.

After 5 consecutive extensions based on marriage I spent 18 months outside of Thailand.

Multiple trips back, but always on 30 day 'permission to stay"

Now back for good and I am in the position of being able to apply for an extension based on Retirement.

I have maintained my Thai bank account above the required 800K for the last 5 months. Funds deposited from Australia.

My local Immigration office is in Korat. I will be visiting friends there this week.

Is there ANY reason why I can NOT apply for an extension to my Non-Imm O visa this early ????

  16. Rick75 .... What happened to you was one of my own fears. Getting to KUL and missing the OOL connection.

On the advice of both members here on TV and Airasia customer service I have allowed a 6 Hr gap between arrival and departure in KUL ......

.......... will it be enough :) I hope so.

Trip report to follow next week sometime (if I get there :D)

  17. Finally confirmed flights today.... what a pain in the a55!!!

I tried to use my new Thai visa debit card and it was declined. Same same with my Aussie visa debit (which I have used on numerous occasions with Thai Air and Singapore without any dramas)

Ended up calling the Airasia call centre and they booked for me. Downside was that I couldnt get the cheap internet prices :)

Strange thing was that the KUL - OOL sector ended up cheaper than the internet price ????????

BKK - KUL was 1400 bht more :D

The call center said (their words) that Airasia does not accept DEBIT cards unless it is with Siam Commercial Bank ???? Any CREDIT Card is OK though.

I ended up paying 11414 BHT (paid in 7 - 11 shop :D) instead of 10123 bht via the online booking.

Still reasonably cheap compared to some of the Majors.

  18. I got screwed around trying to book a flt to UT, in the end, I gave up on the website and booked by phone.

Which Aus bank issues a debit card with such a long life?

I wish my Oz debit card had such a long shelf life GungaDin.

Its my Thai Bank of Ayudhya card that has the crazy exp date.

Had it for at least 5 years already and still 14 to go :) So maybe a 20 yr card !!!!

Going to the bank today and will try to change it for something a little more realistic.

  19. Well I hope this is not a sign of things to come on this trip ................

Got all set up on the computer to book both legs at the same. Took an age to fill in all the required information twice.

Seats available on both flights ....great :D

    Upsized the luggage .....great :D

Booked a meal for the KUL - OOL leg ....great :D

I even took the travel insurance ......great :D

Total all up cost was 12308 bht .......great :D

Confirmed everything and went to the last part to pay and filled it all in right down to my card expiery date...... not so great :D

My Thai Visa debit card does not expire until the 12 / 2024 !!!!!!!!! :)

The online booking only accepts dates up to 2020.

As my Australian Visa Debit card has just expired and the new one is still in Oz (although I do have all the details from it) I am not sure if it would be a good idea to use it for this transaction. Just in case someone asked for it at check-in.

Or does that only apply to CREDIT CARDS ???

Anyway .... I will put plan B into effect, as soon as i can work out what plan B is :D
