  1. For me a deal that includes hassle, and ends up still costing more than that I would pay back home for a pizza isnt really a good value in my books.

So pop home and get one... wink.png

Indeed. Besides you won't find a pizza in Europe or America for 350 THB. I recently checked a number of places I used to go to in both Europe and USA and the pizzas were around the 15 Euro/USD 20 mark.

Wrong. I can get a pizza in Europe for 4 euros (160 baht) in a restauraunt setting. That is a large size pizza compared to Thailand, and I can pick the 4 toppings for it. The Turkish/Middle-Easterners have hundreds of these places in Europe, and the prices varies from 4 to 8 euros. A pizza by one of the more known franchises is about 5-10 euros. The size is smaller, but still about the same size as Thai pizzas. The family versions are a little more than double of this at the franchises, but at the Turkish places the family pizzas might sell as low as 8 euros, and sometimes they include a free 1.5 l soda as well. Thats good value and a good pizza. Though the regular size (4 euros/160 baht) is big enough for 2 thais.

Please dont try to educate me on the price of pizzas in Europe. You are just wrong. The profit margins here for Pizzas are great. Pizza company use to deliver 2 medium X-pan pizzas for 199 baht not long ago until they realized they can charge more.

I appreciate the effort, and would just rather donate directly to the organizations bank account than jump hoops to help.

  2. Honestly, can still get all the thai and knowledge channels on a db500 with no internet nor monthly fees. Not sure how even that is considered paper weight.. they are certainly worth more than an old TRUE box.

How? I went through all the channels and only found TTCN, DHAMMA and a one learning channels that were open, total about 6 channels. None of the channels I found are Thai TV 3/5/7/9 or Discovery.

You need to flash your box with the correct firmware to get all the knowledge channels.

Could you link the correct firmware please.

  3. In Bangkok I wouldnt even consider getting my own car. Taxis are great there and cost peanuts.

Would put all in dividend yielding portfolio. Maybe buy a new 2013 Vios for the missis if she is hot, and scared of using Taxis.

5 million baht on a 5% yield is 250k a year for Taxis, holidays, and other without touching the principal.

Invested in vehicles the principal would vaporize atleast at a double rate.

There is only one thing that is 100% in life......... your going to die..

Why not enjoy some pleasures in life before that ? anyway what good is 5 million in a Bank or the Yield it brings when your dead ?

Wonder if a White Cadillac would vaporize the money ?

Good to see that the car advertisements seem to be working on you. Money spent well.

Your advice might be reasonable if you are going to die very soon OR you are a billionaire and putting 5 mills in cars is not a big % of your net worth. Even then actually buying the cars in your own name might not be necessary. If your argument is pleasure, I am pretty sure not driving in BKK is better, and with that money you can get a whole lot of pleasure in other ways.

Being stuck in BKK traffic isnt actually that enjoyable even in a nice car.

My point is that if you live in BKK you dont really need to drive for yourself, as the taxi network is so great there. Outside BKK go buy whatever car you please.

What you say makes financial sense... But then, life isn't as much fun without the pleasures.

Only those who don't have car's they don't need them in Bangkok. The same argument could be applied to watches and smart phones etc... But really, chill out, enjoy yourself... buy a car if you want one. The only people I would advise not to buy a car in city like bangkok are those who would struggle to afford it...

I for one like cars, I can't compare sitting in a luxurious motor to sitting in a Bangkok taxi. There are pro's and con's to car ownership and driving in Thailand. For me the Pro's outweigh the cons. I wouldn't be without a car, I prefer a nice one.

I do wonder why you are even reading threads in the Motoring Forum and call yourself WhiteCaddilac !

I enjoy great cars, especially mid-engined ones, such as Cayman/Boxster. Or even a MR2, although they are pretty overpriced here compared to the West. They are great to ride and corner well.

It all depends where you live, but for me the inconvinience of operating my own car especially in downtown Bangkok is just a huge hassle and a con, that I wouldnt do it how much nice of a car I could afford. 90% of the car just goes to waste, as you cant really use them to their potential. Parking etc is a hassle.

  4. To answer the OPs question: if I were to live outside BKK, I would probably get a Fortuner/Mitsu Pajero Sport/4x4 automatic pickup and a 2013 Vios and save the money for something else as I would get worse value and quality for my money even if I spent more. If I could wait a year or two I would wait for the new platformed Vigo/Fortuner.

If I had to spend 5 million (a gun was pointed to my head), I would probably pick 2 most expensive locally made Japanese cars for best value.

If I had to pick Merc/BMW I would only spend 4 million total and save 1 million for repairs after the warranty is over.

  7. Hi

You have been a forum on Thaivisa for a long time. You have been warned about Fed Ex & co plenty of times.

The desperate situation you are in causes you to let people advantage of you.

Just ignore them from now on.

  8. Considering buying a new car.

I have a japanese 2nd hand car that would give as an exchange in addition to cash.

Do the car dealers pay closely to the amounts that these car sell on the 2nd hand market?

Say the car sells on average for ~100k on the 2nd hand market, will the car dealers atleast give me 80-90k for it and give me all the options that I would get if buying with 100% cash?

  9. What's this term "ballhockey" ???? - I've played FIELD-HOCKEY for many years in Holland and even made it onto the Army's first-team there for a while, also played in Canada, but I've never heard it refer to as "Ball-Hockey" . . . . .

Can someone please enlighten me; this really puzzles me.

Dunno about the terms. Maybe you should come check it out if you are interested in playing, or google if your interested in terminology.

  10. We are looking for interested players to join our weekly games. We would like add more players to our pool of people coming each week so that we can have enough subs to keep the weekly games higher paced . If you love hockey or just enjoy team sports, you should come check it out. The skill levels on our players vary, so do not be intimiated to join, all are welcome to try.

We are playing off canal road on the soi leading to Wat Umong on a special futsal court. Usually 19:30-21:30 on Monday and 19:00-21:00 on Fridays (check fb and signup there). We have all the gear you need for sticks and stuff, but you will want to have good shoes with you.

Footage from our recently hosted tournament (our FB group has a Full HD clip):

The rules are no contact, but in the video we played against a Bangkok team and they brought their hockey mentality it and the refs were a little sleepy.

Please join our facebook group Chiang Mai Highlanders ballhockey for more information on the schedule and a google maps link or to ask any questions:
