  1. ... My scooter was under water --- it's out now, just hope it starts when I'm finally able to get back to Galae Thong.

Don't simply try to start your scooter!!! You can easily demage the entire engine in case the combustion chamber is filled with water. First take the spark plug out and let the engine make some revolutions, then wait (in case there is still water in the exhaust system entering the combustion chamber now), again some revolutions a.s.o. Only if you are sure now no water can be in the chamber anymore make sure the spark plug is dry, put it in and try to start. Next step: Change your engine oil. Now you can drive but you should be aware that at least your wheel bearings got some unwanted water and will not last as long as expected.

    Thanks for this!

My gf's bike got flooded, so this is very helpful info.

  2. Hi.....

    Situation update.

The main guy they were after was in court on Thursday.

After pleading guilty to playing (working) illegally, he got 1000 baht fine and a one years good behaviour bond.

Seems like a slap on the wrist really, must have cost immigration a lot more th bring the case than that!

So.... just waiting for the guy with 1.5 years overstay next!

    David

Let's hope they all get off easy like that. It would calm things down quite a bit!

As for the overstay guy... well I hope they are lenient on him as well, but 1,5 years is quite a bit.

Good luck to all the guys involved!

  3. It obviously wouldn't work in the northeast, where people are using their hands to eat. Even after being on the toilet, without the possibility to wash them afterwards.

Since the origin of this disease appears to be in Europe (similarly Mad Cow disease and most recent outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease, etc) one can only wonder at the personal hygiene of Europeans, but thanks for sharing your personal observations on toilet use in "the northeast."

    looool

    ever been to europe?

  4. If you have the space (slot) why not use an extra video card (2 video cards)?

Can I do that? I have one onboard (motherboard) VGA, just add another cheap video card? Can I use them together?

Is there any advantage to having HDMI as one of my monitors can use this???

  5. The UK is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen rules do not apply to UK visas.

The maximum time a visitor can spend in the UK is 6 months per visit and, usually, 6 months out of any 12.

Both UK visas and Schengen visas have to be applied for in one's country of residence. So one cannot apply for a UK visit visa whilst in a Schengen state as a visitor and vice versa.

    Thank you kindly!

  6. Let's say, I get my thai gf a Schengen visa for 3 months, we stay in the EU for 3 months. She goes back to Thailand.Since there is a limit of 3 months per 6 month period for Schengen visa, can she still get a UK visa for travel to the UK WITHIN the 3 months after returning to Thailand?I understand that it concerns 2 different kinds of visa, but woud the UK look at the Schengen visa or....Thanks!

  7. Perhaps they have difficulty in understanding the directions, which are not in their native language.

How many of us here could figure out how to do it if the instructions were only in Arabic?

Arabic numbers are used all over the world including Thailand. What else they can't understand? * and # symbols? It's just plain laziness, stupidity or a sick attitude to a lower class people.

Another problem is, Thais are too polite to tell them to bugger off and do it themselves!

  8. The air pollution problem is seasonal and lasts roughly from mid February to the beginning of April with peaks usually in March. During this time, PM10 concentration can reach four times the EU safety limits on bad days. On an average day in March, it is at t150% of the EU safety limi. During the remainder of the year, the air quality is fine, unless you happen to live next to a dusty road. There are minor variations in timing and severity each year. This year was very unusual, as we had lots of rain during the "dry" season, which prevented the smog from building up. Long time residents say it has been the coldest and wettest hot season in decades. I am somewhat pessimistic about short-term improvements, as the political will for that seems to be lacking. The smog affects all of Northern Thailand, as well as neighbouring countries. During the last few years, the pollution was even more severe in places Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Song. Some people cope by taking a holiday and leaving Chiang Mai during March.

    Cheers, CMX

    Very nice post!

I agree with you here, part from: 150% of the EU safety limit

    That should be 300% safety limit. i.e. a Pm10 of 150.

  9. Got mine towards JJ market.

N-E corner of moat, go north, after 1st traffic light on the right side, big building.

    :)

edit: atm I only use a cotton sheet as blanket. Too hot for real blanket whilst not running aircon.

  10. I want to send a few large boxes with some of my clothes and other stuff to Europe in a cheap way since can only carry 20kg's on a plane. What would you suggest me doing to send the boxes to Europe? Thanks!
