Getting "intubated" sounds a bit gruesome though - wonder what that translates too?

I'm an unsophisticated eater and easy to please.
Bangers and mash. Punch and Judy, Thepprasit Soi 8.

Whether the BIB was fact or fiction (I suspect fiction), I'm concerned that your wife didn't try and negotiate the amount down.
Also concerned hat she didn't ask for firm proof that it was a genuine situation - such as a photograph of the scene, or a video call with the BIB. Every Thai girl worth their salt has video apps on their phone.

My pickup has over 60,000Km on the clock (I just had the service) and is 17 months old. I have them change the filter at every service, and I’ve spent a total of THB 10,125 for service. If I break the cost of service cost down by time, it’s about THB 20.0/day or THB 600/month. I spend more than that having it washed.
Also worth noting is that fuel costs THB 2.3 per Km, and service costs THB 0.17/Km, so fuel costs 35 times as much as the service.
Yeah, let’s cheap out on the service!
I don’t get it. It reminds me of a guy that has $5,000 worth of gear and spends $2,000 to go fishing, and then squeaks at spending $20 for new line.
You make some good points. Most engines appreciate being looked after and the filter change at regular intervals will give you improved mileage and performance as well.
Re your fishing mate - I've got one that spent 60k on golf clubs, spends 8-10k a week playing golf, and buys the cheapest nastiest second hand balls he can find.

Happens in many bars in Patts/Jomtien. They even give a little certificate of donation, even has an expiry date.
The first stop the scammers make is at the local BIB office to let them know they're operating in the area. PC's are confiscated and the BIB act as intermediaries. Of course, the BIB get their cut. Local rumour is 30-50%, depends on how scared the "perpetrator" is or how foolish they are. Have heard of it being north of 50k on a few occasions. 20-30k seems the norm though.
It's usually the bar owners Thai wife that does the negotiating. Sometimes it's a trusted Thai friend or staff member. Not unheard of for the negotiator to take a slice of the pie as well.
Or even better - one guy gets it negotiated down to 20k and gets a phone call from wife to bring the money. He gives a new staff member the money to go to the cop shop and pay the music police and get the PC. Staff member got permanently lost on the way...............TIT !.

How long before one of our fruitloop TV naysayers manages to pin this on the Thai bloke for parking his boat on the beach?
I'm still holding out for the blame being laid on the railing heights of Thai balconies or that someone didn't pay tea money or that Hitler's picture was displayed on the boat. I'm pretty sure those three things alone are to blame for 90% of the bad things that happen here to otherwise blameless farangs according to the resident gurus.
No no it can NEVER be a Thais fault, just ask any Thai.
Sigh............

What kind of motorbike was he driving since he could be thrown 50 meters from impact..
Any kind of bike. It's a complex calculation with lots of variables, but a throw of 50m after colliding with a stationary object implies a speed in the region of 65 klm/h at impact. Not really that fast.
your kidding right, 65k crash equals 50mt throw as you Put it, Perhaps you could outline your calculations, this idiot was cruising to say the least to be thrown 50m
Here's a link with the calculations - fill your boots. http://www.tarorigin.com/art/Arich/
Throw plus slide, particularly in the wet, would be around 50m at approximately 65klm/h if hitting a stationary object head on, subject to the variables in the equation. I've high-sided at slow speeds like that and wound up more than 50M from launch point. Also wound up a lot closer due to different circumstances.
Anyway, we don't have enough information to confirm his speed. He may have hit the trailer a glancing blow, maybe he got the brakes on before impact.....too many unknowns.

They're a week short of a year. It's up to you if you want to pay them more than their legal entitlement or not.
If you do pay the higher amount and are scared of future ramifications, set an internal HR rule that you will pay the higher severance in future only if time served is within say, 30 days of the next trigger point, and only at the company's discretion.
That way, a precedence is set but you have the policy documented to give you full control.

I don't see the problem, your cousin wanted his friend 'tenant in common' to become sole owner of the appartment when he ( your cousin) died.
Your cousin's friend has posession of the appartment, though seems not to have had the title officially transfered to their name.
Now a will has turned up in favour of the friend you say your cousin wanted to be the beneficiary of his estate.
Where's the problem?
That's how I read it too, perhaps our OP could clarify if that is indeed the case.
If so it's just some legal tidying up needed (and probably a fee at the land office).
Yeah I'm a bit confused too. Is it possible there are two "friends" in the story?

I have a Camry which is now almost 5 years old but has only 32.000 km.
I suspect that they would like to do a 60.000 km service next time when it is in the garage.
As long this is a normal service i don't care how they call it but if this is one of the big intervals with for example belt change i will pass as this only has to be done when you really are doing the mileage.
Rubbish, belt changes especially the "Timing Belt" are very time dependent as the belt rubber hardens, like tyres.
Failure to change can result in catostrophic engine failure if they break. I just paid $AUD1800 to have it done on wifes 2006 Holden Vectra (Opel/Vauxhall) with 35000Km in Perth
AUD1800 for a cam belt change sounds a bit over the top. Did they do anything else at the same time?
It would cost about $400 in New Zealand for labour and the belt.

