  1. Just to offer an update/follow-up.

I went to the Central Department store near my house (Rama II) to their in-house watch guy. He told me basically the same thing as the Omega authorized repair place at All Seasons. His price was 1,000 THB cheaper - or, 9,500 THB. But, he only would give a 6 month warranty, while the Omega repair place offers 2 years. For the 1,000 THB extra, I think I'll stick with the Omega place.

On the way out of the mall, there was a kiosk watch guy (with, of course, Tag, Rolex, Omega icons). My wife stopped and asked him. He said he wanted 100 THB to look at it, and it would take 3 days. He would then give me an estimate and he said he would use all genuine parts. I didn't want to risk it, so thanked him for his time and left.

I guess I'll bite the bullet and bring it to the authorized repair shop at All Seasons.

    Thanks.

  2. I took my Constellation to All Seasons place and was charged the same - I think it's pretty much standard for an overhaul there. Same problem as yours - the master spring. It hadnt actually stopped working, but the movement would stop around an hour after I'd taken it off.

Admittedly it's not cheap, but at least they're authorised, and they guarantee that the problem won't recur within a year. I'd rather do that than hand it to somebody who might screw it up or put generic replacement parts into it.

    Hi Adam,

Yeah....I know what you are saying. Actually, they told me that it's a 2 year warranty.

    Thanks.

  3. I am not surprised by the claims of protection fees. I am however surprised that the head of a group of motorcycle taxi riders has come and spoken out publicly about it. I hope his head isn't next in line for removal.

Unfortunately, I am 99% sure that the next part of this story will be that they have found K. Chalerm stuffed inside an old oil drum. It takes balls to stand up and say something - and I hope that all turns out for the best.

  4. Hello, I have an Omega Seamaster watch and it just stopped working. I brought it to the authorized Omega repairman at All Seasons Place on Wireless this afternoon. After looking at it, they told me that the oil had dried up and the master spring was broken. They quoted my 10,500 THB + 1 month to fix it. OUCH. It's a wonderful watch, and worth quite a bit, but 10,500 THB is steep on my BKK income.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with a good/reputable watch repair shop here in BKK that could work on a higher end watch? I'd really appreciate any and all feedback.

    Thanks!!!!

  5. Yes, just got this notice from them....they sent, then recalled, then said "disregard the recall"......seems like there is something political going on about alerting the public.....

ANYONE KNOW WHAT IS UP? ANY BY "FOREIGN TERRORISTS" (AS MENTIONED IN THE FIRST LINE), DO THEY MEAN FOREIGN TO THAILAND?

  7. There are excellent designers in Bangkok but you will pay the big money.

Check out the new IKEA Store in Bangkok.

They seem to have several integrated designs for a variety of spaces.

I thought they were very nice but then I am not an interior kitchen designer.

The prices seemed reasonable and they have done the design work for you.

    Worth a look ...

Thanks. Maybe I will check them out. I was just afraid that if you have 79 cms and all their stuff is 80 cms, they just won't know what to do (for example). But, I'm sure they know how to figure it out. When I lived in Europe, I bought several of their appliances (which were specially branded Whirlpool appliances) and they were good quality and good value.

  8. Hello. I have a rather small kitchen (at least by US standards!), and I really enjoy cooking. I would like someone to come and work with me to do a design that would incorporate the things that I would like - an oven, gas cook top, dishwasher, adequate cabinets and drawers, etc.

Ideally, I would like someone with a great sense of practical design and who could do the build and install as well. All the pre-fab stuff I have seen just don't work for me.

Does anyone out there have experience with someone they would recommend? I am in Bangkok (Rama II area).

Thank you so much in advance.

Who is the other broadcasting company she is referring to?

I missed the Giants awesome game yesterday (sorry Pat fans!!!!!) and I can't be without my NFL any longer!!!!!

    Thanks.

  10. If you are from the US and a subscriber to TrueVisions, you have probably noticed that they have removed the ASN (American Sports Network).....this channel showed NFL, NHL, MLB, and other sports. While TrueVisions certainly pays it's respects to European sports (mostly soccer - there seems to be at least 3 games on at all times!!!), the ASN was the only channel where us "yanks" could catch a good game and feel like home.

If you agree, PLEASE take 3 minutes and send an email to....

    [email protected]

....and let them know that you are unhappy with their decision and that you are considering canceling your subscription. Maybe if they get enough emails, they'll put ASN back on the air.

Thanks, and if you send in a note, please just leave a post hear letting us know.....I hope you agree it's worth 3 minutes :)

    Thanks again.

  11. I don't know anyone who will do both Thai and US tax returns; I know that neither Rooney nor myself do.

Also, if your US CPA is not familiar with the expat rules, he may not be able to prepare a US tax return correctly. Over the years, I've seen a lot of returns prepared by otherwise competent accountants that had the expat portion wrong. Sometimes the errors were in the taxpayer's favor and sometimes not.

    Hi Lanny,

Are you a CPA who does Thai tax returns for US citizens?

    Thanks,
