Circled for four hours? It would have been quicker just to continue to their destination.
A choice bearing in mind you do mot even know the nature of the autopilot malfunction:
1. Ignore SOPs carry on with the aircraft out over the indian ocean hoping the malfunction is not the start of an even bigger problem, land and say "s**t we got away with it" OR
2. Follow SOPs for an aircraft still close to home, circle in a known area with known procedures at the base that is your company home with all assets, resources and personnel on hand to assist you should the situation deteriorate whilst you burn off fuel to get to an acceptable landing weight.
The choice is yours (but remember there are 250 men women and kids down the back who have placed responsibility for their well being in your hands.)

Perhaps you are right, BUT ...better safe than sorry! It just shows you the level of training of said 'pilots'. During the hours of circling they might as well have flown manually to destination and land, but without auto-navigation auto-land don't-touch-anything except for the brake release to exit the runway they felt uncomfortable landing anywhere but their home airstrip.
No he is not right by any shape of the imagination, no need to even feed his ego with the line he is wrong!

What matters to our children is now.
Sorry to disagree. What matters to our children is tomorrow, and next year, and in five years time, and ten years time, and .... fifty years time ...
That's exactly the reason we're having the referendum.
So their future can be screwed up? Right got it. Scotland is blessed with the finest education system in europe for those children willing to do even the minimum, watch that go down the toilet in the next 10 years, a rosy future for the kids i am sure. I wonder if it will be in the History curriculum how 52% of their parents screwed up their future over a hollywood romance and an eejit of a politician.

How can that post be described as facile? It highlights probably THE most important issue concerning teenage pregnancy.Teach the parents parenting skills.
...and this is my nomination for the most facile post of this thread!
To suggest the Thai family system or any family system for that matter, is capable of satisfactorily educating teenagers is simply risible.
You hear cries like this every time the word "teenager" is mentioned.
"I blame the parents" etc etc - how clichee'd ca you get???
It has been shown the world over that "parenting" is not and never will be the solution to teenage problems ....what I find so disappointing is that you have chosen to ignore the good research and "fall back" on a set of thoroughly discredited ideologies ..... facile in the extreme....get in touch with the world.
Ok you have a point maybe i based my opinion made on the "fall back" of my own thoroughly discredited ideologie of being a parent with 4 children 2 of whom are in their late 20s and making sure they were fully informed and supported on every aspect they needed in terms of sex education as a teenager and guess what.......no unplanned pregnancys in our family. (Or drug addicts or pissheads or flunking out of uni) but apart from that and them knowing i was always there for them to discuss absolutely anything then i guess i need to get in touch with the real world because you must be right, good parenting counts for nothing.
I guess you abdicated responsibility of such issues to some underpaid teacher you dont know who didnt even bother to support your children emotionally and quite rightly because its not their job. The only thing facile here is your argument.

Glad to see the Army properly employed in the defence of the Nation. A trained, lean mean fighting machine would be ready to take his own life when given his next posting to the Damrong-dharma centre! "Sergeant Somchai, although we need your fighting skills to help combat the terrorism in the South, we have a priority posting for you to help housewives get their money back they stupidly leant to friends over 5 years ago."

so nice to read this and have an ads "war thunder play for free" .frankly speaking an ads about a wargame online does not belong here
Ads are completely personalised to your own browsing or gaming activity.

Damned if they do and damned if they don't ! Look clever clogs, for YOUR safety many many airlines have strict procedures. On many airlines if the crew do not engage the auto pilot climbing through 300 ft on take off it is a 'reportable offence', that means you better have a good excuse or clear your locker out. Just what do you guys want. The airline has lost 2 aircraft this year with all on board and now you expect a Captain to ignore SOP's and fly on regardless. IF they had flown on and subsequently had a major drama you would be one of the first screaming 'why did he continue when he had lost the auto pilot so early in the flight'! crap pilots, crap Malaysia Airlines blah blah blah. The Captain acted responsibly and had Malaysia Airlines not lost two aircraft already, the incident we are discussing would never even have made the media. Just another day in aviation and from you just another typical comment from self loading freight.

