  1. I forgot to mention that I was under the impression that this camera was not readily available in Thailand since it was new to the distribution chain and they didn't get enough made before the floods to cover all their usual countries. I certainly couldn't find any in Chiang Mai when I looked.

You will immediately notice if you go on line that they are not readily available in Oz and most of the online retailers offering them on Oz sites are actually Hong Kong based. I also noticed that the prices went as high as 550 dollars at some of those retailers, however, I am not sure if they were using HK dollars but I thought they were quoting AUD at the time. Also, the shipping is 50 AUD, higher than from the US. Norman, Dick Smith and other Oz online retailers didn't show them as available.

The UPS Wordwide tracking was fascinating as it only took five days to get to my door from New York and that included a whole day in China with equipment failure. It was routed through Alaska, then to Hong Kong, then mainland China, then Singapore and Bangkok and then to my door in Chiang Mai. Tracking revealed it was logged in on a Monday morning in BKK from Singapore at 3:00am and at my door in CM by noon.

I might have to wait for them to re-stock their shelves.

  2. ....

I think the emphasis is more on constructively sharing experience, and less on futile bickering amongst ourselves. I've not foiund anyone that got sober by pointless bickering, but I've met a few that went to the pub in preference to it

I almost always enjoy your posts SC, and usually find them entertaining as well as constructive. I also am averse to petty bickering on any forum, especially this one. But if missgrin finds that willpower works that's great even though it's diametrically different from AA ideology. My initial question remains the same - are AAers afforded special priveleges on this forum?

I think that there is no harm in sharing the futilities of our unsuccessful struggles. THere is no harm in saying what we tried, in vain. The ill-will starts when people start suggesting that one method or another will not work for someone else...

In that case I'm sure no one will object if I say that some estimates of AA failure rates are as high as 95%. Even the 'successful' ones merely replace one dependency with another, albeit a less damaging one.

Well maybe I am one of the lucky ones. I have not had a drink for 32 years thanks to AA and the old timers who helped me through the difficult times of early sobriety.

  3. This is a scam I have seen it before. Just write back saying Money on the way, pick up at the usual place.

I did what you suggested and this is the reply:

Am glad you replied back, I have nothing left on me right now and I am lucky to have my life and passports with me it would have been worst if they had made away with my passports. Well all I need now is just $1,750 you can have it wired to my name via Western Union I'll have to show my passport as ID to pick it up here and i promise to pay you back as soon as I get back home.

    Here's my info below.

    Here is your next reply:

Dear XXXX, So your in London that's fantastic, I'm arriving in London within the next 48 hours. I will be able to meet up with you and give you the cash, a big saving on W.U. fees.

  4. IN brisbane Australia you owuld probably get a mutiple non-O, in Asia you will only get a single non-O. A single is good enough, only when you plan regular traveling out of Thailand might a mutiple non-O have more advantages.

The cost is 2,000 baht for a single and 5,000 baht for a multiple in local currency. They use their own exchange rates.

You will need paperwork from the charity confirming you will be working for them and asking for a visa for you.

A work permit must be obtained from a Thai labour office and costs 3,100 baht per year. You obtain it with the help of your employer. Both of you need to submit paperwork.

Thank you very much for the information......It should make things a little easier.

    Cheers

  5. In this case, yes racism, no doubt. It's the part about the ASIANS, not the Thai part. If only differential for Thais, one can defend with the BS arguments, it's just a discount for Thais!, it's nationalism!, it's a socialist sentiment!, yadda yadda yadda.

Add the ASIAN part and that all goes out the window. Asian? Japanese, Singaporean? So poor. They can't afford the higher price. Asian? Burmese. So rich! They don't deserve the prize if they win. This can't be argued. It smells and stop trying to make excuses for it

For once I agree with you.. Its been going on in Thailand for a long time & its getting worse.

Can you imagine going to Disneyland in the states and the sign says Admission $25. Thai $50.. They would have Disney in the courts so fast it would make their head spin.... Just look at the recent case in Germany about the 737 ;)

  6. I used to like the old Top mall, the supermarket held occasional surprises.

It also carried stuff like V8 vegetable juice which Big C didn't.

I don't suppose I'll go there much now with Aeon ATMs at Central along with a Top supermarket and it's much more convenient for me.

I liked the pet supplies shop there though, the dog was a big fan of their chicken jerky.

Thanks for the info, I resent paying the bank fee of 150bt.

Hey Scea, what's jerky? Chicken sperm????

sceadugenga, is always chewing on that stuff, strange man that :whistling:
