  1. And of course we can't leave as they say we have a 12 month contract with them!!!!

    What a shambles..... any suggestions?

    Thanks

There seems to be some confusion between the connection speed and the usage speeds received in these tests. The connection speed is your modem or router connected to your ISP, that is usually found by logging in to http://192.168.1.1

That speed should be the same or higher than your contract.

The test speeds posted in this topic are leaving Thailand and will be much lower because they go through international lines.

Start by finding out your connection speed, make sure that is what you are paying for. Then compare your usage speed with the same test server as others to get an accurate comparison..

  2. We have 3BB and connect at 9

When you get the line turned on make sure you check your connection speed often for the first month. TOT and 3BB love to give you the fast connection you pay for then drop you down a week later. If you discover this, they will tell you it is a problem with your computer or router. A phone call from the tech at your home to the office can sometimes magically give you the connection speed you are paying for but check it again in a week. Went through this with both TOT in Bkk and 3BB here, and took many many phone calls of 'please don't bill me, i'm not paying for this' for them to finally fix it.

  3. It's just a funny movie. They play on stereotypes because it makes people laugh. Many movies do this. Thai movies are no better when depicting 'farangs'.

Maybe the scenes where we see ladyboys, drugs and crime is more of shock to the locals than it is to people abroad watching this movie. I know all about the bad side of Bkk, and I know all about the good side.

Go into the movie with an open mind and just take the movie for what it is.

    well spoken.....IT IS A MOVIE ! not a documentary !

on a rather mute point, the end credits featured a monk in some of the fotos, this didn't go down well with the Thai's in the cinema, maybe the producers should have been a little more 'tasteful' !

    Great film though !

The movie was funny, the katoey scene was classic ! But showing a Monk in a picture with girls in the final credits was really offending !

But then again Thais jump out of their seats instantly when any movie credits come on and hopefully missed that pic

  4. So the police were actually doing their job then.

The 200 baht went into his pocket, don't be a wise ass

Yes the Police were doing their job.

If the 200 baht went straight into his pocket, that is down to you, next time get a ticket and pay at the Police Station where it will cost you the same 200 baht. :jap:

You have a point, too bad it's on top of your head. Nice to see great advice from someone with experience,

  5. post-119746-0-67882500-1306506395_thumb.

I shot 2 monkeys off my roof with a high pressure garden hose today. Most Thais use the slingshots, this was more fun. Although one of them almost ripped down my 3BB internet line trying to escape while i pelted his ass with water.

  6. And as a Farang you will be unlikely to obtain a gun license so you are talking bullsh*t about shooting anybody. Unless you have friends in very very high places you will not have a license and you will spend a long time in jail for shooting anyone.

It is possible for a farang to obtain a gun liscence if their job/business involves taking money to the Bank, wether this liscence would protect you in a worst case instance of what is being posted is questionable.

hmm, I have had a TH lisenced gun since 2004. Glock 19, holds 16 9mm pluss 15 in another magazine. Still have it, but havent needed to shoot anyone for a few years. So lets drop the b-shit YorkshireTyke, and get back on topic.

Feel free to start a fire arm topic if views on gun ownership and TH lisence requirements are desired

yorkshiretyke may need to worry about the thaivisa moderator weapons...

  7. Good report to read!

Especially as my intended trip to Immigrations today was scrapped. A few days ago I aggravated an old back injury, and last night fell asleep on the couch in a rather unergonomic position and today am in considerable pain. I *do* want to try reporting to Hua Hin Immigrations soon, and surely hope the only reaction is the bemusement of the officers there.

You should have an extra 7 days before or 7 days after of your 90 days to report your current address

  8. It wouldn't have cost anything back home. Not having your licence is not a crime; however, you would be expected to produce your licence at a Police Station within a week if requested.

Everybody knows - This is simply the BIB making lazy money on easy targets. If they really cared about upkeep of the law a lot more would be done in other areas of frequent traffic voilations i.e. light jumping, overloaded pickups, unsafe driving, blocking box junctions etc....But enforcing many of these infractions takes too much time and effort for the Police who take the easy and lazy option. It's the hipocracy and imbalance that p!sses people off.

    couldn't have said it better

In a rare post in defense of Police corruption; I will say that I was told by a Thai that the (town traffic) police pay is so low it's almost nothing and they are expected to use their own bike and pay for their own gas, uniforms, etc. So possibly tea money is how they live and support their families and the problem lies in the corrupt government officials higher up who sanction this behavior by not paying decent wages to the lowly street cop.

This topic was only about how sneaky they were today, but if you want to talk about why they are out there, it is for one reason money. Not for safety or protect anyone, just money, If you have any kind of sympathy for these poor policemen that have to pay 20 baht in bike gas to go make 4000 baht, you are confused.

  9. My car was parked on the road near the beach for only 1 minute, then two kids in a unregistered bike and sidecar slammed into the back and wrecked the bumper. Instantly all the Thais gathered around to see what is going to happen. I said its ok and they wai but then down the road could hear them laughing their asses off...

I think the fruit they call farang gets more respect than we do.

  10. Tesco Lotus just blows, i dread every time i go there

Today I get in line behind two of the most beautiful women in Thailand, they finish up and I am just about to put my things on the cashiers table when some fat lotus wench grabs my cart and forces me over to another line. <deleted> ? then I put everything on the table and have to wait 15 minutes while she counts her drawer.

  11. Today during the day they were right before Bangkok Hospital, but then at 6:30pm moved to the soi on the left at power buy. But they left one policeman in the road, making everyone with any kind of infraction hang that left quickly, BAM, there are 10 of 'em ready to pounce on you. Yes, they seem to enjoy making your i-got-away -from-you-smile go to cringe in 2 seconds flat.

I didn't have my license with me, 200 baht

  12. Tesco to be honest does not carry a large selection of farang food anymore than say Makro at pranburi, Villa to be fair carry the best selection and at least their staff are on the ball.

Have not tried it yet but was told Tesco at Pranburi is better than the one in Hua Hin.

    TTM

Tried Makro last week what a joy to shop there, Tesco goodbye.

    I second that,

tesco = zoo, filled with rude Thais and Farangs

Makro = stock up on items and save a bundle, never crowded

  13. You have solid evidence that it was him who 'hit' the WTC? Or you know that because government told you, and governments never lie?

And why are you guys so obsessed with WTC, when US military killed more civilians in a year, than 'terrorists' did in a decade?

And of course you have solid evidence the US military killed more civilians in a year, than 'terrorists' did in a decade because the government told you, and governments never lie?

  14. I think that we will see the few people who purchased it at 1,000,000 baht back in 2003/2004 (40B/$) getting most of that back, say 900,000 baht after legal fees (29.8/$) for a tidy profit of about $5,000 US or close to 25% on their original investment over 7 years. Better than a T bill or savings account! During that time, they got some great free services, a few rounds of golf, ride from the airport, and all sorts of goodies. Wish my solid safe AAA+ T Bill from a country with unsustainable debt offered those services.

It's nice to have a positive attitude but until you see 900.000 baht actually added to your bank account don't compare it to an investment
