  1. Me too, on a standard British licence at PhraKanong (about Suk 93 ish.)

Official British licence (paper without photograph) was sufficient for me to obtain a Thai licence from the Surin licence office without a test (other documents were required).

  2. 1) My old DP was issued in Ukraine in 1992 (the problem that it's on Russian).

    2) There no expiry date (it's old so it was fullfilled with handwriting).

    3) I have work permit and Non B visa.

    4) Yes, I do.

I'm recognise that it's illegal, but...

Now I'm afraide even to go to gas station. That it's why I'd like to check possible scenario before to get into the troubles (and of course before to get Thai DP).

Will it helpful if I got translation from Ukrainian Embassy?

I cannot imagine that a Ukraine licence hand written in Russian will be of any use whatsoever. A translation will not be adequate unless it's an actual IDP. I don't think there is any legal way around your problem whilst you are in Thailand other than taking a Thai driving test.

  3. It depends on a number of factors:

    1) In which country was your driving licence issued?

    2) What is the expiry date?

    3) Which type of visa do you have?

    4) Have you a "permanent" residence in Thailand?

The best way to proceed is to obtain a Thai driving licence. However, if you don't have the necessary visa/extension then an IDP is the legal way to go.

  4. The banks here in Surin have safe deposit boxes, or at least the Kasikorn does as I have one of theirs. Approximately 400 mm x 100 mm x 600 mm = Bht 560.00 p.a.

  5. Did any of you actually read the article? They are not talking about green spaces and parks, but "green" from enviromental initiatives.

Yes, the sub-title of the article does read "Here's the top 15 cities and few runners up who have made the most impressive strides toward eco-friendliness and sustainability." (My highlighting).

I still can't say I agree with their findings though.

  6. Last time I was there (this year), the Thais were charging Bht 400 per farang for access through the National Park. The vehicle was Bht 30 and the adult Thais, Bht 20.

In addition, we were told that the Khmers would charge a further Bht 300 per farang to visit the sanctuary.

My suggestion would be to by-pass Khow Pravihaarn and visit Phnom Rung instead. The sanctuary at Phnom Rung is better maintained and the cost for a farang is Bht 40 (car parking free).

  7. It is best to either indicate the size of the truck when telling the price or to quote prices for dirt by the cubic metre since dump trucks can vary in size..I've bought dirt in 2 cubic metre trucks and in 4 cubic metre trucks and in a post above a 12 cubic yard truck (probably cubic metres and not yards) was mentioned.

    Chownah

Absolutely, I'd be really interested to know how big the 200Baht trucks were :o

Up here in the North East, a Bht 200.00 to 300.00 truck load is 4 cm (loose, compacting to 3.2 cm). The trucks are four wheelers. The six wheelers carry around 6 cm loose. We don't generally have eight and ten wheelers up here so I'm not sure of their capacity. A six wheeler with a four wheel trailer may carry 10 to 12 cm all up.

  8. A friend asked me today what documents were required by the Amphur in order to legally marry a Thai.

It's many years since I married and my memory is somewhat vague. Also it is possible that the requirements have changed. Does anyone have a up to date list of the documents required and the language they should be in?

  9. Neither one of us could figure out why she left the tails on in a pizza!

It is said that leaving on the tail shell prevents the prawn from shriveling during the cooking. However, prawns on a pizza I think would have been precooked.

Eating lobster with a party of Chinese in Hong Kong. They put the whole pieces in their mouths, crunch up the shell to get at the meat then spit the shell out (usually on the floor).

  10. I cannot say this is country wide but I had a recent experience as follows (translated from the Thai so ....):

We had some vandal damage to a number of panels on our truck, not unsightly particularly but didn't look good. We asked the insurance representative about the loss of our 'no claims' and he said there would be no problem if the repair did not exceed the premium. However, he advised us that our premium was due six weeks later so we should wait until after then to claim as they did not have much money in the coffers at the time. TiT!

PS: We changed insurance companies when the premium was due.

  11. I would say it would be slightly cheaper per square metre floor area to build a two storey dwelling.

I agree to some extent that the cost of the second floor could equate to the cost of the roof and also the columns need to be beefed up for two storeys.

However, there is still 1/2 bathrooms and 1 kitchen in either dwelling and these tend to be the most expensive rooms.

The cost of the land is another matter.
