Covid: Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs work against Indian variant - study
"The Pfizer and AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccines are highly effective against the variant identified in India after two doses, a study has found.
Two jabs of either vaccine give a similar level of protection against symptomatic disease from the Indian variant as they do for the Kent one.
...
The Pfizer vaccine was found to be 88% effective at stopping symptomatic disease from the Indian variant two weeks after the second dose, compared with 93% effectiveness against the Kent variant.
The AstraZeneca jab was 60% effective against the Indian variant, compared with 66% against the Kent variant.

The Pfizer numbers above look very good. However, I don't know if I'd say the AZ vaccine being 60% effective against the Indian variant two weeks after the second dose as "highly effective." But, better than 50%, and better than nothing.
The reason why AZ has lower % after second shot is that with AZ they had more older people in the test. So that brought it automatically down

Because at that time, Sinovac wasn't recommended for those above 60 years old and he's 66 years old.
One shouldn't mix two different technologies because we don't know the side effects and effectiveness of mixing.
Astrazeneca and Sinovac both use different technologies.
The second shot should be taken 2-3 weeks after first shot so why is he taking it after 2 months?
For second shot from AZ when they started vaccinating it was set at 4 weeks but then they found out by waiting much longer the immunity was much higher so now they inject in Europe after 12 weeks.
But for the new varriants like the Indian one UK finished full test for AZ and pfizer and found that after 1st shot immnity was only 33% so it is a must to get the 2nd shot so UK reduced the time from 12 to 8 weeks
Now here in Thailand, even after till test results came out, the government just said to wait 16 weeks for second shot of AZ. Totally insane they act.

Received mine from CW yesterday. Almost 6 weeks.
OP do your report by mail. You have time. Easy.
What all documents are needed to do by post?
Any cash money?

When is your report due? You might still be able to it by mail.
The date is 29th of May
Never have done with post
What all documents are needed?
Copies? Money inside? Or it free?
Thanks in advance

Is there a specific reason why you can't submit the report yourself.
You don't need an agent, a friend can submit it on your behalf.
If the office would be in the city sure would go. But it outside bkk. All immigration offices are extremely far away.
Mass gathering is also not a place i want to go to these days. I'm over 60 years old and risk patient
-
Does someone knows a good cheap agent who can do 90 day reporting fast and well done he in BKK. I'm not over time but tried online on app and on laptop and it not accept.
Looking for good agent at good price here in Bangkok. I live Silom area. Can take bus mrt bts if none around this area

How about the Pfizer, Sputnik vaccines?? We don;t hear anything about it anymore. Only Sinovac seems to be available..
Yeah not hear anything anymore from those 10-20 million Pfizer, and mass Sputnik order. Only the worst vaccine available in the world they want more and more as the Co owners is 20% by Thai family from CENTRAL. Medipharm the other Chinese vaccine is much much better and high protection. But zero interested in that one. Brown envelopes not thick enough there.

A million a month?? While better than nothing, at that rate all of greater Bangkok will not get the vaccine until next year while the rest of us get to sit back and wait. Not moving fast enough.
Total bkk population is bit over 10 million. So 70/80% is 7/8 months. Not that bad I would say

It is always a tough medical decision. It is an unknow territory because no Vaccines has proven the duration of its immunity and how it will work when mixing type of vaccines. that will be more studies,.
The worst scenario, there may be some kind of a booster by the end of year. That would help.
There might not be. There will be. Moderna and Pfizer have already a booster and are testing now. Ready by September October and to normally get vaccinated by year end. Also modena is working on a yearly 2 in 1 vaccine for next year. Flu and covid one shot yearly

I plan to get vaccinated again, even though I have had 2 jabs of Moderna. Getting a different type of vaccine later this year may both extend my immunity and give me wider protection against future mutations.
Or I might die from the combination.
Moderna is already prity far with a booster vaccine where the varriants will be in. Will be ready by approx September October. For future they are working on a yearly flu and covid vaccine all in one

