  1. Actually, I think you have got the wrong end of the stick on this one.

I trust this vet and have been using him for many years.

I checked around three other vet places in town and just to the south of it. One said that the operation was very difficult and carried a low success rate. One said it would be no problem and all of them said they did not know where to get blood from.

It seems to be the case that the owner needs to do the leg work with getting the blood - to the point of asking neighbours or friends if they could help. A big problem is that the donor dog needs to be over 20Kg and not older than 7 years. I know a few dog owners I could ask, but their dogs don't fulfill those criteria.

I can't wait until his spleen bursts before getting him seen to, either, it is because it is his spleen that he will require so much blood in the first place. Everything has to be in place for the operation, you can't just do it with no spare blood available.

I believe there is a vet in Thalang who may deal with The Soi Dogs Foundation and this may be a possible source. I don't have the phone number, though, so will have to go up there to speak with them.

  2. I know you can live without it and he is a pretty good age. The spleen is not his only problem, though, but if it isn't removed and one of the growths burst he is likely to die in quite a lot of pain, according to the vet.

It is impossible to judge when it could happen, tomorrow, next month, or much later. It is difficult trying to weigh up what is best for him, I just think the operation might be the best chance for him.

  3. Hi,

does anyone know where I can source blood for my dog?

He needs to have his spleen removed, unfortunately.

Does anyone have experience of this, here in Phuket? Risks and success rates, etc?

    Cheers

  4. My dog needs an operation to remove his spleen and I am trying to find somewhere which can supply a blood match for him. Unbelievably, Phuket does not seem to have any facility to do this (so far as I can find).

One doctor advised against the operation, anyhow, due to a low success rate, another has said it should be no problem as long as the bleeding can be controlled and there is sufficient for the operation.

Does anyone have any experience of this procedure or know of a place which can supply blood?

He is a 12 1/2 year old Cocker, by the way.

  5. I've given up with Win 7 and just plan on re-installing Mint, this is just a spare laptop so I'm not too bothered about it. I have tried the Universal UsbI bootable idea and the drive does not get recognised.

I might just do a "format C" and see what happens:)

  6. I have an Asus EE 1000 which I have previously had with Ubuntu and then XP systems. I had installed Mint but wanted to try out Win 10 so tried to load my Win 7 disc to upgrade it to 10. That wouldn't work for some reason so I re-installed XP and tried to go to Win 7 again from there. That failed, too. I am now trying to re-install Mint 16 or 17 from an external dvd drive (as I did previously) but, no matter what I do to the F2 boot select option, the damn laptop just keeps coming back up in XP. I have also tried with the Universal USB installer, but that doesn't seem to be recognised either.

I did need to do some messing with the partitions when I re-installed XP, otherwise it just would not start that installation process.

    Anyone have any pointers?

    Cheers.

  7. The dogs are having problems with ticks and I need to do some spraying. Does anyone know how long after spraying it is ok for the dogs and cats to roam around again?

Does the Chaindrite kill on contact (the ticks). Should it be left down or wiped away after some time (tables and chairs).

    Thanks.

  8. Does anyone know who is in charge of the pier?

There are "security" people at each end but they either sit and guard their table or blow a whistle to direct the buses at the far end.

I thought access was supposed to be limited. It looks like any hoodlum can just scream down there at full throttle with no fear of apprehension or fine.

Last night whilst having a walk along there, dick that I am, I asked a young Thai bloke to slow down and he went mental at me, I thought he was going to have a go.

I'd like to make a complaint but figure the cop shop will be a waste of time. Is it the PPAO who I should try?

I don't expect anything to change but I reckon if you don't try then you are just condoning the actions of these penises.

  9. Anyone know of any roadcycle races or meets in the next few weeks? Phuket or Pang Nga.

I believe there is one in Rawai on the 20th but can't find any details about it.

    Cheers.

  10. To get the C of R I got told by the volunteer in Immigration that I also needed a copy of my landlady's ID card. Reason being my licence address is different to my current address. Doesn't seem to matter that my address was verified by my landlady for my Retirement visa.

  11. Went to Nai Harn for a walk on the beach yesterday for the first time in ages. Notice they now have stakes every 20 or so meters along the beach and wondered what they might be for? Anything to do with the beach umbrella and mat renters who are now, once again operating? Also selling drinks (license?). Some massage areas, too.

  12. Someone posted last year about a couple of Thai guys who do odd jobs, including cutting tree branches, in the Chalong area. I can't find it in the forum any more. Does anyone have the link?

    Thanks

  13. would be nice with some reports on getting a proof of residence in Town and Patong..smile.png

I went on Oct. 16 for the proof, and I got it for free. ;-)
Question is ... were you asked for any money ? I have been asked in the past, but refused, pointing out that certificate attracted no 'fee', and paid nothing.
Yes I was asked (whispering) for 300, and I asked for a receipt. That ended the discussion. It was at counter 3, the guy with the old-fashioned glasses.

    Counter 3, that's the man!....

My landlady had to deal with him some time ago, lovely lady from a rather influential local family - "I can't believe it, he talked down to me". Now she knows what it is like to be a farang in there.

  14. Not sure I understand what is going on at the airport with regards to immigration. From the posts above it seems that the express lane scam is still going strong? I arrived on Emirates on Sunday night fully expecting the same and was completely gobsmacked by the fact that we were the only plane in and the immigration hall had every single counter operated. Not only that but they were stamping at the proper rate (not slowing down to 1/3rd speed like when the Express lane is in operation) and there were even some smiles from the officials.

    Un-<deleted>**ing believable!

I can't understand why the taxi fares are still so high, though. They were sup[posed to be dropped when they were able to do pick-ups anywhere, weren't they?

  15. The whole operation has been a bit of a fiasco, so far as vehicle control and flow, hasn't it? Since day one the traffic light configuration never changed to reflect the reality of flow, hence the total disregard for traffic light colour......... How to turn left and right to Patong or Phuket Town has been a bit of a mystery for some time, too.

    Shambolic.

  16. For anyone who knows him,I believe Rudy, who has been living in Phuket for the last year, died last week.

He had not been seen by neighbours for a while so one knocked on his door to see if he was ok. He was found face down in his livingroom. He had been arguing with someone around the time he was last seen or heard but the cops did not question anyone in the area when they came around so no doubt there will be no investigation to check that it was actually a natural death.

  17. would appreciate any advice on a decent repair shop not far from Rawai - need to change gearing cables on my bike.

I found one in Chalong (from the list posted above) but their mechanic is away till next week.

    Thanks

The shop on the east side of the road about 800 metres north of Chalong Circle (on Chao Fah East Rd) is pretty good and has reasonable prices. I've got my bike fixed there a few times. They had a lot of Biancci bikes in recently at reduced prices. A friend also said they had good prices on accessories like GPS etc.
