  1. I see you have the same air compressor as I do!

The paint looks good It's a flat red with metallic black stripes?

Nah. flat cause I scrub with a brillo pad between paint coats. I bought the compressor to blows all the crud from my remote control Baja 5B after an outing. Is also good for blowing out crap in the carby and pumping up tyres...for the money it is an awesome compressor though.

For paint I just use rattle cans as for the little amount I do I cannot justify a spray gun and the rest of the stuff (Buying paint/thinners etc etc) that goes along with it.

I tossed on some clear and chucked it in the BBQ.

    bbq_zps8fd119e3.jpg

lots of fluro light make it look bright.

This is more how it looks.

Nice paint...I could never get a decent paint job out of a rattle can, always ends up all orange - peely. Maybe just too greedy with the coats I suppose. Looks as good as the black all the same. Talking about compressors though...I'm in the market for a decent quality heavy duty jobbie with +100 litre receiver, anyone any ideas for what to buy and/or where please?

    cheers

  2. Nice post gzu88bv...

I've been married to a Thai lass for a while now, but so far have continued to enter the Kingdom on the visa exempt stamp, as I work a "one month on - one month off" rotation. It was never the best, but it was the easiest, but I hear they're tightening up on that now. I had always intended to get myself a proper non 'O' visa based on marriage but I never go back to the UK, so I always kept putting it off, however; in light of your excellent post, next time I come back (off to work tomorrow sad.png ) I'll nip across to Savannakhet with the missus for a wee break and do the right thing with my visa while I'm there, so thanks for the info

    cheers...thumbsup.gif

  3. Y'know, I've said a few times on here that I'm not a very politically motivated person and that unlike many on here it would seem, I'm no expert, but in my non-expert opinion, I'm struggling to see a feasible way out for Thailand here. On the one hand, there's the so called 'facist' yellow shirts who appear to be all out for themselves, and on the other hand there are the democratically elected red brigade who appear to be....wait a minute - all out for themselves. Not a lot of options for the guy on the street really the way I see it. I'm not usually one to suggest military interventions in politics, but for me, they're about the only ones I can see in this whole mess that have even the slightest chance of sorting this out before it all descends into anarchy. Roll the tanks in, round up every single politician along with every other corrupt official they can find and throw the lot of them in the gaol. Next step appoint a body of "trustworthy persons" - there must be some out there, I do not believe there are not - as a caretaker government of sorts to keep the country on its feet until a reform process can be initialted and a real democratic government elected into power - under the scrutiny of whatever bodies are required to ensure that the whole cycle of corruption and the country eating itself alive from the inside out can not happen again. I'm sure there are reasons why this is not as easy as it sounds and I'm equally sure that all the experts on here will be quick enough to point these out, but most of what I'm seeing here is supporters of each side calling the other side for whatever...from my side however, both sides are worse than useless, so my question is; what are the options?

  4. I like the sound of this bouganville....does it grow thickly from the ground up...as in like a good hedge?

    Also known as Rhinorepellent Grandiflora.....smile.png

    Regards.

That sounds just like its exactly what I'm looking for... I live out in the sticks and for security I'd like to put up some kind of perimiter , but really dont like the thought of living in a walled in residence, I'd much rather have a hedge of sorts and preferably one that will keep those stinking village dogs from coming in and ripping out our dustbins etc too. I had a hawthorn hedge back in the UK and anybody (or anything) that made it through that thing was welcome to help themselves to whatever they could find lying about the place as far as I was concerned - it was vicious but looked pretty neat too. As you may have guessed, I'm no gardener, but I do like/appreciate a natural look for garden...

  5. I seem to remember watching something on the news about 4 or 5 weeks ago about Uraguay completely legalising the use of marijuana and that the state were going to control ALL cultivation and distribution of it. Everyone was quite upbeat about the whole affair (apart from the usual doomsday crowd) as they reckoned that they were going to completely remove the mafia from the supply chain now (for mary jane at least) and all proceeds from it were going to be going towards rehabilitating junkies and hardcore users etc and what was left over would be going into public coffers....could this be the model for the rest of the world in future..?

