My experience:
1) go on a Monday if you can, usually less people
2) arrive early, around 6am
3) no problem with papers from my school.
4) no need to do seperate 90 day reporting. Only a one step process. Only additional step was to take a digital photo. (Not sure why, they took one 3 months ago already but seems to be the procedure).
take it easy, in any case you will wait a long time to get your extension done.
digital photo at immigration or bring one with you
odd u say one step process as two of my classmates said they had to do two, when then did it last month.. guess i will find out:)

Moderator please delete this got double posted by mistake
The new rule now is you cant stay more then 1 year on an ED visa, you have to leave the country every year and reset it if u want to stay in the Land of Smiles,
the days of stay up to 10 years without leaving Thailand are gone, at least under the current rules,

Maybe he is on a COOKING ED Visa and he is in the midst of an immigration test
-
When you get your paper work from your school to go outside of Thailand to apply to your ED Visa
yes there is an expiry date to do it
It should be right on the MOE documents itself and it depends how long it takes to get it back to you
I believe it was about 3 or 4 weeks if memory serves me correct as I just did it in August and my school warned me of the date on the MOE document
and said you got to do it before this date, which I believe at the time was about 3 weeks
-
It will depend on how committed you are to learning your chosen subject. If you are motivated then I guess 5 days a week should be OK. Perhaps some weekend study may help as well.
think you misread my question or I re worded it incorrectly, wasnt looking for study advice
was wondering what the standard is now for ED Visa
reason i am asking is i have a friend in Bangkok said he went to 3 schools there this week and they all told him he had to go 4 times a week 2 hours a day to satisfy ED visa requirements
I told him this was the first I have heard of this being offical
he sent me a link of one of hte schools he went too
http://www.tls-bangkok.com/english/ed-visa-1/
as can see 4 times a week, but he said he went to a handful of school that all told him the same thing
just found it interesting and was curious if Bangkok was differnet and others were soon to follow
-
This might have been covered but asking anyway
Some friends tell me if you live in Bangkok you have to go to school 4 times a week
yet if you live outside of Bangkok, such as Chon Buri, Hua Hin, Chiang Mai etc etc you only have to go two times a week
What exactly is the new rules on how much time you suppose to be in school and does being in Bangkok make a difference?
thanks
-
Hello all,
Anyone have anyone they can recommend for some one on one lessons could be up to 5 times a week
not looking for schools
I can read and write half decent but my main problem is conversations. My biggest hurdle is just trying to formulate sentences on the fly I am terrible at it.. If I can write what i want to say down on paper
first I can think of things quickly but if I just speak it seems to vanish from my head as I speak, yes I know I need to talk more, and am looking for a tutor that will really stress speaking and conversation
curious on any tutors/teachers some might know of
thanks
oh yes obviously in the Chiang Mai area, in the city , pretty flexible as i have a bike
cheers

Yes.
Drive passed the Computer Plaza on the left for about one and a half kilometres and on the left you will see a couple of rain coat specialist shops.
I have been buying my 2 piece motorbike rain wear in those shops for years. Excellent quality a sort of rubbery material not plastic, includes buttons and zips, completely rain proof, from 300 baht to 450 baht a suit. Colours, orange, dark green and black. All the suits have reflective strips on them.
Walk right into the back of the shops, all the real stuff, the proper gear is there.
Below is a Google map and street view images of the shops.
I heard about those, was told by 2 or 3 people that they quality was not so good there, like after a month or two you were dealiing with broken zippers, buttons , tears etc
but will still go and check it out. I was kind of looking for something like the image below of course with the matching pants... doesnt have to be exactly like this just similiar
-
hiya all
I have a Poncho but not a big fan of it.
Often when I drive I see a couple people zoom by in two piece rain wear
like the jacket and the rain pants ,which I would say are better for riding a motorbike etc
Anyone know of some locations where I could get have decent quality rain wear like that?
Thanks

Some consuls don't know or don't keep themselves up-to-date about the rules for extension of stay.
seems it would be a full time job these days keeping up with all the changes here

