This reminds me of the story about when a blind snake and a blind rabbit met in the woods.  They both said they didn't really know what kind of animal they were so they agreed to feel each other and try to figure it out.  First the snake crawled all over the rabbit and then he said "you are warm and furry and you have big ears and a cotton tail so you must be a rabbit."  Then the bunny felt the snake and said "You ar cold and slimy and slither on the ground and I could not detect any heart beat.  You must be a lawyer."

    ROFLMFAO ..... thx ... a keeper and sender-off-er

made a slight change "you must be a lawyer or politician"

There are "whole house" (several KVA) UPSs available, they're very popular in India (unlike generators you can use them in an apartment) and the ones we have on the MRT stations are many times bigger, with battery banks and price tags to match.

Much depends what you want to run, and how long you want to run it for.

A couple of lights, TV and a fan can be run from a computer UPS, give it external batteries (not a complex job) and you can be good for many hours. You'll need an external charger to re-charge afterwards, but the UPS's internal charger will keep even large batteries topped up once fully charged.

    you said

"give it external batteries (not a complex job)"

for the uneducated could you possibly explain how to set this up as it sounds like an excellent solution to the constant power failures

  3. This is not just a Thai or US problem but a world problem

guy says to his wife "we're out of balance"

the wife says "you and me"?

he says "no, the whole world, it has no moral center

we used to have a moral center, it's gone,

can't tell right from wrong anymore"

couldn’t have put it better myself

  6. As I read the comments to any/all the TVF articles I constantly shake my head in wonderment as to how many readers/commenters have nothing good to say as they come up with negative comments about everything.

I've never seen such a large percentage of negative people in a group as I have on TVF ... makes me wonder aboout the type of expats that choose to live in Thailand

I recently ( Feb 8) had my embassy income verification notarization done in Bangkok and then went to the Tha Yang immigration office to file for the annual extension.  I was informed at immigration that I could not file my paperwork because I did not have the paperwork from the main immigration office in Bangkok.   I had to return to Bangkok and spend about 8 hours in that hell hole trying to get the paperwork.  They originally wanted me to return the next day but I told them I couldn't do that and had to wait around until close to 3 pm before I had the document in hand.

So, does the OP have to have this additional paperwork with him when he files in Chiang Mai?

    You said

"I was informed at immigration that I could not file my paperwork because I did not have the paperwork from the main immigration office in Bangkok."

What sort of additional "paperwork" are you referring to?

  8. Like many on TVF (i.e. craigt3365 and others) I also was disgusted with the TV channel changes/cancellations that TrueVision kept doing ...

I made a very wise move like many of us have done on TVF ... I contacted Allstars for his help/advice about android TV box(s) ...

I am very satisfied/happy with my new TV box/KODI ... I get so many movies and tv shows to watch that it will take years and years and I still can't watch'em all ... these android TV boxes/KODI are totally amazing and mind blowing ... I also will no longer be paying 2,100 baht a month for limited TrueVisions TV entertainment ... cost of TV box will be paid back in 3 months, after that everything is free except for internet cost

Wish I had done this several years ago ... if you are unhappy with TrueVisions and want to save 2,100 baht a month I suggest you contact/PM allstars ... you won't regret it

  9. So each year we are required to bring 2 photos with us ... so the 6 photos will last us 3 years ... that means it will cost us 46.67 baht ($1.34) a year or 11 cents a month for immigration photos ... if we cannot afford 11 cents a month then we are in really big trouble ... next time we go to the bar drink one less beer and now we can afford photos for at least 1 more year

  11. Just got back from USA. VA hosp Phoenix AZ  installed heart pacemaker, in ear hearing aids and cataract surgery both eyes(I'm 78).

Flew Delta PHX to LAX, they sent my 2 bags/luggage to Salt Lake City(SLC). Why? Who the %#** knows! Delta baggage agent said bags would be put on Delta's next flight to BKK and Delta would deliver them personally to my home. She lied, First of all Delta doesn't fly to BKK and they had no intentions/plans of delivering luggage/bags to my home. One bag sent back to Phoenix(Why? who the #%*# knows) other (2nd bag) sent to Bangkok.

Thai Airways found Bangkok luggage/bag (1) for me and wife picked it up at swampy. 5 hour round trip with van cost of $100 ... I haven't a clue how Thai Air found luggage or got involved but they did. Other (2nd) bag from Delta still missing. Delta now doing search, cannot find. Delta is crappy AL, every thing about Delta is low class/poor, from planes to uniforms, to service. to competence. In all my years of flying have not found a more incompetent AL then Delta. I'm sure next step will be fighting with Delta for proper monetary compensation for lost luggage/bag ... as all insurance companies do they will no doubt deny monetary compensation several times citing so called rules/regs hoping I will give up and go away. That will not happen, I'm so pissed I will keep fighting.

