  1. I was wondering if there are any members in The UK trying to get back to Thailand on either "Tourist" or "Retirement" visas?

I had Retirement visas for 5 years up to last year, when I just got a multi entry Tourist visa due to the changed bank requirements. I had to return to The UK last month and now wonder how to get back to my house in Thailand. Information on the Embassy website is not clear. Enquiries are not answered.

    What are peoples experiences?

Is it possible to attempt a Retirement visa application online not knowing when we will be able to re-enter Thailand?

    Any insights would be appreciated.

    Cheers

  2. I'm confused with the Laos crossing info from the various threads. May I ask:

I am on a multi tourist visa, riding my motorbike up in Isan. My 60 day runs out on the 1st March. I will actually leave Thailand again on the 28th April, so can go for this stamp on 28th February.

Can I just go to Mukdaharn or elsewhere, stamp out, walk over, get a visa on arrival, pay money, stamp in/out and walk back to stamp back in again in Thailand?

It is my understanding that I can't take my bike in to Laos except from Chiang Kong.

Some threads say you have to say for a day or two.

Cheers, if anyone can enlighten me.

  3. Water coming from sinks in the house and the gutter. Pipe runs along the wall from the back of the house to the gutter in the soi. There are a few inspection / collection holes on the way. One section has breaks in the clay pipe and is full of soil. Water seems to be draining out from one of the inspection / collection holes -must be a break in the cement there which I will have fo seal up.

I couldn't pull the clay pipes up out of the ditch I dug, they must be cemented in underneath. I think I can just break the tops of them all and lay a plastic pipe in the run and then seal up the ends by the inspection / collection holes.

    Fingers crossed.

I had the same problem with the clay pipes, tree roots grew into them

and blocked them, so had to dig up and replace with plastic pipe,

    start digging.

Yes, poor initial garden planting plans and shoddy building....

  5. I dug up my drain to inspect it's condition, as I suspected it was blocked, and found a couple of smashed pieces.

The whole 5m section looks completely blocked with earth between the inspection holes. Patching and clearing does not seem to be an option.

Any idea if just digging up the whole section and then replacing with a plastic pipe would be a good option, sealing both ends at the inspection holes using that expanding foam stuff?

  6. I don't have a recognised pension but I do have an income from letting some property - this amount varies momth by month, though, I also keep a decent float of money in the bank, too.

The "O" visa is 10k in the bank. Visa runs wouldn't be a problem, great excuse for a bike trip ????

I could go for the O-A option as I have sufficient funds in a UK bank to cover the requirements - 800k, not 10k as you say. Looks like you need 3 copies of the application for that one though!

  7. I've been living in Thailand on a retirement visa for the last 4 or 5 years and am now wondering if I should switch to an "O" visa, issued in The UK, instead.

I'm spending less time in Thailand, touring around other countries much more now, so maybe 7 months per year here, 4 months in Europe and 1 month elsewhere.

The new retirement renewal rules have changed again: 800,000 deposited  2 months before renewal and can't be touched for 3 months after, with the total not dipping under 400,000 for the remainder of the validity. With most of my big bills coming in around that first 3 month period I would probably need to bring in an extra 200,000 to cover expenses. I have the finances to cover all of this, but it pains me to keep money locked away in a Thai bank like this.

An "O" type multi entry visa issued, by post, in The UK when I am there would be valid for 1 year - but with a maximum of 90 days for each entry. I could also get an extra 90 days out of it if I were to re-enter a day before it expires.

The initial downside of this visa is that I need a medical certificate and a police clearance certificate - a minor hassle, I suppose. The money requirement is only 10,000 Pounds in a UK bank.

I have a vehicle and driving licences to keep up.

    SO:

I'd be grateful if someone with a wise head could, perhaps, offer some plus / minus points to switching to the "O" multi visa so I can make a sensible, level headed decision I won't live to regret ("you have a retirement, why switch? You never know when the rules are going to change for the worse" type of thing).

Oh, and could the trolls please hold their tongues.

  8. I know the ferry routes, just not if it is possible to take a bike ????

I tried the TAT in Phuket Town today. They called Krabi to ask. Yes, one of the northern piers in Yao Yai has a boat to Ao Nang. Couldn/t give me a time, though ????

Public transport info, in general, is pretty damn poor in Thailand.

  9. I'm looking at going to the mainland by ferry with my motorbike, rather than riding around through Phang Nga.

I know I can get the vehicular ferry from Phuket town to Yao. Does anyone know if I can get from Yao to Krabi?

I asked at Bang Rong and the lady said "yes, you can" but had no details.

The bike is a 250cc and I'm told the regular large longtail ferry boats will probably take it - but I need to be sure.

I can't find anyjthing online about this.

    Any info greatly received

    ????

  10. I find the whole issue completely bewildering....

    Could anyone advise me, please:

I just got back to Thailand after 4 months away. I have a Retirement Visa due in October.

Before I left Thailand in May I had a stay at Wat Suan Mok (where my presence was passed to Immigration). I then returned to my place of residence in Phuket to collect bags and left the country. I did not inform Immigration of my return as it was over a weekend.

Now I have returned, do I need to go to Immigration to re-register my place of residence (copy of passport, visa, stamps, arrival card, lease, etc) because Suan Mok was my last notified, or can I just show up to do my Retirement renewal?

It is quite a drive in to town so I want to make sure I have what is needed in advance.

    Cheers

  11. The Thalang service center is closed.

A "vehicle receiver" at Phuket Town service center, when I went on the day of the announcement, said it was closing. No spare parts were being ordered - try Krabi, he said..

Eventually found one part in Sampom (?), a shop on Thepkasatrri not far from the old BMW dealer. Phuket Arai on  the airport bypass road is another possibility. Still trying to locate another part, though.

As far as the "how long have you been in Thailand" comment goes, it doesn't matter. A company like Anuphas should not be shutting up shop and telling customers "tough". Supposedly reputable company (and family) - reputation shot, and deservedly so.

Did you use Bravecto/Nexgard or spot on treatments/collars/injections/baths? All those things are less effective. The in-laws dog was always infested when treated with those things, but since going on Bravecto has never had a tick found on her since.

We used Frontline and also did some spraying with Chaindrite.

  13. I used to have two dogs and they were treated for ticks regularly - still had infestations. Nothing seemed to work.

Got a Bravecto for the dog.

Bayticol to spray the general area.

And also some Chaindrite powder which is also supposed to kill the little gits.

I will try the liquid Chaindrite in the plastic wrapped sofa, too.

  14. Our village committee is looking for bids from companies able to do a repair job in our community. The turning circle area has started to "give way" and needs foundation, wall, drain and road work carrying out. It isn't a huge job but would certainly require some machinery.

Could anyone recommend companies in the Talang area?

You can do an enclosed tick and roach kill using Chaindrite ..    1 can would be enough.  Wrap the furniture in plastic to enclose any fumes and kill all ticks inside.

Spray the Chaindrite into the plastic enclosure and seal of again leaving it for a couple of days. Then open up and fragrant with leather oil.

    Hadn't thought of that! Cheers.

I understood that but as someone mentioned ticks can live a very long time once the host leaves - without any sustenance. I found a baby/male tick over 6 months after the dogs departed the property. At this stage I don't think we know the OP's situation.............

Exactly. The soi dog lies at our gate sometimes. The ticks are all over the carport area and the sofa I have out there. The next door neighbour has them even worse than us.