  6. Check out the body language of the cop in the first photo - he couldn't give a sh1t....

What exactly do you expect? He spends all his working time dealing with crimes and criminals. Do you want him to run around in circles acting like this sort of thing is a complete shock to him?

I know it's not what you usually see on CSI and Hawaii Five-O, but this isn't a TV show.

Maybe you'd feel better if it looked more like this:

Check out the body language of the cop in the first photo - he couldn't give a sh1t....

You beat me to this post!!! Shots were fired at a restaurant, people's lives were in grave danger, and this is the lawman on the scene's very evident response? ("Oh really?.. Whatever..." basically!!!) wai.gif

people's lives were in grave danger

Possibly he isn't quite the drama queen you expect since the incident is now over, a newspaper photographer had the time to reach the scene and the officer would have assigned others to check if they "bad guys" were still in the area or to look for the evidence that the shots were fired from the fly-over (which they did).

No Suradit69, I would not expect him to behave like an extra from a TV cop show. I would however expect someone in his position responding to a potentially life threatening situation such as this to at the very least display at least some air of professionalism. He could at least have pointed at something for the photo....

  7. i would stay away from running bamboo, clumping varieties better, but can grow very tall, banana good, bird of paradise good, bouganville okay,if you trim it,but has nasty thorns, maybe long term a few mango trees, but i would suggest you lean them in toward your property or the nieghbours will pick them off.

I like the sound of this bouganville....does it grow thickly from the ground up...as in like a good hedge?

  8. Check out the body language of the cop in the first photo - he couldn't give a sh1t....

I thought he had simply fallen asleep, as cops do when faced with such a "difficult" case as this! The details are always so boring and therefore difficult to grasp for these overweight officers of the "law". I suppose we can all be thankful that at least he didn't lose his gun while nodding off.

Yeah, it must all be such an inconvenience for them, the poor wee lads...

  9. Fwiw I have been reading. I just don't have the time to troll a thread and post as much as all of you.

Pretty much fighting the last week with her because i have taken a stand. Her mother is not the one to blame, as I'm told anyways. She wants the Sinsod for her mother. I can only gather it's for her self esteem.

She's been told a marriage based on money isn't about love, and I won't marry this way. I could probably get the cash for all this but not easily. Not doing it.

Your replies have made me think. By the way the garbage replies I was referring to, were those that just said simply "fool" "sucker"....ect.

    Just thought I'd chime in.

There you go mate...now that you've stopped the ball rolling and taken your stand, you'll at least get some time to catch your breath and evaluate the situation. There's been a lot of good advice passed your way throughout the thread, so it's got to be worth the rest of your (financial) life to take the time to sort through it all, do a bit of research of your own then discuss all that with wifey. If she aint happy, bin her and go have a look for a new one. They're not difficult to find.

    Good luck...

  10. 1000 Euro or not, who cares. I'm guessing the old dude doesn't follow TVF and so probably bought into all the "Land of Smiles" propaganda BS and thought it was safer to keep his wedge on him than to lave it lying in his room...not every room in Pattaya is furnished with a room safe. For me, the bit of this story that sticks in my throat is that it needs 3 of the b*stards to kick a 75 yr old guy inside out...boils my p*ss that does. Me and the missus will be in Pattaya next week for a bit of a break and I have a penchant for staggering home at all the hours when I'm there - here's hoping the pricks fancy their chances, I've got some news for them, and its ALL bad.

Obviously the low so hotel rooms wouldn't have a safe. It's the same in bkk too. With that 1k euro he should have been able to afford a decent 4 star hotel at the least or 3 star if he wants to be a cheapo charlie.

Not everyone has the budget to afford 4 or 5 star accomodation though. Remember, he's a pensioner so unlikely to be on a decent income. I agree all the same that it's perhaps not the smartest idea to be walking around with that amount of cash on you, especially if you're going to be hanging around bars etc (although there's no mention that he had been drinking) Fact of the matter is though that no matter how much dough he had on him, these 3 superheroes were having it anyway.

  11. I dont know if anyone actually read this ,but bystanders said he fell down the steps ,nothing about a robbery, was i reading a different story?

He says he was attacked & knocked out/robbed, bystanders say he fell down some stairs. I cant work out if he fell down stairs after the attack or if the attack never took place. Looking at the photos though, he's had a good kicking at some point...