Will there be a Scottish embassy in Bangkok?
I would expect so - eventually. Scotland would be starting from scratch as a new sovereignty and need to quickly establish itself in foreign countries - an expensive startup with no embassy organization. So I would guess it would give first priority for embassies where Scotland has greatest trade and expat Scottish populations, like in the G20/EU countries. Since Scots can retain their British passports, Scotland can temporarily arrange British embassies to serve expat Scot needs until it can open consulates and embassies; in the short term that's what I would expect for expat Scots in Thailand.
You make it all sound so easy. What is left of the Union will be under no obligation to co-operate or spend unnecessary cash on Scotland. Salmond seems to have persuaded the yes crowd that they will be able to have their cake and eat it and I think there will be a rude awakening after the party dies down.
Perhaps we should not stop there with Scotland. Soon after independence i guarantee the Shetlands will want it then lets get independence for the Kingdoms of Strathclyde and what about Dalriada, lets not forget the Kingdom of Northumbria and we may as well go the whole hog and do Mercia, Wessex and Cornwall. The idea of breaking up the Union is utter lunacy. Scotland itself is a Union of even older Kingdoms. Where should we stop. I am Scots and proud of it, but too many folks have been watching hollywood interpretations of Braveheart and Rob Roy, and our economy, jobs, education and future does not lie with tales from 300, 500, 700, 1000, 2000 years ago. What matters to our children is now.

So Spirits from 'the other side' that must come here because they are particularly troubled, will turn back, never to return because a guy has been in to rearrange plants and furniture more to their satisfaction And here was me thinking the next stage of our journey after this life was the next step towards a spiritual evolution aimed at a unification with the Universe itself, but I find we are destined to suffer an eternity obsessing with the arrangements of plants and furniture, and should we find these arrangements not to our liking we must reappear and terrorise the people of this world into forking out their cash to a man with a talent for interior design.

Corruption and laziness = rampant and understood why many long time foreigners make snide comments about it since it negatively affects our way of life in Thailand
Thai beliefs, including ghosts, religion, culture = these beliefs don't impact your lives right? What is somebody came to your country and started thinking that he or she can disrespect your culture based on the assumption that they spend money there and therefore can ridicule deep grounded beliefs?
Not trying to play the righteous card here but most normal Thai people have these beliefs and would be very disrespected by some of the comments here. And we wonder why they don't like us?Oh Puuleeeeezzzzee

Sums it up perfectly! Great Video. If this man had spoken instead of Darling or the 3 stooges last week, the yes campaign would be running at 30-40%

Maybe it will be easier for Thais to get a Scotland Visitor visa from the new Scottish Consulate in Bangkok. And then, just cross the border into England...
And that is why there will be serious consideration given to border control.

Step 1) Hire a private investigator to find your biological father,
Step 2) Speak to him and have him acknowledge your are (probably) his son,
Step 3) Have the biological testing (DNA) performed,
Step 4) Assemble a Thai legal team to petition your case for Thai citizenship to the courts.
Good luck.
This is all the advice you need. Everyone else save all the judgemental crap for another time. Nobody will understand this young mans feelings unless you have a sense of empathy derived from being in a similar circumstance.
Thai father but no physical characteristics , excuse my biological ignorance but that seems odd.
People here do not believe my wife is the mother of our two children, They are as white as snow and brown eyes the only tell tale sign.

If I may have an input. I have a girl aged 6 boy aged 4. My question would be at what exact point does it all go wrong, because I see a completely different picture. My 6 year old is now in Pratom 1 and everything has just clicked. She is screaming away from the pack and If I were to compare what she is achieving to a 6 year old in the UK there is no comparison. She gets a lot of homework, which at 6 yrs old annoys me a lot, but she does it always with me or Mum every evening. I do not allow her to go to any extra classes and I make sure nobody wakes her up at the weekend, she can sleep until she wakes. I agree with the poster above you have to give children time to be children, and playing/dressing up/having fun is equally as important as maths and language.
I disagree with the point that rote learning is bad. The education system I went through was rote learning and it worked. I have achieved great things. My daughter is reading and writing fluently in two languages, and for her, the fun challenge of a new language is offered by Chinese, and she is getting very adept. Both kids are disciplined, they are achieving and they simply amaze me as to what the are doing for their age. So with all that - where the bloody hell does it all go wrong? Is it when they get to secondary school age where the lack of critical thinking which is required for a developing mind is missing? I honestly believe the early years education my kids are currently getting is brilliant - BUT - they get a LOT of support from me and Mum and no extra classes apart from what they want to do (Ballet for her, Taekwondo for him), so they get a lot of 'kids time' at weekends and evenings whereas their peer group are doing school 'type' lessons 7 days a week and some from 7am-8pm it is madness.
Parents at the school my children attend are crying and getting hyper-stressed over poor exam results of 4-6 year olds !!! Madness. Some children are having their very childhood robbed from them to satisfy parents needs for better exam positions in the class. I have found that zero pressure to perform, fun, support and understanding has my girl at the top of the class and she is doing a third of the work. So where does it go wrong? All being well we will move in the next 5 years to give them a 'western secondary education'. But if we don't................

