Thai Government Debates Alcohol Advertising, Sales Hours
loong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It is not the logo on a soda water. The adverts for soda/mineral water with the same name as the big beer brands, keep the brand name familiar. This means that the brewers sell more of their beers. Don't ask me why, because I don't know, but I do know that the advertisers know what works. -
Fruits and vegetables are always expensive if you buy them in the supermarkets. In the Thai markets fruit prices are pretty much seasonal. At the moment oranges start at 20 Baht/kilo. Veg in the market can fluctuate from day to day, but mostly quite stable. Toms at the moment can be 50 Baht/kilo 1 day and 20 Baht the next. Good size bundles of Chinese Kale are 10 Baht. Carrots are always cheap.

Phuket motorbike drivers demand compensation after drunken crash

Difficult to make out in the photo. The motorcyclists are on the wrong side of the road? It appears to be a child standing in the road, so did the driver swerve to avoid him/her? -

Amazing photo! They managed to get every single person in it looking bored stiff. I think that the photographer must have said "Say Jeez" instead of "say cheese". -
I always assumed that sugar is used during the brewing process. Ie. yeast consumes sugar and produces alcohol. Of course, my assumption could be wrong.

If they are ready to announce measures , why don't they just announce the full details? -

Why do they mess up simple calculations so often in these news items? The conversion to $ should be in billions, not millions. -
So you obviously DO believe that the PM has amassed 1 billion baht in a few months by corrupt practices in his position as PM! I believe that it is much more likely that he was wealthy before he became PM!

Thai man saves 300,000 baht in six months by stocking 50-baht notes
loong replied to webfact's topic in Central Thailand News
That makes sense as a method of saving. The fish guy's method makes no sense at all! He sells a fish for x baht. He then changes that x baht into 50 baht notes. I assume that means a trip to the bank as 50 baht notes are not that common. He puts those notes in a bucket. He is averaging close to 2000 baht per day so this must involve a fair amount of hassle. After 6 months he has 6000 50 baht notes that he probably needs to change into larger denominations. He could have just opened a savings account and paid the money into the account instead of changing it into 50 baht notes! -
My question was "Do you think that his wealth is somehow related to his position as PM?" I asked this because that is what you appeared to imply in your earlier post. I think that it would be impossible to amass that wealth through graft in the few months that he has been PM.

Why do you say that? Do you think that his wealth is somehow related to his position as PM?

I don't get it! Why the need to change the money to 50 Baht notes? Just save the money in whatever notes it happens to be. -

Alcohol Wholesalers Hit By Weak Holiday Season Sales
loong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well New year is still more than a week away and, in my experience, very few places stock up well in advance. You may have some people celebrating at Christmas in the tourist areas, but it isn't really a Thai thing.
