  1. Another misplaced government issue. This offer is available in all areas, but it is not regulated carefully enough. Who checks the person reportedly making the purchase ? Do they complete a means test ? There are both Thai's and foreigners living here that are cheating the system, what a suprise. They get a hugely discounted price and then complete the purchase in cash rather than on credit. Aid for the poorer people who could otherwise not afford to buy a car, no way.

  2. I'll coment whilst realising that nothing will change. The aticle states that the smog will start to clear in April when " slash and burn " stops. Slash and burn is " illegal " but the authorites can't or don't want to control or stop it. Yesterday there was a large area of land set on fire right on the edge of Mae Sariang town centre. Everyone was complaining, smoke was everywhere. What happened, nothing.

  3. Fully understand but I've never been a lover of resorts. I have lived in Mae Sariang in the Mae Hong Son district for a few years now but can understand the diminishing value for English tourists, as it also effects my monthly private pension payments. The Thai government should take time to think about the value of the Thai baht as they rely heavily on tourism from the west, which if they do nothing, will rapidly diminish.

  4. Me too.

It works nicely!! let's leave it be!

I can't understand all these prats who bleat on about 'corruption' all day.

I bung the girls at the tax 1000 B a year and they do it all for me including me bonuses.

it's great. The only people who moan don't live here.

What a load of selfish twaddle, you're proud to cheat your way through life, how sad. by the way I live in Thailand, I'm not a prat but maybe this term is apt for you.

  5. I've lived in Mae Sariang for two and a half years. Although not a qualified teacher and not utilising more traditional methods, I have taught a few Thai people here, both youngsters and the not so young, basic English skills and still help them to develop their language skills through every day chats. Initially teaching individual words and moving on to phrases and sentences. The chance to teach some more would be nice, but so far my applications have been rejected. Can anyone in this area assist with possible contacts or vacancies ?

  6. Strange culture where speaking English is common in conversation when I speak with Thai people, I've learned to speak and understand some Thai. I'm as English as they come, having lived and worked in and around the London area for several decades. Living in North West Thailand for a few years now in a fairly small, bustling and prosperous town. Apart from passing on experience and business skills I was not in the teaching profession. I have enjoyed helping some of the school children here, in various local and district English speaking competitions and have also taught two local thirty year Thai friends, not just to talk and understand English, but to write it quite well.

These experiences have been extremely enjoyable and I am pleased to have helped. However despite visits to several of the local schools and NGO's to ask for part time work teaching children, healthy and some less fortunate, I have been unsuccessful. I've met a few of the " English Teachers " at some of the schools and unfortunately have to agree with the comments of others on the site, that if the teachers can't speak reasonable English, what chance do the children have.

  7. Hi all. I live in Mae Sariang. I bought my wife a Honda Scoopy a couple of years ago. She's had a couple of scapes and I like motors to be perfect. I am unable to find a repair shop that's prepared to tidy up the bike without replacing all the damaged panels and trim. I can do a little myself and want to fill and rub down the damaged areas, then spray them with an aerosol.

So far I cannot find anyone to supply a colour matched aerosol. Can anyone please help. Many thanks.

  8. As an English guy living in the North West, I am fully behind the spirit of a " splashy " Song Gran. The young children enjoying the

" water chucking " and using their water pistols is good to see and always makes me smile. I do feel however that the older lads take things too far. Yesterday early evening I witnessed three or four youths, who were very unsteady on their feet, actually standing in the road and stopping cars. Trying to open the doors and soak the drivers and passengers. This is irresponsible, very intimidating for the people in the car, and extremely dangerous for other road users. So long live the spirit, let the children have fun, but respect should be given to all.

  9. Hi my name is Oliver.

I am English, 61 years old with a Thai wife and live in Mae Sariang in the Mae Hong Son district. Despite having no official teaching qualifications, I have the commitment and patience and would love the opportunity to teach English to the Thai children at a local school. How do I make contact with the authorities to apply for a teaching post ?

    Many thanks.
