Do you need a medical for the five year renewal ?
Is the yellow book needed ?
Where to get the application form ?
Thanks.

It's normal in the villages. Might start before first light, but one thing is for sure, the volume must be so high that the horn speakers distort the sound, but at least it lets the locals know who's the boss.
Seems to be right,

At my end in Nongprakrang, they do 10 minute propaganda/music stints 3 times a day over the public speakers at full volume.
Is this happening all over Chiang Mai ? Anyone knows what this is about ? Isn't this supposed to be for emergency only ?

Depends where you are
I used Phu Nam Ron in kanchaburi Last time
Sounds like he needs a visa, not only a border bounce.

Fishy collection of entrance fees detected at famous marine park in South
Collection of entrance fees to Nopparat Tara-Phi Phi Island national park in Krabi province rises to over The 500,000 baht a day from earlier 80,000 baht in two weeks after a working investigative panel of the National Reform Council (NRC) looked into the unusual low collection fees by park officials.

(Methinks someone has been wearing those trousers featured in 'The Great Escape' !)
Interesting..... Nopparat Tara-Phi Phi Island national park in Krabi made 71.000 Baht everyday in 2013, or 26 Mio in total.
I guess most visitors were foreigners. Now an extra 100 Baht/person ??
-
The NP are supposed to preserve the nature (habitat of plants and animals).
Some parks parks with lots of package tourists may get enough money out of the entrance fees to cover the costs, but others, in remote locations with mostly Thai visitors, will not.
For the DL issue,I think this mainly because the government is looking for new sources of income. Target the farang is always an easy option, but I wonder how many are willing to pay 500 Baht.
-
This topic is not about the 500 Baht fee or wether WP or DL holders are entitled to pay the local price.
Its about national parks are not accepting DL of farang living here anymore.
-
Yes, in fact logic dictates it should only be WP holders who get Thai rates as these are the only foreigner's paying income tax in Thailand, and thus contributing to the upkeep of the parks via their tax, a DL means nothing, as a tourist can get one, so this shouldn't be used as a measure of getting the Thai rate or not and its most certainly not a measure of " residency "Does Work Permit work the same as DL?
I've worked and paid taxes here for almost 20 years. Now I'm retired, but spend money everyday and therefore pay VAT.
The driver's licence rule makes perfect sense.
-
According to an article in the Bangkok Post, the entrance fee to national parks went up on 1st of May 2015.
Foreigners presenting a thai driver's licence or other documents showing that they live here, are not any longer given thai fee and now have to pay 500 Baht per Adult.
Can anyone share his or her experiences while visiting a national park recently ?

I too once opened a bank acct. using a hotel's address, though of course, I did not state it was a hotel. Nor did I say that the phone number which I gave them was also the hotel's. If one bank won't open an acct for you, try others.
Yep, I did that too, but back in 1991. No Problem then and I can't see why it would be one nowadays, as many hotels and guesthouses
offer long term rentals.

Sorry, you can call me cynical..........But I think his girlfriend took that photo.
Fact is elephants are very inquisitive......Go close enough hold up a camera, the elephant will want to know what you have and he'll use his trunk to sniff it. I don't think it would be hard at all to get a shot like the one.

Here I was just taking a snap, some 6 months ago and no................. I know it's not the same as the 'selfie' one, but I could have created one very easy if I had thought of doing it. Push the camera in, let the trunk come forward ....move the camera to my right and the trunk will bend in to keep sniffing.........It will look like a elephant selfie!
Fact is I don't have a issue with it, I like the photo, and will do one of my own when the opportunity arises.............................I just don't think the elephant did it...
Good pic.

I'm happy with my crumbling old 1970s condo, so I don't really have a horse in this race.
I understand and respect Thai opinions and traditions on foreign ownership of Thai land and houses. I think that if there were to be a change, it should be for foreigners to own a single house and a small lot, for personal use only. I would not support an unregulated foreigner land-grab fest, which would obviously only make life even harder for Thais on modest incomes.

Rimping notice board or baht & sold cassified.

Rather than before, they need to check the engine while on a trip with tourists.

Sounds like a nice restaurant.
