  1. Many years back on my first overseas trip to Nias which at the time and maybe still is a malria hot spot. I got advice by a well travelled mate to start taking garlic capsules months before and during my trip. I did and I still do. One of my travelling companions contracted malaria while we there and has never been the same since and another ended up with a massive ulcer on his right ankle from a coral nick that he'd got, he had to hobble out of there on hand made crutches, spent about a week in Penang, before flying back home.To this day my advice is the same as I got many years back and I know to this day that it has saved my arse from all sorts of nasties.

  2. Jaidee has got it worked out. Stay of the beer till about the last 3 holes if your having a bad day, then it's not far to the club house for a shower and air con.

Carry a sports water bottle and top up with ice and water.Always light coloured shirts, carry a sweat towel as you get saturated. I go for a change of shirt and cap at half way, makes you feel a bit better for trip back to the 18th.Stick to the shade whenever possible.

  3. Problem with a lot of clubs in Thailand is that they are a bit short in the shaft for us taller falangs and you don't know if they are the copies or not. I've had lots of trouble getting clubs to fit me so I got myself a set from the states through E-bay. After all the shipping and what not, worked out about the same price as here and they are a perfect set of Ping i 3 blade green dots.I'm in the process of getting a Taylor Made R7 Tp with a Fit On 6 shaft sent over, sought of club you can't get here and got it for a good price.

  4. Been playing here for about 3 years, mainly with my missus, who hits it alright. When playing weekends just the 2 of us, it pis## me off as we are always in a group of 2 (very rarely do Thais want to join and make a 4) and spend most of the day waiting. Would be great to get a social group organised. Play with falangs as Thais have no idea and cheaper green fees playing in a group.

Anyone up for it mail me........... [email protected]

  5. Um lets see, may be he will get a job at the other honest company Ample Rich this will serve as a good reference!!!

He is a criminal and all criminals are the same ... and the sympathy shown in some of the posting is plainly disgusting ... it really shows that some of you are just as bad as that english man... it shows the indifference of you lot when it does not affect you directly and sympathise with "common country men" even when evil

I am a happy farang with a lovely Thai wife living in this beautifu country and I wish those booze drinking, loud and impolite scam artists coming from all over the world (but a lot are anglosaxon though) would go somewhere else (like to your local pub and scam them poeple locally). your lot is not helping this image of cheap scams (alledgedly only committed by Thai people and not by respectful UK or other residents)

i hope i did not offend too many people at Thaivisa.com, but I needed to vent my frustration about these postings

  6. You have a point, they could have named it something that foreigners can pronounce and remember, since it's mostly foreigners using the airport.

    Careful guys

The new airport was named by HM The King

I come from NZ and we have many Maori place names which are difficult for foreigners to pronounce but they have not been changed

    poom

    Not that difficult really

    Well done "flightless".

Was wondering how you pronounced the name of the joint.

  7. How can you take these annual missives seriously? The real epedemic is one of Thai indifference and downright stupidity. Bad habits that are part of their "tradtion", standing water everywere, a drainage system that is nothing more than a bad joke coupled with their belief that splashing water liberally around makes their home and yard "clean". Their only chance is to lift their game and for this I would give up on the adults and educate the children fully on environmental issues. It worked in western societies over 30 years ago, but in LOS where children "know nothing" and are taught to shut up and not express thenselves, fat chance until they take over.

Trouble is the kids are educated by the adults without intrusion from outsiders, nasty little circle, heh!

  8. Been smoking tooooo... long, 15 to 20 a day since I was 16 and now I'm 44.Gave up for 1 year before coming to Thailand. Cheap smokes, going to pool bars and drinking more than normal didn't help increase consumption of the dreaded cancer sticks. Not looking for excuses for my weakness.

    It's time to give up.

    'Sign me up, Scotty.'

  9. Im just thinking about  how we won world war 2, we were losing until the Americans nuked the Japs........................................

Good one mate, the Japs were well and truely beaten by that stage and the Yanks wanted unconditional surrender, couldn't get it, so what do they do, drop a heap of nukes. Still the most dispicable acts known to mankind. And that mentality still continues to this day.

    ............................ :o

  10. :o  Without sounding callous,i really hope it does mean cheaper airfares and cheaper hotels, bars etc.Does anyone know if its actually Phuket that got wiped out,i mean is it where the bars are?

Mate of mine in Phuket said it was just the 200 meters from the beach that was trashed, everything else is ok. BGs have fled to the hills with their gold but will be back when the somtam runs out.

Never fear Phuket and surrounds will rise from the destuction and be as profitable as ever for all involved, not too sure about Kaolak though, could be awhile.

  11. Very interested about the Visa extension in Chiangmai, was that for a 3 month ext. as I've got to do one soon and not to keen on some of the other options, expense, hassle and all the rest. Fill me in.

On the issue of influencing an election, well not as silly as it sounds, if you do the numbers as previously stated on this link, teachers have a lot of political punch regarding their students and colleagues. We pay our taxes and some times more than the average Thai, but get nought for it, on top of all that, the visa and work permit quagmire, the falang rip off at any chance mentality and the all round rascist attitude towards falangs by a certain percentge of the population. So it's time for blue blooded falangs to say well, enoughs, enough and we can change our lot by using our interlect in the classroom and the staffroom and the workplace for that matter. Eventhough, Thai's being the apathetic bunch they are when it comes to politics and social issues, it could take some time. I know, it's taken me 2 years with my wife to seen the light, but as she says what are the alternatives :D:o:D Ahhhh! NONE OF THE ABOVE. Nothing wrong with a protest vote, isn't that what fair and democratic elections are all about.

  12. If the 5 year visa is true it will be good, but will it cost nearly 10,000 baht, and will we have to have 2 million baht (5 * 400,000) or 4 million baht (5 * 800,000 for retirement) to apply for it?  Even a reduction in paperwork would be a help.

I recently applied for my visa extension at Chiang Mai.  There was nobody waiting, I was in and out inside 10 minutes and there were not so many staff as usual inside the office.  When I asked why, I was told that there has been a decline in the number of applications.  Don't know if this is true or not.  This Is Thailand and I have learnt not to believe everything that Immigration tells me.

  13. OK this guy does give us aussies a bad name, but I can see where he's coming from. What's the option, back home with all those strapping and strapping on aussie sheilas. Poor bugger, he's been intoxicated by the Thai femme fatale syndrome and there's no way out. Dreams do come true, but not this type without the cash.
