  1. Nice one....I did wonder why they were so expensive. I went to see about buying a new Speed Triple R... I think its absolutely gorgeous and its a beaut of an engine too....then they told me BT 1.2m....christ, I nearly $hit myself...!! Thats over 23,000 pounds. Guess I'm not gettin a new Triple R after all then....

Seriously considering dismantling and importing my Busa from UK now blink.png

I have no actual experience with this bike as it is not out here yet but.........

You may want to take a look at the Yamaha 847 triple when it comes out or the Kawasaki Z800

Both should be priced at about a third of the Triumph

Hmmm...could be worth a look, but I could see them being a bit underpowered for me as i've been on litre plus bikes for the last 20 odd years...

  2. True... another issue worth considering with higher alcohol content fuels is its propensity to hold water in solution... a definite point of consideration in this humid climate. I've never seen so many fuel tanks eating themselves alive from the inside out until I came here - one can only imagine that is also true of all of the other components of the fuel system...?

  3. I've still got a 93 GSXR, and '03 Busa and a TL1000S lying covered up in a shed back in the UK and I love them all.... great bikes. I'd like to get them (or at least the Busa) over here as its a waste them lying there covered up for the past five years or so...!! I did go the powercommander 3 route with the Busa and it completely transformed the mid range of the bike, as well as opening up the restricted top end. A most impressive bike. The gixer 11 had a whole bunch of engine mods and was a bit of a monster...but as you say, it was a great bike and I loved it. The TL, strangely enough was pretty much standard except for renthal bar conversion and a pair of exceeding loud cans & KN filter, but a friend of mine who worked for Suzuki had some black magic box which he plugged into the ECU and made a few little changes in there, and it again transformed the bike....it was a great fun bike out on the little twisty Scottish backroads....would be a good bike over here...

  4. I dont think I'm as politically knowledgeable as many of my fellow posters appear to be...but I kinda get the impression that this kind of political statement is far less likely to do anything positive for Thailands image than any amount of name calling, which after all, is pretty much nothing more than childish rhetoric which would most likely be ignored by most grown ups...?

  5. Yeh mate....all good stuff. Definitely worth looking into. I take it E85 is fairly easy to get here then..?

No, it's not common depending on where you live (though E20 is easy to find). There's a tuning thread going on a 14R board where guys running the E85 tune have found ~5hp across the rev range- while it's not a huge gain, it's pretty interesting to see their results in the infancy of using E85 for performance reasons on street bikes. That wouldn't be enough to get me to switch over, though- the drop in mpg (on what is already a thirsty bike) would mean seeking out fuel too often in places it might be difficult to find- it's no fun watching bars disappear from the gas gauge at a rapid rate when you're in the middle-of-nowhere.wink.png

Yep, I hear you... my old Gixer 11 fairly gulps the juice down too, but I guess thats as much my fault as the bike's...!! Also, due to the age etc of my bike, I dont think E85's the way ahead for me, but it's certainly interesting reading. I had a look at the video from Guhl and its again pretty interesting, I reckon this and flashing the ECU could make a fair difference across the board. I have been thinking about getting myself a newer bike to play on, but for the moment cant justify the bonkers prices they're asking here, but I am getting fed up with all of the carb problems due to the fuel here, so fuel injection would definitely be a refreshing change...

  6. I count 10 of the BIB in or trying to get into the picture. If they had only crushed they might have managed another 10.

Do they realise how ridiculous it looks ?

Ridiculous for your Western eye! Why if this type of photos are usually done every where in this country with criminals or even petty thieves should it looks ridiculous? Thousands of customs/habits/policies/traditions in many many countries surely look ridiculous for narrow minded people, no doubt of it!

Really....?? So what about all the photos standing around the case with the deceased then..?

  7. it is all about supporting the local production of motorcycles and forcing manufacturers to invest in thailand than importing bikes from somewhere else, discouraging buyers to get an import and trying to find ways to sponsor the debts from rice scheme.

lets say, they take it from rich and give it to the poorer people but in a twisted way.

yes, we suffer at the end!

Really then why are locally produced triumphs so expensive?

Triumph assemble/manufacture certain models in the Duty Free zone.

In order to sell those models in Thailand a complex process of documentation is required (otherwise many domestic manufacturers would move to duty free zones to take advantage of cheaper imports).

Triumph have determined that the cost of applying for and maintaining local sales certification is higher than the profit from the limited sales they could expect to make here. So sadly and ironically Triumphs made/assembled here in Thailand are transported to the docks, then re-imported with 123% duty + costs before being available to purchase.

Honda, Kawasaki and Ducati all manufacture/assemble here and sell their product here which is why CB 500's and ER6N / Versys are half the price of an imported NC 700X.