  12. Old rule for motorists: ATGATT (all the gear, all the time).

I flipped my Triumph over a couple years back in Spain. The bike just slid from under me in walking speed when breaking on a zebra. T-shirt, shorts, no gloves, but I had a helmet. Minimal damage to the bike (a couple of scratches, one broken signal), but I myself suffered from painful "asphalt rash" on both my knees, other thigh, hands and elbows and other shoulder. I would have avoided all of the pain if I just had my normal riding gear on.

    Motorcycle + shorts + t-shirt, never again.

Like Dogpoo I can't see it! Were you on a really steep hill?

I get what koo's saying - I went to Alicante a number of years ago to visit a friend and the roads there were constantly covered in a layer of dust that transformed Macadam's finest into something resembing a sheet of glass for riding on. Saw a few holiday makers go down at very low speeds because of the tyres just losing grip on the dust and down they went - of course all wearing shorts and tee's with the obvious resulting gravel rash...

I agree with the comments earlier about the kevlar jeans though...I took a tumble a few years ago wearing a pair of those Draggin Jeans...they were ripped apart by the time the dust had settled, but they did stop me from getting ripped up. I did take out the pads though (more comfortable that way...) so had a few more bruises than I otherwise might have had... I ride with similar jeans here thumbsup.gif

That was exactly what happened to me - sheets of glass as the streets are. It was early morning, so some morning moisture added to the mix. As I said, I was approaching a zebra at an intersection, going a bit downhill, when I saw a van approaching at high speed. I was literally riding walking speed, but breaked heavily to avoid collision, and the bike just slid from under me. It stopped within 2 meters and so did I, but that drag was enough for my skin with shorts and t-shirt. With any more speed i would have hit the van and probably would not be here to report the incident...

There's a lot to be said for dual purpose type bikes/tyres on roads like that I guess, but at the end of the day, even they go down too, so it all comes back to the gear you wear.

  14. The luckiest thing to happen to this person was the blend of genes which gave her the face and figure to become a minor celebrity in a silly land.

Playing around with her name has attracted some publicity, but it isn't going to change anything long term

Genes....?? More like surgeon's knife I'd imagine. Nose/t*ts/teeth look distinctly un-Thai to me..... Just one more from a long line of talentless attention whores... coffee1.gif

Frequently taking off jeans may have also played some part, I suspect.

I suspect you may be bang on the money...thumbsup.gif

  15. As I've said previously here on TVF, I'm not now nor ever have been much of a one for politics and the likes but am trying to follow this situation as best as I can, as I fear it may have some bearing sooner or later on my life here in Thailand. One thing that does strike me however, is that if the powers that be really wish to do something about corruption et al, why not do as many of our home countries do - if you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar or gain financially from criminal activities of any kind, they'll strip you of all of your assets, put the proceeds in the public coffers and then throw you in jail for your trouble. I guess its easier said than done really, but there is one high profile corrupt ex official that it shouldn't be too hard to pin this on (in his absence if needs be) that would make a very nice (and public) test case for them if they really wanted to..? I also thnk the people would appreciate their money being put back into their public purse so if anything, this could only be a vote winner..? Again, I'm not in the know... smile.png

  18. Have you tried offering the mother some form of cash settlement...? Not guaranteed to work, but over here, very likely to I'd imagine. That would then save all of the aforementioned legal hassles although you would still have to go through the process of ligitimising your son and also leave you in a position where you could continue to live here and send him to international school..??

  19. First, the English language structure, grammar, and structure is abominable. Second, the story contains many flaws, and thirdly, why are so many non-Thais concerned, or involved with matters that do not concern them Leave Thai things to the Thais and non-Thai stuff to the embassies concerned. Many people here who are not Thais voice their opinions and many are incorrect. Get to know and appreciate Thai culture or just go home where things are not as good as you think they are. My question is: why are you here complaining about Thailand, etc., when you live here and not in your native country, wherever that may be?

First; I agree - I'd to read it a few times to try and make head or tail of it. Second, I also agree that there may be a few flaws with the story itself. Third - wait til you've been here a while newbie and it'll all become clear. Welcome to Thailand wai.gif
