  1. I've been to three cooking classes in Thailand and Lao, and this one is by far the best: www.thaihouse.co.th. The coursle leader Pip is immensely knowledgeable. Maybe I was a bit lucky when I went as we were only four people attending, but I think the classes are limited to a certain number anyways.

Be warned though, the class is not as hands on as the others I have done, each student does not get their own cooking centre. It's still one of the best learning experiences I've had in my life, on account of how much the course leader Pip loves cooking and how good she is at conveying her knowledge and taking her time to make sure everyone has a thorough understanding of the process. You really get to understand the whole process of preparing the dishes, and a good understanding of the role of the ingredients.

It should also be said that I am above average interested in cooking, even for someone who would attend a cooking class, and if you're looking for something a bit quicker and less expensive maybe a trip out to the outskirts of Bangkok in a boat is not the best choice.

  2. This is a regular on menus in restaurants. I like it best when it comes with quite a bit of that golden ginger-infused sauce. I'm at a loss on how it is made though. Water, fish sauce, sugar and soy sauce doesn't produce the same colour, and not the same taste either it seems to me. Any experts here on Gai Pad Khing, or maybe there's one in your household who wouldn't mind sharing the secret wink.png

  3. if your at the thai embassy in vientiene you have 2 options to get to udon :

tuk tuk to the border (max 200 baht even if on own 30 - 40 mins)

bus accross the bridge (20 baht)

tuk tuk to nong khai bus station (20-40 baht ?)

bus to udon city center bus station (60 baht or something but is a slow old bus)

    or

tuk tuk to vientiene bus station ,

bus to udon - recommend buying the bus ticket in advance maybe the day b4 or certinaly in the morning , it's called the vientiene express and also goes to the inner bus station in udon (120 baht ?)

the quickest way is probably tuk tuk to the border then a private car hire on the thai side to where ever you want to go in udon but it's also more expensive maybe 700 baht i once paid.

Thanks. Unfortunately didn't make it to the bus station this morning, so I'll be the latter.

  4. What is the best way to go from Vientiane to Udon after receiving the tourist visa at the embassy? Local buses from Vientiane apparently use a whopping 3 hours. Chartered taxi from Vientiane a couple of thousand baht. There is no mini-bus service.

Would it be possible to charter a vehicle to the border for a few hundred bahts, and then jump on a Thai bus on the other side? Are there transportation readily available on the thai side of the Friendship Bridge?

Any other good advice on how to get to Udon as quickly and cheaply as possible from Vientiane?

  5. One thing Newcastle United fans are not short of is drama!

Most of the decisions of late by the management have not

been in the best interest of the fans or the club.

Pushing good British players out the door to bring in

French players who I am sure will not have the same

passion or commitment ,looks like another season

on the roller coaster ride, wheres the heart pills!

    Take care Worgeordie

Never felt so good to be wrong, eh?

  6. Maybe consider a Thai mattress ( sounds like morn -ing) I find them very useful for overnighters. You can buy them all over BKK and they are very reasonable and they do come in different sizes.

Those look neat enough. Was originally looking for something elevated, any idea where I can buy a bed like this? Camping-Bed-21211972822.jpg

  7. My friend is visiting, and I need an extra bed for him. It won't be anything fancy or expensive (or comfortable...). I'm thinking about getting a camping bed, where can they be bought in Bangkok?

  8. It might help us help you if you told us where in Thailand you are staying. Then we could reccomend better. It seems that these days "Savannakhet" is the easiest hastle free but again depending where you stay would determine "hasstle free"

    Hi!

I live in Bangkok. My first choice would be Phnom Pen, if it's difficult there please recommend other places :)

  9. Travel from where and how many toruirist visas did you already have?

if you don't have any prior tourist visa in your passport, any Thai consulate in the region will do.

    Thanks,

I have two non-ed and one non-B. Last time I went to Phnom Pen they were giving people without flights out of Thailand a hard time. Can I get a tourist visa without flights out of Thailand? And what other papers do I need to present?

  10. I recently moved to Patong, Phuket, and I will stay here for four months. I am aching to play some football. Anyone with any good tips on how to get in touch with a team/group playing regularly?

  11. I am moving out of my apartment in Victory Monument area at the beginning of december, to work down south for three months. I am moving back to Bangkok at the beginning of March, and need some place to store two or three large plastic boxes (60L-100L) in the meantime. Do you guys have any ideas where I could store those for a reasonable price?

  12. "Or even moving the entire city."

How about waiting until it actualy happens. More climate change scare-mongering.

It's a bit late then isn't it? Anyways it's perfectly fine to oppose the idea of man made climate changes, but all scientists expects sea levels to be rising. The argument about who is making it rise doesn't really matter when you're knee deep in sea water in inner Bangkok.