I think we are all jumping the gun a bit here. The story about him tearing up his visa and asking for asylum is from North Korea. North Korea needs US hostages at the moment in order to get the US to sit at the same table as them. If you watch the latest CNN interview with this young guy, he is clearly under duress and his answers are not those one would expect unless he is under threat. Watch the interview, watch the body language. It has been scripted and he has clearly had to repeat his answers over and over again until he was given permission to be interviewed. This is a set up job by NK. Even if he is a nut job, he is a US citizen and needs assistance right now. Let's see some of the patriotism we are forever hearing of.

Funny, in the photo, non of the perps, ( who were effectively armed terrorists), who have all confessed are in cuffs or leg irons. With the jail time they are facing a break for freedom would be a dead cert I would have thought.

I have an airline I wont fly on either.
I met a guy & his wife at White Beer'd a few weeks ago.
It was about 11:30pm, he was very drunk and flying to Samui at 8:30 am the following morning.
Crazy.
Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect ThailandCompletely legal in the USA. Have to refrain from drinking only 8 hours prior to your flight. Some airlines however require 12 hours but law only requires 8.
8 hrs from bottle to throttle, but also less then .004 blood alcohol. When the ops manual states 12 hrs, that is the law for each airline
Exactly! 8 hours bottle to throttle does not mean you can be sh*t faced 8 hrs and 5 mins before take off. It means no more alcohol after that point, so even if you had consumed nothing that night you don't even have a sneaky half glass of wine over a late supper, it means zero. Prior to that you have the legal responsibility to ensure that whatever you consume will not result in your judgement being impaired or your blood alcohol level being over the legal limit when you are required for duty. End of - no ifs, no buts. There are 150-200 (or many more) unsuspecting trusting people down the back and the flight deck is no place for pissed pilots and any pilot that dismisses the safety of those lives for the sake of knowingly getting drunk within his crew duty time does not deserve his job.

I am sorry you witnessed this, it really is not the norm these days. Next time you ever see this please call the airline desk at the airport and report it before the flight commences demand to speak to the duty manager.

One of the truly legendary British actors. They just don't make em like that anymore. RIP Sir Donald.

Sorry, you have lost the plot here. Give me the choice of walking down the street knowing a drunk driver will pass me in a car in the next 10 mins, or being made to have unprotected sex with an HIV ridden ho then my risk management skills tell me which of the two situations I am most likely to be hurt by, and it is not the drunk driver. 30% of vehicle accidents are caused by drunk drivers, that means two thirds are caused by sober ones 100% of transfers of HIV are caused by one of the participants having HIV.
Just to point out, there are no women victims involved in this case.
Your risk management skills are faulty.
You have completely lost me, please explain what you mean. That has gone wooosh! right over the top of my head. Where am I talking of the importance or relevence of either gender?

I could care less about the Japanese men in the films. Japanese porn actresses are the most feminine and hottest of any country and actually seem to be having a good time doing really disgusting stuff. What more could a man that is watching hope for?
I agree that the films would be even better, if not pixelated though.
Sure, what more!
I think the point is that it was an expression of interest to see the japanese male penis unpixelated that was declared as not being a desirable thing by "many of us".

you can think what you like and that is your opinion but unfortunately it is not as simple as you make out, there are two clear sides to this and it is complex, being made to have sex with an HIV ridden ho as you describe will never happen as you will never know - you have most likely done it already and got away with it, on the other hand if you have an encounter with a drunk driver as another road user you be very unlikely to get away unscathed - you see a car or other vehicle is a big heavy thing and will cause serious injury if you get hit by one, the chance increase exponentially if the driver is drunk
<snip>
Sorry to disappoint you but I have never been with a 'ho' in all my life, clean, infected or not I wonder if I have missed something but I really think not.

I am shocked!
First I thought that he didn't know he had it.
But if he was diagnosed and informed in 2008 he is guilty of endangering life and health of many people.
Where is the root of Judge's leniency? The man is walking free carrying and using a time bomb against the public.
actually I view a drunk driver as a lot more careless than this guy - it's all about potential to harm or kill
I also know a lot of people here in LOS that boast about their extremely risky behaviour with casual ladies yet refuse to get tested for HIV or Hep, again equally as bad - high potential to contract and infect and not knowing you have it is no excuse in this case, the potential and understanding that you could have it and are spreading it are high and that is well understood by those involved - denial is no excuse for stupidity and risk
At the same time this guy is extremely irresponsible and could possibly have some mental issues, if he was getting treatment and being properly medicated the risk of passing the infection to someone is now understood to be near enough zero so there is no excuse for acting irresponsibly

Thank you! The post we have all been waiting for. Living proof of the idiotic nature of this referendum. You complain at your relatives for voting no for economic reasons whilst you think it appropriate to put a nation into depression and tear apart a successful union because of a battle 700 years ago. If i was allowed to use expletives on here there would follow a paragraph of them. Please tell me your reference to Bannockburn was in jest? I can barely prevent myself from saying what i want to. Utterly unbelievable.
