"The Missus told me rings are not resized by adding some additional gold to make them smaller."

Rings are made smaller by removing gold, as opposed to adding it.

most goldsmiths when they make a ring smaller. ADD gold to the inside of the ring (usually the palm side), This reduces the inner cross sectional area of the ring to fit the smaller fimger. As previously mentioned, temporary ,"clip on" devices can be used.

My solution was go and do the TM28.. Tell them its tIier job to chase my landlord (first one lived in switzerland, the next was a high ranking judge, you can be sure they were not fining him !!).

With my TM28 I had done my reporting, they had issu es with the Judge, heres his number.. Suddenly they dont want to chase it any more.

Our condo here in Chiang Mai is set up to file the TM30 reports on line, just as a hotel would.  You really should take it up with the owners committee.  The office staff works for them.

Ive been renting it for over four years, am not an owner. Many banks own many ondos here, and many tenents do not know who the owners are (suspicious)? as rooms are rented out for just days....to whome the rent goes is anyones bet.

Since the TM30 has been recently enforced, after being around a while, there is an air of panick around many CM ondos, ive.been told.

I had to do my Visa renewal and 90 day report. Decided to pay the normal fee to an agent to avoid CM immigration problems, and they the agent had to do the TM30 themselves, at no extra charge to me. There are many farangs renting in this condo, so i Think the preverbial will hit the fan here, and in more ways than one

  3. Went and asked the reception desk at my condo (+300 rooms) for my TM30 recipe copy.

The irrate manageress came out and told me they'd never heard of such document, and hurried off.

Further investigations, going to the police for a copy etc, revealed that this denial is standard, cost saving, reply by many condos.

Went to an agency to sort it out, no problems or extra cost to me.

  4. I was under the impression that if called, you then have to pass a basic written test/exam. Seems from what you say, you would fail that. Maybe interviewed, where you can verbally explain your situation. If you have duel nationality, UK plus Thai, then that would further assist your case. To put it short, you are not what they need.

The other way out is what Hi So kids do, pay the money to avoid the military, but I think the former is the way to go, as you may not get the call up anyway..

What  is this obsession some people have with slashing a creature to death just because it's sunning itself in your garden. . . even if it was poisoness? I live partially in the sticks and have seen a few snakes in my garden and even in my kitchen, I just love admiring them. If I leave them alone they just meander off on their way after they get bored having me around.

I once heard it said that all life is a witness to God's existence.

Usually driven by fear, fear of the unknown.

Akirisan #6, has some excelent advice and offer.

  6. As a Buddhist country most Thais take Xmas aš just another day, go to work etc. Its the visitors, farangs, that make the best they can out of it, aš do some large hotels. The lattter will calm things, such as music etc, down, as per the government request, over the mourning period

Aš for New Year, just read that fireworks have been cancelled, with only candles to be displayed in honor of the late King.

Sonkran is also to be played down for the same reason.

  7. As you can tell from previous posts, this matter varies. Possibly from how relationships existed prior to the arrival in Thailand. So it's a personal matter. I love my daughters, enough to have briought them up to be individuals who can stand on their own feet, but still have compassion for others.  They are both married and live in different countries with their own husband and children. Most of the time, every few months or so, Skype brings us together, but we do miss one an other more durind special occasions such as Christmas, birthdays and on the anniversary of their mothers death- .Otherwise we are happy to know that everyone else is also happy. Best of luck.

Come on guys, can't you see that this guy is just an adolescent troll. An attention seeker.

He's had 500 posts on here since July...most being deliberate stupid questions.

So let's lets just ignore him, and he'll go away. But hope that he doesn't grow up to be a teacher.

You couldwsan LED lamp, they don't emit the light wavelength that attracts insects. There are also yellow "don't attract insects" lamps available if you don't mind a yellow light (at least it's not red).

Is it enclosed?  Bung in a couple of mothballs (naphthalene balls), they seem to discourage most wildlife.

Yes, yellow light repels them, whilst blue, including the ultrviolet strip lights attract them...thats why the latter are used in the electrical zappers. People prone to moquito bites, could do well to think about the colour of their clothing.

Englishmen are mostly noble gentlemen types and would not attack someone for no reason. If you had said it was a Russian i could have believed you.. A high percentage of Russian men are dregs, drunks and degenerates and nothing would surprise me with them.

IMHO, Anyone who uses an unfounded insult at any other race, be that against an Englishman, a Russian or an Antaric guy, deserves to be called a racist.

It doesnt help much at all... i am not looking for personal advice or observations dude...your unasked for advice comes across as condescending and..well...naive in a cringeworthy way.

Your advice on asking Thai people of course makes sense...

Anything to offer on the subject opinion wise?

No. Your a childish troll, hence go away and play.

  12. JJ, You come across a a nice person, however your questions seem to be as if they've come from a naieve young man who has limited experience of living in other than the country of your origin. May I offer in the form of advice the following suggestion, and take this particular question as an example. This forum consists of, in general, English reading/writing visitors, of varying lengths of stay and experience in Thailand, so whenever you ask a question concerning the habits of the 76,000,000 indigenous Thai people, the answers you are going to get is the perceptions that the visitors have about the Thais. May therefore suggest that in finding out what or why Thai people do, or don't do, something, then the closer to the true answer you require would be by asking a number of Thais that question. Thais are always asking farangs the most direct question, and I do not think they would take offence on being asked a trivial question on sunglasses.

Sataire (sp) said, "There is no truth. There is only our individual perception of it"

Whilst my father said, "If you want to know something about meat, then ask the butcher, and not the block".

    Hope this helps in future.

you have lived in Thailand for so many years and you still looking for a

sensible answers to many of the inexplicable Thai people do? I stopped

    long time ago.....

Your answer re elf and gnomes wasnt anywhere near being as sensible as most Thais. Pots and kettles come to mind.

  14. If they give you an envelope invite you give them the envelope back when you arrive with some dosh in it. Up to you what you give, but 1000bht is fine, less is fine too...thumbsup.gif

Yes agree. You may also find that many Thai families keep a book/ledger on who gave/received how much, for or from another family, for a family wedding, house blessing, funeral etc. This is so that any amount given equals or exceeds the respective amount received. To give less than received is a loss of face.

  15. This would be considered in Christianity as idol worship.

    All Christians should take note.

Many Christians wear and worship Criusifix, is this not an idol. We should not, in this case confuse worshipping "Idols", with worshipped "Faulse I dolls". This enters a new dimension of theological and philosophical debate. Irrespective of the religions you take into account. What you refer to is is in the Ten Commandments.. Given to Moses..and part of the JEWISH religion.

I have no qualms in combining Christianity and Buddhism. Or any other that encouraged harmony.

  16. More Thais, through forced labour, died on the Burma railway than all the Western POWs put together. The same applied to the ones who were forced to construct roads, such as from Mae Teng to Pai etc.

None of this was on any history curriculum during my educational years. Much was learned from post war movies, as previously stated. Also by my travels through Thailand.

From my experience of the educational system in Australia, much is made of this and of WWI, Gallipoli, on ANZAC day, without much referennce that in the latter four times more Btits died there than the total nomber Aussies and Kiwis. Its just the collective inferiority complex that drives the Aussies nationalist need for international regocnition that requires a white only history like this to be taught. Maybe a recognition of Marbo will be taught soon?

How much do you know about the history of Thailand?

Maybe the age gap between you and your tgf, and relevant number of years of both your countries history should be considered?
