I had a problem with the noisy fan also, it comes from the high rpm's. I downloaded a program called speedfan. This program lets you control the speed of the cpu fan. The fan starts up at around 38000 rpm's, I throttle it down to around 75% of speed or less and get the rpm's down to around the low 20's. Voila, quiet fan.

I am using the cheapest dual-core available, 2.8 pentium. Even with high cpu usage I have no problem with temperature with the fan throttled.

Thanks for the links, the practicallynetworked site is especially comprehensive, though it is a bit old. I haven't even seen Windows XP mentioned.

It looks like one thing I will need is some extra software, to use as the proxy. Does anyone have any recommendations for this?

How do you set up a proxy connected to the Aircard? I already have the service set to never disconnect.

I agree with Geoff, I have had this problem before and a sysem restore to an earlier time fixed it.

I am trying to set up my first LAN and am having a problem. The file sharing is working, but I cannot get a shared internet connection. It seems the IP address cannot be created. I am using the CAT CDMA aircard if it makes a difference. This connection does not have a static IP, it changes every time I reconnect.

Is a switch or hub required for internet connection sharing?

It's pretty easy. Just send the program to your phone, either through Bluetooth or cable, it should show up in your message inbox. Click on it and it should start the install process.

Who installed Windows?

I don't think these routers are available in Thailand. You can do a search for EVDO routers to see what is available elsewhere in the world.

How about a Nokia 6630 new for around 10000, if you can find it. Second hand around 6000. Only 1.3 Mp camera though. I was using it in Pattaya and was getting top download speeds of around 30KB/s with AIS, though it wasn't constant. Loads of Symbian software is available...mp3 player, movie player, web browser, lots of decent games, gps, etc.

Approx. three years ago, a game was released. It was action/strategy and was pretty popular here in Thailand, and elsewhere. It came out about the same time as Yuri/command/conquer, and was a similar concept, except you were in command of a bunch of wild hellions. I am trying to remember the name of this game....thanks

I can't get my aircard working on my PC with the pci-pcmcia adapter. I went to CAT and got a new driver, but I think there are some settings in the driver that are specific to that certain card. When I go to the "about" section of the Watcher gui, on my laptop it shows the phone number, serial number, software version, etc. On the PC this section is completely blank. And the card is not getting a signal.

I'll try looking around in the program files for something, but if anybody has any clues, please let me know.

Well,, I just downloaded the driver from CAT, but it doesn't seem to work, the CAT logo isn't on the Aircard Watcher gui, and the connection settings aren't there either. I just put a pci to pcmcia adapter in my desktop to use the aircard with. Are there any special things you need to do to get it to work?

When I installed the driver that I downloaded, it seems at least half the installation process was missing, I remember 3 or 4 different popups at the bottom when I first installed on my laptop, saying this and that had been found and installed. With this installation, only the aircard was found, and then something about an usb host controller, which then failed to install properly.

I tried 3 or 4 times, uninstalled, restart, etc. same thing.

So I think I need a copy of the driver from someones CD...PLEASE!

The new price for the 580 aircard is 12,900. At least it is here in Nakhon si Thammarat and Surat Thani. My consistent download speed is around 150KB\s. The speedtest only clocks at 711 kb\s.

CAT has not limited my aircard speed, I get a constant speed of around 150 KB/s.

I went to the AIS shop today with this problem, the girl there just walked away from the cash register and wouldn't come back! So I went and bought another dtac sim.

Have you tried booting with Windows Ultimate Boot Cd? If you don't have it now, maybe someone has a copy you can use.
