  1. The 2400 THB doesn’t sound that unreasonable, getting the Fiber-optic cable to your place had likely a higher price tag.

You signed a contract with AIS for the period of 12 months, and it would be very easy for AIS to show that they made extensive cost to connect you to the Internet. Because AIS invested money, equipment and man-hour to connect you, therefore they can enforce the contract you signed.

If for example you move into a house and the house already has a TOT telephone cable and you apply for TOT telephone service …. you can easily get around the one year contract, as TOT or other telephone company did little to no investment to connect.

Still I would just pay, you agreed to something and you should stick to your word.

  2. The problem with the Honda Forza 300 is that the current model will be getting a major engine rework (and likely some other tweaks and styling updates). With that the resell value of a “old” model with an old engine will sharply drop on the secondhand price.

The reason for this engine upgrade is that the current Honda Forza 300 is not EURO4 complainant, which means that from 1 January 2018 it cannot be sold in Europe. In some states in the US it’s for exhaust emission reasons already not available.

The current Sym Maxsym 400 and the Sym GTS 300 ABS are both able to pass the EURO4 standard.

  3. Thailand is not really strong with replying emails, it's a country thing and not even only for automotive business... I would suggest calling them, maybe you have to call 3 or 4 times before you get somebody who speaks enough English to be meaningful. By the way, calling is the Thai standard, for example most motorcycle manufacturers have so called hotlines for customers... but only a few publish email addresses... Also if you send a email to a address like [email protected] it's very unlikely that anybody from sales or PR have ever seen it...

  4. Maybe sad to say, but Metisse Motorcycles is absolute not a Chinese company or owned by Chinese. The owner is called Gerry Lisi and is surely not Chinese....

Look at the picture, the person on the left is Gerry Lisi

    Gerry-and-Prince-William.jpg

Metisse Motorcycles is a 100% British company. They stepped into the spotlight after a Hollywood movie director used a Metisse MKII Hammer for the popular movie U.N.C.L.E

  5. If you’re using a WIFI connection with the router you should check the channel the router is using. For example I have 4 people around my house also having WIFI enabled routers that all use channel 6, with my house in the middle if I use channel 6 on my WIFI router it will result in me having a very bad internet connection…

With modern routers you can select channels from 1 to 11, you can download a small app for your smartphone called “WIFI Analyser” which will tell you which WIFI channels the routers around you are using. Select a channel that has no users is the best, but the lowest will also work…

  6. Original the Honda PCX150 was equipped with a 152.9cc engine, but the latest model has been downgraded to a 149.3cc engine.

It really looks like Honda wants to give the small scooter market to Yamaha, as the Yamaha Nmax 155 comes with Variable Valve Timing, 155cc engine that is like years ahead of what Honda has done with the latest engine....

    Screenshot-APHonda.jpg

Because the Honda PCX150 is now below 150cc, the only positive thing is that you pay less tax... but how much is that for one year..... :)

As an aside the new PCX has a 153 cc engine. The original 150 PCX 138 cc

I have just purchased a  new Yamaha Aerox ABS  . Has all the bells and whistles

73000 Baht plus extra 2000 baht  for plate etc.

    155 cc . Terrific machine.

Suspect your need for finance will require the purchase of  a new machine

The new Honda PCX150 with Smart Key is just a 149.3cc single-cylinder nothing special...

  8. After the relation between Bajaj Auto and Kawasaki Heavy went a bit sour, something to do with Bajaj Auto making CFMoto motorcycles that look damn much similar as the Kawasaki ER6 range. Bajaj Auto didn’t back down and even increased production in China…

The new partner for small-capacity motorcycles and scooters is Kymco… Kawasaki already sells 2 Kymco models (125 and 300cc scooter) in several countries.

Most industry insiders believe that the twist between Bajaj Auto and Kawasaki Heavy will settle down and all things return to normal… The two (Kawasaki and Bajaj Auto) have just to much joined operations to untwist...

Richard, get off your high horse.

Me, i always have been a little different.

    Stood out from the crowd.

    In the underdog's corner.

Never followed fashion or the latest "must have", which, in the case of motorcycles is generally the latest, fastest thing going. These days, covered in plastic hiding a hideous water cooled monstrosity labelled as a "power unit", not engine.

I've always appreciated through history the bike builders, engine builders and tuners who took on the big boys, built something that was not meant to go THAT fast, nor win.

    Because they could.

History is full of wonderful examples of people and the bikes and engines they built against the odds.

The NZ guy with the side valve Indian.

The Norton tuner who could beat 4 cylinder multis with his single.

Lucifer's Hammer, the pre Evo HD Sportster that er, hammered competition.

The RGB 8 valve Triumph- Weslake twin that beat 1000cc 4 cylinder superbikes, built by a bloke in his wheelchair.

The American privateer dentist, Dr John who built pushrod Moto Guzzi twins that won and beat the American works Desmo Ducati teams in Supertwins.

    I could go on.

    Those guys have my admiration.

And all the guys building a nice fast special in their home workshops and sheds, be it an old Ducati, Guzzi, Harley or Brit bike, they have my admiration and respect too

But someone walking into a HonYaKaZuki showroom, or BMcati, laying down the money, and riding out on the latest plastic crotch rocket with 190 bhp and a 300 kmph top speed does NOT impress me. Anybody can do that....

And most do. But i'm not one of the "most".

Also a few good points... The thing that we all call motorcycle is very much influenced by our personal feelings and taste, what I like does have to be what somebody else likes... We should respect that more on this forum (including me) and just concentrate on having fun on two wheels...

absolutely hammering an unsuspecting rider on a Z300/CB500 or similar.

