  1. No knickers are in any twist.....just, you should think about things before you post. This isn't the jobs section!I really think I am in the wrong place tho.....is everyone on Thaivisa old??I am older now than I used to be....but I think maybe I am never gonna be so bothered that i give a toss about someone working without a permit anyway!!Happens all over the world!!Maybe I am just from an 'anarchy' generation lol...long live acid house!!Hehehehehe

yo dude, sent you a PM - from my use of the 'yo dude' I'm either not old or am pretending not to be... haven't quite decided which yet

  2. I worked freelance for many years, my clients were spread all around the world and I spent my spare time in Thailand. I used an umbrella company in Hong Kong very successfully, google Nelson Wheeler in Hong Kong, call them and tell them you want to use Seamex, very low fees and very reliable, no reason to set up your company just to invoice and collect fees. PM if you need further info.

Thanks Chiang, sending a PM now

  3. Malaysia would be better no? Just pay a nominal fees to the stand-in directors. What I still don't understand is, if u want representative office, u still need to incorporate a company in Thailand right?

Anyway, best for you to research out on "offshore company" and u will know where u are heading to!

Thanks Mark, I wasnt 100% sure if a rep office here would be the answer. I think to be honest I've been reading so much stuff on this forum I'm getting a little confused on the right way to go.

WIll do some further searching on offshore

    thanks

  4. Hey thanks for all the info,

The reason I'm asking is I'm at the stage where I'm at the limit of what I can do in a day / night, but at the same time I don't want to jump right into employing 4 people as I'd like to gradually ramp it up bit by bit.

Fortunately & I travel a bit for work, for example I may be in the UAE for a couple of months then back to Thailand so from what I was reading it sounded interesting incorporating somewhere like Hong Kong where the Tax benefits seem a lot better than me continuing to be registered freelance in UK as from what I read you only get Tax on money earned in Hong Kong which would be zero to very little.

I read some one on here also suggesting registering somewhere like HK, then setting up a representative office here - but from my research that would suggest no work that generates money can be conducted here, is that correct?

Gah, this is something I've been thinking about now probably for the best part of year, not entirely sure what the best route to take would be...

  5. Hi Guys,

I've been in Thailand for almost a year now, my current Non-O multi entry visa is almost up.. and noticed the rules have changed.

So I'm wondering what options I have for next year.

I spend on average about 2 months a year working in the UAE which gives me all the income I need for year so won't be working in Thailand.

I'm not married, although I live with my girlfriend, and I'm not over 50.

I would love to learn to speak Thai so I'm thinking an Education visa might be the way - however how would that effect me going to the UAE for a month to work?

    Thanks in advance

  6. Hi ..if You have a USB Stick go to buy a M Phone 3G Sim Card in Vientiane.. ..Cost is for 1 week unlimited 150K Lao Kip or about 600 Baht ..works perfect with a Speed even enough for looks You Tube around the Clock !!<div>M Phone Head Center is close to the Morning Market and Lady stuff there are very helpful and always happy when Foreigner come in ...</div>

I don't have a USB stick - but I can use the my android phone as a modem and put the SIM in that. 600baht is pretty cheap so worth doing.

What speeds are you getting with it?

  7. I'm sure you know this, but some might not... You do have to force your phone to the provider you want.

Or you might end up surfing away a small fortune on a Laos provider.

Yer I guessed I would. hopefully the signal is good and speed is good.

However just found Unitel have a good 3g service for about 75p a day... so if all else fails ill pick one up

    thanks for the help!

  8. Hey, I'm going to laos next week (vientiane) and have a couple of questions regarding internet.

Do they have a good mobile broadband network? and what sort of speeds are we talking?

Also would it work much like the UK, ie get a pre-paid SIM card with a data package, and away i go.

What sort of prices are we they? or if you could point me in the directions of the networks I'll try and google it

Just to note I have an Andorid phone and also a BlackBerry (both network free)

    Cheers

  9. As long as you arrive at the meeting place by 8am - 8.30 am with all the correct documents, photo's, passport etc it is so easy, the staff take care of everything for you, they even hand out toilet tissue to the ladies for the toilet breaks!

Perfect thanks Tommy! ill check them out ...

One other question - would i need any paper work / photo's if its just a restamp i need?

    Cheers

  10. If you are in Bangkok (you forgot to say) there are a number of firms (also in Pattaya). You can find with a Google and read reviews here if you care to (suspect there is little real difference but people have both good and bad experiences). You must have a visa to enter Cambodia and that does cost. The trips are all inclusive so nothing to pay but the fee of about 2,000 baht and that includes visa/trip/lunch so not really expensive. They also advertise in the Classified sections of English papers.

Ah ok thanks, I've had a hunt and found 2 sites 'thaivisaservice' and 'thaivisarun' has anybody used these before?

Also I'm 6'3 so if any one can comment on the comfort it would be appreciated

    Cheers

    Joe

  11. Hi Guys,

[update] I'm based in bangkok [/update]

I have a non-imigrant 'O' visa valid for a year, am coming up to the point where I need to cross the border again.. last time was really easy as my boss needed me in Dubai around that time so booked a flight+hotel, so was very easy to do.

    This time I don't have that luxury - so my questions are;

Can you recomend any companies (vip bus or coach or whatever) that take people across the border? all I need is a re-stamp.

I don't mind which border although how safe is the cambodian border at the moment?

Also are there any fee's i would need to pay on the border? I'm hoping not, as I'd be entering the country as a tourist and re-entering thailand on my existing non-imigrant O visa.

Oh and if it makes a difference I'm british

    cheers

  12. No, you don't.

I live in Bangkok and have used many different banks to withdraw money "over the counter", without any charge. The best thing to do is to go to the nearest desk in the bank, not to the teller, and normally someone there will help you out. On one or two occasions they did not know what I wanted, but on the whole it works very well.

Would I still need a thai bank account to do this?

This is very interesting as I bank with RBS and they give a very low daily limit of 250GBP which considering my rent is almost double that becomes a pain when the rent is due.

Also if I could withdraw more from this account over the counter in a thai bank - what would i need to ask? I sort of thought this was possible as my landlord said it was however I went to a few and they had no idea what I meant. If you could tell me what I'm asking for maybe that might help

    Cheers

  13. ok that makes a bit more sense.

I wouldn't be doing any work for thai companies, nothing personal but its not financially worth it. So all work will be for western companies - not sure if that changes anything.

I'm just a little confused with exactly what my best option would be. And don't totally understand how the hong kong rout would work

    Cheers

  14. The company/workpermit is not that difficult. You have to take care of your visa first if you plan to be in Thailand. With that comes minimum income per month.

    Another way:

You start a company in HK and your girlfriend can start a small business in TH.

HK company works for UK, HK hires TH.

    HK makes profit, tax free!.

TH business makes little profit = no or low tax.

I like the sound of that. But I'm guessing that would mean I'm not employed by the thai comp, so no work permit, and have to sort whatever visa.

Or could the thai comp be a representative office of hk comp, and I be employed that way?

I'm just thinking visa wise would be easier for me to stay here if I have a work permit??

  15. Hey I've just moved to bkk and don't know anyone that likes the music I do or understands english humour yet.

So if you fancy a drink and popping to a club or two I'd be up for it.

I'm 29, can appreciate all music but am passionate about dub techno, minimal...