I find your post a bit confusing
ED Visa is 12 months for the Visa
Every 90 days you should get some paper work from your school which includes your lease agreement which has your address to get your extension
If you move during those 90 days on your next extension you have to give them a new lease copy and tell them you moved, if you didnt move then you just give them the old one again
You say your ED Visa expired.... not sure what you mean by that.... in the past you were able to extend your visa after 12 months and get a new full ed visa attached to it
however the rules are changing on August 29, anyone on a ED Visa that is older then 12 months has to go out of country and reset their ED Visa, people will only be allowed to stay 12 months in Thailand on ED visa
if they want to continue they got to get out and come back in.
Best to contact your school if you got some questions like that.
These are extension of stay, not visa.
Visa is the sticker that one gets a in Thai embassy or consulate.
I am aware of that
-
he did say in his original post that where he lives in Thailand lack schools
-
Some schools offer a learn online course like PLC in Pattaya, its not skype lessons but a software course you do online, it used to give you the option for ED Visa, these days I am not sure, I also never did it, was just aware of it
-
yep any questions hit me up while its fresh in my brain

Thanks!
About the letter that I'm suposed to get from some ministry and bring to the embassy when applying for the ED Visa. Is there any time limit on it? I mean, do I have to leave the country immediately when I get it or can I wait 1-2 months to match my TR Visa expiration?
There is an expiry on it
I got the paper work from MOE on August 6th or 7th
The expiry date on it was I must do it before August 29th or I had to do it again, interesting enough that is the date of new rules coming into effect, wonder if that was on purpose now that I think about it
I know when I first signed up the school said usually its 3 to 4 weeks you have to do it, its not an open ended form that you can sit on for months and months

My wife rec'd hers from Laos ( Vien. ) last month , we paid extra for the agent . I recommend paying extra for the agent unless you want to put up with the crowd hassle . I used the agent across from Pizza co on the corner with the Blue tent and red chairs . He was very good and delivered the passport to our hotel . His price was 5000 and it included the visa fee. He delivered it to our hotel .She can now piggy back on my retirement visa but will go to English school too .
We had a complete waste of time at the KL consulate a month before .Wouldn't even give a tourist visa after turning down the non O , we had all the paper work and the Muslim girl at the window enjoyed saying no . They only offered a transit visa (said we were only there a day ) wouldn't listen to the fact that we came for a non O . They need to replace the whole staff .
Looking at the large crowd at the consulate I was very happy to pay the agent .
Personally I am not a big fan of handing over my passport to some random guy in a tent... they do approach you though right out of your taxi or tuk tuk they are there trying to help you out
I declined i had everything ready and was number 11 in the line... was told by some dudes in the line that they charge around 2000 plus visa fee.... in any case I often wonder if these guys will be on the target list soon for
another visa rule, like you must apply in person or something who knows..... glad it worked out for you and i heard others have used it with no problems, I cant really say myself, the whole process for me took less then 2 hours
as for KL I have seen a number of posts that KL is a tough embassy to get a visa

First I am not totally sure on everything I dont think anyone can say they are totally sure
August 29th
The idea is they do not want people to be staying on an Education Visa for more then 12 months at a time, so people that have been in Thailand for 2 or 3 years on an ED visa have to reset
does that mean people before August 29th that just renewed their visa have to go and reset it, well I am not totally sure that is something you really got to contact your school on. There is a few people that are surely to be in the same situation as you, paying for a new renew and then this rule comes up
Tourist Visa on Arrival in Laos
1. It costs usually 30 dollars to 42 dollars , it depends on your country, Canada was the most expensive at 42 dollars and Vietnam I believe was 20 dollars, America was 30 if I can remember correctly
2. You need one passport photo for the visa or they will take one for you there for 1 dollar USD
3. They Expect you to have USD dollars already so bring the correct cash
4. Visa cost at the embassy is 2000 Baht if you have to go and reset it
5. They did not ask me for any income statements but I did have a photocopy ready of my bank account if i was
6. As for hotels i stay in one by the river, spent a little more this time as last time I was in a total dump... there is several hotels around the embassy and several more down by the river, from super dirt cheap to highly expensive
most people seem to go cheap as they might be staying only one night... i spent a bit more as i stayed for 4 days.. i went ot a disco, had 8 people haha:) hope u have better luck
as i said i will have a blog post tonight and will leave the link here on what i did, how i did it and perhaps that will help some people
addition
yes the Visa on The arrival at the airport was easy
got off plane, greeted by a staff airport employee
She gave me the form to fill out (visa form) I just put hotel name for my address and put hotel name and number for Laos contact person as well
walked up paid for it
done in 10 minutes