Throw in some Dire Straits, Boomtown Rats, Stones, The Jam, The Kinks, The Who, Bruce Spingsteen, CCR, Bob Segar and some Bay City Rollers, and I might come for a listen.
BCR, yeah right!
the "your age is showing" brigade
on a side note, springsteen and segar (sic), really?
The " sic erat scriptum" brigade. . Chai.......jing jing. Mee ban haa mai?

"...which seems to make more sense."To read the story, it places the blame for the accident firmly at the motorbike's door. I'm not condoning the Russian's actions, but I'm guessing he felt the pick-up driver was at fault, which seems to make more sense.
Certainly it does. The pick-up driver must have been at fault. I wasn't there and know nothing about the incident, but from my lofty perch of omniscience I can easily see the pick-up driver was Thai and therefore at fault.
And the story seems to blame the Russians for insulting the police. Clearly the police were at fault for butting in.
Case closed. Next!
The "I'm guessing" judge presiding.
Every single thread and every single post you ALWAYS without a fail defend a Thai.
Any reason why Thai is always right in your books?
The uaual reason for defending thais is the apologists have a thai wife, or in love with a thai
Do you regret misspelling "Monger" as your handle?

I will write what many should have written here:
Darn, I wonder what happened there....
That's true, but then it wouldn't be TV would it. They never let the facts (or lack thereof) get in the way of a good speculative rant or push their own little obscure barrows.
Nobody's bothered to blame the imaginary dog that ran across the road and caused this particular incident yet.....but hey, wait long enough and somebody will do it, and then they'll probably bemoan the traits of Thai dogs versus Russian dogs and whether the Russian dogs have licences or not.

Did he have the classic "fresh off the boat" look, combined with the "possum caught in the headlight" look? Wearing a Chang singlet, baggy cargo shorts, flip-flops and ankles covered in mozzie bites?
I saw a flock of them on Beach Road last night, most of them heading towards the
shearing shed,I mean, Walking Street.- 10

I do recall reading about a similar scam somewhere but forget the details. I do know it involved sending something by post or it may have been import tax or something.
I remember it was the staff at the department (PO or Tax) that were doing a bit of freelance scamming on farang. They were eventually caught when somebody questioned one of their superiors. Sorry - vague on detail.
Anyway, you've got your gear so no worries. If it is a genuine undercharge then they'll persist. I'd make sure you deal with somebody higher than the person who called you if they do persist and try and get cash off you.

You're on the right track. Read the books and do your own web based research to gain some education about your choices and associated risks.
When you've gained the basic knowledge, you're in a better position to ask questions, listen to advice that will be a mixed bag, and make your own decisions.
In the meantime, I'm considering a startup company that needs a few million - tinned som-tam for all the Thai girls living in farangland. PM me for details and my bank account number so you can transfer the cash.
Seriously - gain some basic understanding of investment strategies is the best policy before you ask all us hacks on TV.
Wow, tinned som-tam! Now there's an investment possibility if I ever saw one!
I realize I have to do my own research, just wanted to hear from some here in general...thanks!
Unfortunately tinned som-tam doesn't pass the bio hazard standards in most western countries. Export potential is slim at best.

If she's elderly she will definitely be older generation superstitious - much more than the younger generation. Suggest to your GF that you are considering getting a Maw-Tam to come visit you to cast a spell and protect you from her evil spirit and bad mouth - or cast a spell on her for her bad manners and causing you disharmony.
Essentially, a Maw-Tam is a Medium but in their thinking it's close to a Witch Doctor/Voodoo type belief. The older ones really believe in that sort of superstitious stuff. There are some in Pattaya and your GF will know where to find one.
Get the GF to mention it to somebody reasonably distant that can tell somebody else, that can tell somebody else, that can mention it to the old lady that you're having a Maw-Tam come see you. I think you'll find that she'll develop lockjaw pretty quick.
If she doesn't shut up, actually get the Maw-Tam to come and see you - your neighbour will be scared to death.
Edit: Or if the above is a bit dark for you, go the entirely opposite way. Get a Monk to come and bless your house (common practice in Thailand). pre-brief the Monk on the neighbour and what she's doing. Make sure the neighbour is at home and sees the Monk arrive. Talk outside with him so the old lady hears him and if he's briefed properly and has a bit of common sense, he'll say something like she'll get her comeuppance in her next life and bad karma will visit her if she persists. She'll overhear, problem solved.
When in Rome and all that - consult a lawyer in Farangland, consult a Witch Doctor or a Monk in Thailand.
The two Thai options are a damn sight cheaper - 1,000 baht should see you right.

reminds me of Miss Prunesti, who taught Latin in 7th grade. She was probably 27 or 28 and for some reason... she never knew that the front of her desk did not extend down far enough to secure her modesty. we had full view of her legs and the occasional crotch shot. my buddies and I were always in the front row in that class.
We had one too - Miss Gunther teaching English. We went one step further and sabotaged her chair so it couldn't be raised that extra 2 inches. She always criticised us for slouching in our seats before we knackered the chair.

You'd have to have an extremely weak signal to require a booster if you're only splitting once. I've done a 4 way split on satellite and never needed a booster - in fact loss of quality is not even noticeable.
If you have satellite and cable (i.e Sophon), both TV's can change the cable channels independently if you have a pair of splitters set up properly. Unfortunately if you only have one box for Truevisions or whatever, all Tv's are stuck with the same channel. But one TV can be watching Sophon, and another can watch True with no probs.