Thousand % sure this is pure manipulated lie from extreme corrupt government. Last few weeks they try to find a way how to let pass all orders from private hospitals true them without blaming them. The easy way. Blame the companies itself. Now brown envelopes can even be thicker. And yeah delivery much much slower. But that these monkeys zero care about. First the money. Then maybe saving Thai lives

Have you remembered that AZ needs 2 jabs per person? It would take 8 months!
And if AZ which most will get once available by Siam in June-July if not more delay the second shot is now 8 to 12 weeks after first.
As then get proven more immunity

70% of 66,000,000 people = 46,200,000 people /50,000 jabs per day = 924 days /365 days per year = 2.5 years to vaccinate 70% of the population.
What about the other 30%?
Migrants illegally entering Thailand?
Tourists?
Read the title: 70% of Bangkok population. 10.700.000 / 70% is 7490000/ 50000= 150 days meaning if start June/ July they busy till December easily
Sure forget tourism in 21. Somewhere half 22 maybe

It goes higher when wait longer for second shot but The big problem are all new varriants where some are really much less working. I not say it won't help but the risk to get infected is prity high and will get worse as more and more varriants are coming.
That why I'll do everything to get a one who had high protection from begin as also these are losing %.
That the reason also why most are working hard on a 3rd booster shot for end this year

Not sure where you get your figures from, but I will take AZ at 100% effective against severe Covid.
From WHO website

Will be the AZ produced by Siam bioscience which I not much trust. And AZ has only 63% protection and is less effective even with the new variants, UK included. Also they only will start in June so prity sure foreigners will be maybe August-Seprember
For me if Pfizer, Moderna which are both over 90% or even J&J over 70% and that one already proven that UK variant works then I'll just go and pay for any of these

Is the decline exponential?
No it not. This is 4 conservative day it's going down. If continues like that in following days then I think they start getting it under control.
The biggest problem of mass spreading now are the field hospitals. Where mass of poz people are packed together asymptomatic but most will have lower immune system. Also many with different varriants so easy to infect others and then they get really ill and need go hospital. Most people in hospitals come from there
It total wrong way to work. All these should be in self isolation at home and hollowed up

Has anybody seen any very recent up to date details of when the local production of the AZ vaccine will be available for inoculations?
Zero. Siam bioscience keeps extremely quiet. This little Co who has no experience in vaccines and zero in mass production not want come out with any update of the production. The only thing you hear is delaying the date the first will be ready. First it was May now it's July-August. And I won't trust that vaccine at all. DID THEY FOLLOW ALL THE CORRECT MANUFACTORY STEPS???
Real big question with zero answer or could be manipulated one as you cannot say anything bad of a Royal ownership

I wonder if things get desperate, if Thailand would pull and India and refuse to export the vaccines until the population is vaccinated?
I'm asking this question because the AZ vaccine has proven, in Europe, to be difficult to manufacture compared to the mRNA ones. Europe has been reporting a big shortfall in AZ vaccines.
Not at all. Its very easy to make in mass production and very cheap.
AZ didn't organize all well. In factories to increase production. That was a real big big mess
Then the products to make the vaccines most come from USA. And the white house stopped total export from all these products. Same big problem at the Indian world biggest vaccine factory. They could not manufacture in full capacity because no products. And AZ has even not been approved by FDA and they won't.
Yesterday the white house lifted the ban on export and also will export to many different countries the 60 million vaccines sleeping in AZ company

Easy to resolve the bed shortage problem. Don't admit Covid-19 +ve patients to Hospital who don't actively need treatment. Perhaps enforce home quarantine if possible or have huge Field Quarantine Units.
These huge field hospitals are real mass spreading centers. People are covid poz but no symptoms. But sure many immune system is bit weaker and many many different varriants are there with people packed together. Not real social distancing. Not want even think about bathrooms and toilets. Many getting extra infected from other varriants many getting more ill and need to go hospital.
Stop all this bul<deleted> and let all asymptomatic people stay home in self quarantine like in most countries happening.
These are real mass breading grounds

Another dangerous point government decided to do is wait 16 weeks for second shot AZ. Totally wrong as the test also found that for both vaccines after first shot only 33% immunity. And only after second it goes up a lot. That why UK just reduced the time between. This results are all for Indian varriant