Flew Eva Air from LAX to BKK. Excellent flight, seating, service and care. I've flown Eva 3X's always great.

  12. IMO Nigel Farage is against the estabilished and TPTB puppetmasters that control the USA and Brit govt's for their own power and wealth building ... he fights for the so called Small Brained Lesser Little People (name our puppet masters and congressmen / senators have publically labeled us with) and tries 2 return our govts to being run by and for us SBLLP ...

Farage is one of a too small group of politicians still working for us ... he deserves some recognition for this unpopular stance in our current world of political, judiciary. private and corporate in your face corruption ... any INFORMED  SBLLP person with intelligence, common sense and half way decent rational anatytical brain understands why he should be publically praised in some sort of manner

  13. Actually he is not a disgrace to his country, he is simply following in the footsteps of the US govt. As far as "integrity is what is missing" lack of integrity is another natural trait for US in today's world. He is simply a shining example of what US govt, it's leaders, it's justice system, it's big biz / big phram CEO's have become ... Children imulate and grow up imitating their parents, citizens imulate and imitate their govt and their leaders. America is a disgrace to the world and the majority of it's citizens, govt, politicians, leaders have no integrity, just selfish self absorbed, greedy, lazy, socio-psychotics looking for the next country to invade, the next population to mass murder and the next territory to place their humanitarian nuke bases ... but hey that's just my opinion

  14. So how many expats know "all" the rules and 4 that matter understand them? We all pick up some of the rules and as time passes we accumulate a basket of rules, but 2 know and understand all of them is a feat I'm sure is not very common ... like many others have said the best thing 2 do is smile a lot bow a lot and say sawadeekop, kaapoonkop a lot ... khun chew ahlie and loaw pope gone my helps 2

..... in my 10 years only had one incident that cost me 5K under the table

  15. It feels like something is coming down on mankind, like a kind of hysteria, a sense that life has become so worthless or meaningless, that the only response is random acts of slaughter in the streets. Sounds like a dystopian novel, and I hope I'm wrong in linking this to everything else going on in the world, but psychology, like everything else, is now global - one bitterness is connected to another - and social breakdown can now spread through technology.

A child is the product of their parents teachings and actions

Citizen is the product of their leaders teachings and actions

Society is the product of it's citizens

WE LIVE IN A WORLD TODAY OF SOCIO-PSYCHOTIC GOVTS AND SOCIETIES

    POGO WAS RIGHT

  16. I use a combo convection/microwave oven. Produces fine pizza and bread.

Pizza dough is so ridiculously easy to make yourself that I see no point buying it.

Where did U buy?, brand name?, price?

    thanks carken

  17. I've had good results using my "Turbo Oven", also called a "Halogen Oven". They usually come with round racks that allow you to place the pizza near the heat source and is does a very credible job...friends have been very surprised with how good they come out.

I haven't tried making my own dough yet but I buy pre-made rounds and crisp them up a bit before applying the toppings.

You need to keep a close eye the first few times, lots of videos showing it on YouTube.

Not at all expensive..Big-C and Tesco have them starting at B1000

I tried to post an image but not allowed. Google "Turbo Oven"

    WHAT BRAND DID U BUY

    Thanks carken

  18. I had something delivered a couple of days ago and it tracked all the way from the UK to Hua Hin. The point of entry in Thailand usually shows up as 'Lak Si' and you can see it move around from there.

This is only the case if you specifically pay for international tracking as opposed to 'tracked'. I have no idea how it works when sending from Singapore.

As others have said there is usually a several day wait before it enters the Thai postal system, presumably as it clears customs.

Before this particular item entered the Thai system the tracking letters/number were accepted into the tracking system but nothing was found. The number wasn't rejected but it sent me to a page which had something like 'no details' and a 'BACK' button at the bottom.

everything used to always go to Lak Si first but that changed during the time of the protests. i think the building came under fire. now, most of the time the point of entry is the new unit they built at Suvarnabhumi. some things still go to Lak Si but not much.

Well Royal Mail tracked post goes through Lak Si as of last week, this is what it looks like in the Thai tracking system when it arrives :

    attachicon.gifthai-mail-tracking.jpg

    What's "Royal Mail" ? ... from UK?

where can I track mail from USPS (USA) in Thai system?