You would have me, and I ride even much more powerful motorcycles. But not because your 621cc big bore kit provide you with that more power – I would be perplexed and have to stop to remove my helmet to wipe the tiers from my eyes from laughing….

I have a 1000cc sportbike, which was for a few years back the (claimed by the manufacturer) fastest production bike… and you would be surprised how much teenagers at the traffic light are playing with the throttle like they want to race… and they often do dangerous things to get away first from the traffic light… Also when I cruise at a relaxed pace I often get teenagers belly flat on the fuel tank passing me….

Your comment “hammering an unsuspecting rider” fit perfectly in the teenager rider category. If you not a teenager, sorry, you maybe in a second youth syndrome...

  11. I visited the Hitchcocks Motorcycles website a few times, just to look for some fun parts for my classic Royal Enfield. But if I look at the parts needed to get the a R-E Continental GT 535 to deliver the promised 40 horsepower you can also buy a Ducati Scrambler Icon (805cc), basically for around the price you pay for the R-E Continental GT 535 with all the performance upgrades you have so much other options...

No warranty, Resell value, I can thing of so many negative things why not to mess with the engine of a classic looking motorcycle...

  12. People buying a Royal-Enfield and wanting more performance... Not sure if I want to laugh or cry, but I'm sure you're looking at the wrong motorcycle if you want some decent performance. Buy a Kawasaki Z300 and so much faster than the "current" fastest Royal-Enfield.

I have a Royal Enfield Bullet for years and riding it is fantastic, but I also have to accept that the average housewife on her Honda Wave 125 is "mostly" faster than me... People who buy a R-E buy it to have a relaxed ride, if you want to go fast you have so many other options...

  13. I’m pretty sure that the 38 year old Triumph is a beauty to look at, but we not talking here about the best looking motorcycles, the I could do things with a Kawasaki Versys 650 you would probably not prefer to do with your 38 year old Triumph… A classic Triumph is nice for getting a fancy coffee and park it so you can enjoy it from your table…

The Kawasaki Versys 650 is not a motorcycle you need to look long at, you need to ride it and take it to places and take roads and gravel paths that I would not recommend on a restored 38 year old Triumph….

I made the connection with the Kawasaki Versys 650 for the Honda X-ADV 750, as the first Kawasaki Versys was also received in the press as a ugly ducky… but with current sales figures Kawasaki has a amazing successful model… even it looks like it looks

The first Kawasaki Versys 650 model was unmatched when it came to riding, handling and price...

  14. If riding was only about the looks, the Kawasaki Versys would never been this popular. I can remember the first time I saw the Kawasaki Versys and had something like how they could come up with this… But riding the that first Kawasaki Versys model changed everything, it was marvelous, the riding position offered endless touring, the longer suspension travel a bit off-road riding and the excellent handling made it a perfect motorcycle for tight traffic…. But it looked hideous…

Time tells us that many people cared more about the excellent behavior of the Kawasaki Versys and less about how it looked. The Kawasaki Versys is one of team green’s success stories…

So will the Honda X-ADV 750 sell good or bad, not only depends on how it looks… It has a good engine that works really good. Despite what a lot of people say, the DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) from Honda works pretty good off-road, especially when you not have a bucket-load of off-road riding experience...

When we were in Laos we met a couple of Malaysian lads who had ridden their 110cc bikes up through Thailand on their way to Nepal. We didn't go into detail, but they said it was pretty easy, including the crossing into Laos.

I think a few Baht changed hands but not much, but then these guys were carrying their luggage in plastic bags.

Exempted from the new tough Thai regulation are vehicles (motorcycles) registered in Lao, Malaysia and Singapore.

  16. Legal Harley-Davidson engines that are for exampled salvaged from a crashed motorcycle are extremely expensive. So if you looking for a way to get some cheap H-D engines you probably look in the wrong country.

Also to export an motorcycle engine that was registered at some time in the past you need a lot of paperwork… some less easy to obtain if you visit Thailand for less than 30 days...

So finally found a Keeway Superlight 200cc for rent in Patong (a few years old and  about 14k km on odeo - also on sale for 49k baht), although they want to keep my original passport, there is no getting away from that for non-scooter renting here. So I am going to rent it for a few days and ride to Krabi and back and see how it goes and if I like it.

Although the battery was dead it started fairly easily manually - they are going to recharge the battery. I asked them if it is in good shape to go to Krabi and back but the two youngsters running that place know little about this bike, or anything, they just keep saying "chai", I hope it is, it looks in good condition and sounds healthy (I just think it was not used/rented for a while), no idea how good the clutch is though, is it 5 or 6 gears by the way, they don't even know that... !?

My only concern is what I do if it fails on the way or in Krabi, I hope small issues can be fixed by local mechanics, any major problem requiring parts will be a big hassle...

The Keeway Superlight 200 is equipped with a 5-speed gearbox.

  18. We have two fiber optic cables running from our office to another workshop (shophouse) that is down the street. Not sure how far it is. One is just for network connection and the other is a dedicated 10GB fiber cable to we use to backup our server.

We first found it very difficult to find anybody to do the cable for us, until we came to the idea that the big Internet provider companies also use external contractors to install the fiber cable. After we saw a pickup from a 3BB installer we asked him for his mobile number and explained what we wanted. It was no problem and 3 days later we had 2 fiber optic cables from our office/workshop to our second workshop.
