OXO beef stock cubes!! did you buy in Thai or have them posted from home?
As far as I am aware, they are not available in Thailand. Those in the picture were posted from UK. We are also lucky in the Surin area that many farangs travel to and from the UK during the year and are happy to pick up small items of ingredients that we miss here.
My latest 'courier' is bringing "Atora Suet Dumpling Mix". Perfect for the cold winter nights here.

nicely written vic.
I used to love sitting out in the garden mid afternoon, watching the rain clouds form and roll over us, before retreating to the shelter of the covered terrace to watch the rains falling. Fantastic, awe inspiring cloud formations.
Still, I preferred Leo.
I agree with you that drinking Leo is preferable to drinking rainwater.

Are your really that tight arsed??
In your home country you would PAY people to take the things away.
Give me a break, and pay he poor Thai guy who collects them.
An old colleague of mine used to describe me as "careful".
Then qualified it as "careful as a crab's @rsehole!".

erm, right. There's a great new invention. It's called, "7-11". You go into a "7-11" and they sell beer by the bottle! I realise that this may seem radical - but I think it's an idea that could catch on...
Only at certain times of the day
Very good point. My wholesaler sells beer whenever she is open (09:00 - 18:00).

How long could it take 2 people to drink 10 boxes of tea?
I could hazard a guess as to how long it will take one person to drink 6 cases of Archa.

Much too radical for me! It's a bit like putting 2 litres of diesel in the tank. I attempt at all times to minimise the effort by buying 6 cases at a time.

jayenram and totster: have you ever thought about buying 1 bottle - just to try it! You don't have to buy beer by the box all the time!
My wholesaler would think I'd gone doolally!

Whenever visibility is low, whether it be mist, rain or cloud cover, I use my headlights. Never been stopped.

looks like I'm in a minority of 1 then! It's around 4% which is average for Scottish beers - maybe I am genetically pre-disposed to like it then!
As far as I remember:
*Chang* - 6.4% abv
Archa - 5.4% abv
*Chang* Draught - 4. something abv
*Chang* Lite - 4.2% abv

Whilst cooling my heals in darkest Issan I decided to try some different beers, for a change. I purchased a bottle of Chang Light and was so surprised at what I got. It is a good light-tasting beer that has really crisp taste. I am a convert. No more will I suffer the inevitible splitting hangover.
Beer Chang Light for me!!
It's been out for over a year and I still haven't tried it. What put me off originally was the Bht 500.00 plus price tag. Tried the *Chang* draught (in bottles!) but found that to be virtually tasteless. I'll stick to the Archa at Bht 250.00.

The one item that appeared well out for up country is rent.
According to the calculator, renting a small house 'up country' should cost Bht 15,000 p.m. I know of no-one around here who pays more than Bht 5,000 p.m.
I'd also dispute the cost of "cheap beer". The calculator uses Bht 35 per 'drink' which I assume is a pint (640 ml) bottle. I'd better speak to the F*t G*t on this one.

What per say is the “Dark Side” of Surin? Will it get me into trouble with my Thai girlfriend?….haha
It certainly will!

I'll never forgive you for posting those pictures, SJ. The warmth and happiness in my family has just gone to ratshit!

Excellent piccies Yorky. About the size i am wanting to build and still looks great after 6 years. Did you project manage yourself or just get a good builder to take charge start to finish? Also, did you buy the plans from the gov't or design yourself?
I bought the plans from a local architect (Bht 4,500) and then made a few changes, mainly increasing room sizes. I "project managed" the construction myself and it was hard w*rk. I paid a foreman and craftsmen/labour by the day and bought all the materials myself so I had no worries about "hidden extras".

Did you have wooden windows in before . what was the reason for changing to Alluminium
Yes. Wooden windows for five years but they were warped and the driving rain was getting in. Had them changed for aluminium. 5 No @ 1.80m x 1.00m, 5 No @ 1.20m x 1.00m - cost Bht 34,000.00. Sold the old wooden windows for Bht 5,000.00.

I don't know how I managed to miss this thread, BoJ.
I have placed the construction pictures of my house in a gallery here:
http://gallery.thaivista.net/thumbnails.php?album=15
Starting from a green field site to the finished structure. Build cost in the order of Bht 800,000 in 2000.