In the end it is a luxury tax - an effective one judging by increasing sales. As the market develops so will the number of bikes available - not long ago your only option was Kawasaki for a bike free of import duty, now there is Ducati and Honda with others following.

  8. I thought this was a site where a person could make their bribes online, not report them! But I guess those getting the bribes aren't clever enough to do that (yet).

hahahaha yeh, me too - i thought that was a novel way of sorting out their money....never again do i need to make sure I've got enough small bills in my pocket for appropriate monetary donations....maybe we could even pay in advance...like bribe credits hahaha whistling.gif

  9. Gents...I live waaaay out in Apache country and dont have access to the kind of shops yer all talkin about here, but would appreciate if someone could point me at an establishment that sells decent engineering (or better still aircraft) grade aluminium flat stock (3/8" - 2") and also decent cds carbon steel tube..???

I could probably use some 'computer steered plasma cutting though... thumbsup.gif

Hey Action...sorry about the late reply mate...TV only flagged up this morning that there had been any reply. Thanks for the info anyway, I've got a couple of projects on the go now which will require some materials, but good to see a few of the other posters on here seem to know what they're talking about too...i think I'll be referring back to this thread a bit more regularly now too...

    cheers...

  10. What's this thing about Buddhists not supposed to kill any living creatures? The Five Precepts of Bhuddism actually are: no killing, stealing, lying, sexual misconduct and intoxication....Have the Thais been reading different scriptures?

    Rest in peace, poor souls

Who says she was killed by either a Buddhist or a Thai? How about a farang not wanting to be a father?

Sent from my HTC One XL using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

What's this thing about Buddhists not supposed to kill any living creatures? The Five Precepts of Bhuddism actually are: no killing, stealing, lying, sexual misconduct and intoxication....Have the Thais been reading different scriptures?

Are you familiar with the Ten Commandments ? They are frequently ignored by those professing to be Christians.

Good to see that the case has been solved by the usual suspects - and that the usual suspects are presumed guilty.

OK.... point taken, but honestly, what's the chances..? Either way, its still pretty much a nasty business...sad.png

  11. What's all the fuss about? He NEVER ever STOLE anything from anyone. He NEVER ever KILLED anyone for anything. Never EVER did he DEFRAUD anyone in the slightest way.

If the claims about his asset liquidity is actually accurate, truthful and correct, every single DIME in those accounts were freely GIVEN him by his plenty various admirers. So if the Thailand Government wants to start telling their GOOD and decent subjects they're NOT allowed to receive any presents, well well, what shall we say. I'd say TIT. (This Is Thailand).

Okay, granted, a Buddhist Monk should be the Virtual example of complete detachment to all worldly possessions, so for as far as this concerns he's not an exemplary practitioner.

However, from the utmost richest people on earth happens to be Christian Preachers and nowhere do I hear, see or read anything about their wealth. Come let's just STOP condemning one another and rather mind our own business seeing NO ONE here on earth is totally innocent.

Take a chill pill. Due to the staggering amounts of money involved, he was

clearly money laundering. Some poor Thai people going to the temple, praying for good luck, and then dropping a few coins or 20 baht bills into the collection boxes cannot possibly add up to 20 million baht a day..... Should we condemn that, or is that ok ???

and when the folks do give money, they give it to the faith, not to him for his personal accounts. It does say the money was in his personal accounts if you have a read of the first line....

  12. You're welcome. For people new to the forum, who don't know your posts, I would suggest you follow your sarcastic remarks with \sarc to avoid any misunderstanding. I, myself, appreciate thoughtful sarcasm.

+1 Good sarcasm, properly executed rocks biggrin.png

Dont tell them it's sarcasm - let them figure it out for themselves...then when they finally get it, they'll appreciate it all the more....

  13. So are we all hating the illegal tuk tuk drivers or the legal ones here?

Hate's a bit strong a word to be using - even for this lot. I've got no issues with paying anyone whatever the going rate is for any given service, however; when I know that I'm being ripped off - and often not even politely or with a smile - then I take exception to that.

Remember too that it's not only farang that need to use these services - for that is ultimately what they are...services - local Thais also need to use them, so either they're being ripped off too or there's the usual '2 tier' pricing system in operation, which hacks people off even more.

Sorry mate, in my book they've got no-one to blame but themselves for this situation and if the end result of all of this is a fairer deal for the consumer, irrespective of race, then whats the problem..?

  14. “I understood that they want to work to make a living. They don’t seem to have a centre – they just drive around Patong, usually at nighttime, picking up tourists by offering fares that are lower than the standard."

That would be the 'standard' grossly inflated rip-off fare that your lot are charging. Get it right up you...nothing like a bit of healthy competetion to look after the consumer's best interests, eh...

My heart bleeds for them, the poor dears....
